My boyfriend and I stayed here for a weekend just as a trip away from post-uni London stress. It was really nice, service was fanastic, easy to get to and from Oxford town centre and the room was lovely and clean. Breakfasts also excellent :-) Would definitely recomend.

Wonderful place to stay in Oxford

from A TripAdvisor Member
I have been going to England from the US for many years. I stayed two nights at Burlington House in early May, 2004. It was truly one of the best places that I have stayed in the UK. It was easy to reach from the highways (one of the reasons I chose it) and it is easy to get into town by bus or walking. My welcome was warm, the breakfast was outstanding (including fresh bread). The room and shower were great. On a sunny day you can sit out in the pleasant courtyard and read or plan your next excursion. I'm already looking forward to my return to Burlington House on my next trip to Oxford.

a piece of heaven in Oxford

Your taxi will drop you off at 374 Banbury Road at the beautifully kept Burlington House. What's inside will keep you coming back time and again. The interior of this bed and breakfast/hotel is lovely. It has been renovated with clean lines, beautiful colors and furniture in a simple but elegant fashion. The bathrooms are attributes to this hotel, they are attractive, very functional, very clean and have great showers. The best part of all is the service. Tony, Roy and their staff are eager to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. Lovely breakfasts with homemade breads and great omlettes. This attention to service was particularily noticed on my last morning when I needed to leave at 5:45am; they left fruit, bread and cheese and an extra bottle of water in my room because I would be traveling during breakfast. What a nice touch. This is one of the best places I have stayed in Europe.

Loved the Burlington House!

My wife and I had the pleasure of honeymooning in England this summer and we spent part of our time at the Burlington House B&B in Oxford. We are frequent guests at bed & breakfasts and can assure you this is one of the best. The house is modern, yet elegant. Our room was right-sized, comfortable, and wonderfully absent of knick-knacks and clutter common at many B&Bs. There was space to unpack and move into. The breakfasts were fabulous and I experienced the finest traditional English breakfast I'd ever had while staying there. And finally, the inn-keepers were friendly and helpful. They really wanted to make sure we had a good time not only at the Burlington House, but also while visiting their fair city. They offered several helpful suggestions about what to do and even had a handy laminated map of the town for us to use!

A Fabulous, Chic Place to Stay in Oxford!

from A TripAdvisor Member
During the first two weeks of June 2004, my husband and I decided to take a belated honeymoon (we got married last October) to the United Kingdom. Our itinerary took us from Oxford up through Scotland and back through London. I had made a point for us to stay in Bed and Breakfasts along the way so that we could really experience the country.

I actually based my choices on selecting which B&B's to stay in on this web site, as I really believe that the reviews are quite honest. As I was planning the trip, I came across the Burlington House Hotel as well as all of its positive reviews. Luckily, we secured a reservation for three nights and I can tell you that the Trip Advisor Users' reviews were right on target: This was a lovely place!

Clean, modern and affordable, Burlington House is located in Summertown, just a few minutes from Oxford's City Centre. Public buses run frequently and stop adjacent to the house every 7-10 minutes. While the outside of the house remains true to its original architecture of the 1800's, Tony and Royd, the proprietors, have refurbished and remodeled everything for the modern, discerning traveler. Immaculate bathrooms, soft linens, recessed lighting, home made cookies and large beds (a novelty in Great Britain) await you.

The breakfasts are top notch--with homemade bread, warm and fresh, made to order omlettes and excellent Greek Yogurt/granola for those who want something on the lighter side. Burlington House's own website did justice to the rooms and atmosphere here--what you see is what you get, and that's a good thing.

I would definitely recommend this B&B to anyone visiting Oxford--the combination of a gorgeous, historic university city and a great place to stay really got our vacation off to a wonderful start.

Absolutely terrific

August 27th - 30th 2004. What a wonderful time we have just had at the Burlington, from beginning to end our stay was just Exceptional!! Food, Room and Service excellent and the hospitality of our hosts Tony and Royd surpassed all expectations. The homemade bread at breakfast was the best I have ever tasted (and brought some home)!!! The Hotel is is an excellent position for the City Centre with a brilliant bus route on your doorstop. You couldn't ask for more.

I think we will find it difficult to find a hotel that matches this quality elsewhere in the UK. We will be back for more!!! If you don't book a room here you will be missing a rare treat and giving someone else the opportunity to sample this delightful B&B in your place.

Absolutely Terrific!

Burlington House even surpassed its excellent reputation from our experience there. Tony, Royd and their staff extend exemplary hospitality. Our room was delightful and the breakfast was delicious,
especially the homemade granola! We just wish for more accomodations like Burlington House.

loved Burlington House

The Burlington House in Oxford provides lovely accomodations and warm hospitality. They are off city center, but the buses stop nearby and it is quite easy to get around. Attractions are within walking distance if you don't have time constraints and can walk several miles.

The rooms are quite comfortable and attractive, but the main attraction is the hospitality. We were greeted with an offer to carry our luggage to our room and a glass of juice. The breakfasts are marvelous...and one can eat without the need to visit with other guests if that is one's wish.

The price can't be beat!

Better Than The Hotels

HAving spent one night in a 4star hotel in the centre of oxford as a precursor to my stay at the Burlingtons guesthouse I was pleasantly surprised to see that the guesthouse was the better of the two hands down.
Always helpful and attentive the hosts know all there is to know about oxford and are willing to spend time with each guest to help them with queries. Spotlessley clean and well furnished rooms give a comfortable place to relax after a hard days sightseeing. Even the shared bathroom is kept spotlessley clean.

A gem in Oxford

from TravelBearDC
We just had a wonderful stay at Burlington House. It is the best bed and breakfast we have stayed in during our travels in the U.S. and Europe and it is clearly the ideal place to stay for a visit to Oxford. Burlington House is conveniently located in the Oxford neighborhood of Summertown with very frequent buses at the corner going directly to the City Centre. The house itself is beautiful with a lovely garden and an extraordinary amount of attention and effort evident in the renovation and adaptation of the house to a stylish bed and breakfast. Just a few of the details include: power showers, very comfortable bedding, good closet space, ample lighting, refreshment tray, voicemail and internet connection, and an obvious effort at upkeep so all of Burlington House looks as if everything was freshly painted and renovated just for your arrival. The proprietors are very friendly and offered suggestions for transportation and sites that made our trip a pleasure. The breakfast was a highlight of each day and included nice touches like homemade bread and freshly-squeezed orange juice to complement your made to order breakfast. The trip was so enjoyable that we have made additional time in our next visit to England for another stay at the Burlington House. Burlington house is in a class by itself…it is a gem.

Hidden Treasure

Burlington House was our last stop before heading back to the US. It is a charming B & B with two teriffic hosts. Our room was big and the bathroom had the best shower with wonderful water pressure.
Breakfast was unusually good with fresh made bread and orange juice each day. Tony and Royd have lots of good ideas for touring and dinner. We enjoyed two great dinners while in Oxford and both were recommended by our Hosts. The house is ideally located on the bus route and minutes from the hustle of the city. This is a great spot for visiting Oxford or the surrounding area. I hope to go back again.

Summertown restaurants Our experiences in the local Summertown restaurants (Italian, Chinese and Indian) were: Food was great but service could be improved. Waiters took a long time to bring out the food and were not particularly attentive. However, they were efficient in bringing us the bill!!
