When we arrived the staff were hospitable and showed us up to a bright, clean and airy room which looked over the river and to the town of Ross-on-Wye. That night we had a restaurant meal which tasted and looked like picture on a plate. The staff made you feel as if you were the only people in the restaurant.We had breakfast the next morning which included freshly made bread and an array of courses.

This hotel is trying to be something more than it is in the food department. It is a little over-complex in its choice of combinations whilst lacking any real finesse.
The accomodation was extremely disappointing with ghastly saniflo plumbing that made the kind of noise that you can hardly imagine. The decor was tired and needed updating. The bed was uncomfortable.

So many one off family owned shops It's a pleasure to shop in a town with small family owned shops . There are a few chain stores and the high street is predominantly single shopfronts. The old seed merchant, the ironmongers and the family run tea shop near the ancient market hall (think it's called Pots and Pieces) all bear witness to the qualities that such businesses can maintain. No tea bag tea - delicious leaf Assam tea and wonderful homemade quiches.
