Transferred here after having to leave Royal MOat House Nottingham as was too noisy!! This hotel should be classed as five star - the rooms are very modern spacious and extremely comfy. There were three seperate phones in my standard double room, gorgeous bathroom and huge wardrobes. I loved the seperate hand held shower head as well as the normal power shower with massage setting. Would recommend this to anyone - modern hotel, very friendly staff and extremely high standards in everything.

We stayed here for the weeknd comm 22nd July. We booked a superior executive room and ended up in what would appear to be a broom cupboard. The room was tiny barely big enough for 1 person never mind 2. We didn't have time to complain as we arrived late due to a break down and had to go out almost immediately. Everyone else in our party was happy with their room as they had much better rooms than us even though we all paid the same. However but when we queried the room allocation at check out were told that "lots of people stay in these rooms and are happy with them". I find this very difficult to believe as there is not even enough room to walk past each other without squeezing past the other person. At £80 per night WITHOUT ANY BREAKFAST there are far better places to stay in Nottingham and I would not reccommend anyone stay there. They also seem to mislead you into believing breakfast is included when it isn't and then present you with a bill of £10 pp for the pleasure.

All front and no service - very slow check in - broken curtain pole in room - poorly cleaned bathroom (last occupant obviously very hairy) - noisy room with naked man knocking on my door at 2.30 a.m. ! and then a non working phone at bedside to call reception - and then a £100 charge taken from my AMEX card without authorisation which took three calls to get removed (and no apology)

Never again

Try the Royal instead

Only redeeming feature is the very expensive but very good restaurant attached (not a place for a quick snack, more of a night out)

Absolutely disgusting! My sisters and I booked the Presidential Suite at £300 for one night after a concert we had been to. The room was filthy (peanuts on the floor, pubic hair and urine on the toilet seat, battered furniture and cigarette burns). After a complaint to reception the sent the cleaning crew up to investigate. They looked like they were on a day release from "Bad Girls" and were very rude (accusing us of making the mess) and very aggressive. However, they did assure that our room would be cleaned when we were out that evening at our concert.
At 2am in the morning - the room was the same as we had left it. No-one had been in to clean and we had to try and self-assemble the fold out bed which we couldn't do - so one of us slept on the dirty peanut floor!
Totally disgusted with this hotel, the staff and the attitude. They did reduce our room rate the following morning - but that was just too little too late!

Modern and Better than the other options

I've stayed at this hotel on business four times in the last two months. It has a really modern reception area and is by far the best hotel in central Nottingham (I've tried most of the others and they are very tired - the Holiday Inn is the worst of the lot). That said, it has some housekeeping issues (see below).

During the first stay, I had a large double room on the fifth floor. It was one of two rooms off a mini corridor area (with table etc) behind a further door. It was not an executive room, so I'm not sure about the reasoning of the double door access (although I've noticed that each floor of the hotel has a few rooms which are situated in this manner). During subsequent stays, I've had rooms on the seventh, first and second floors.

Room 1
Large corner room with windows around two walls! A pest to close the curtains, which were behind a net curtain which didn't want to open. It took me about half an hour! Seemed clean. Standard size double bed. No toilet roll in the bathroom (I wasn't terribly happy about this as I didn't check in until 4am because I'd been at a meeting). Carpet looked rather grubby. The hotel has dark yellow beige carpets in all bedrooms; perhaps not the best colour for heavy foot traffic.

Room 2
No non-smoking rooms available, despite the fact that I had reserved (and had a confirmation for) a non-smoking room. Smoking room which didn't smell too bad and a standard size double bed. The carpet appeared grubby.

Room 3
A large room and a huge king size double bed (I had reserved a double). Seemed clean-ish, although dusty. Carpet pieced together in sections and different colours; parts appeared to have been replaced. I had an executive package for the first time, but I'm not sure if the room was an executive room or not. It was called a standard double on my booking form, but it was by far the best of the four rooms. The executive tray left on my bed was a bit poor/odd - it contained some fruit which had seen better days (you wouldn't touch it, to be fair), two bottles of water and two mini bottles of wine. It also included various things like flip flop slippers and shower gel, but the shower gel and other toiletries had been opened and half used - how disgusting!! I didn't use any of it.

Room 4
Double non-smoking room requested, but I received a tiny room with standard size double bed which stank of smoke. It was right beside the lift (behind a further door, like the first room - it was like entering a cupboard off the lift!). I asked for a room move and was given a twin room as they had no doubles left. Both beds were too soft - terrible! I wasn't convinced the sheets had been changed recently. The room was fine to an extent, but thick layers of dust everywhere. The carpet was filthy and there was an empty beer bottle on the window ledge. The toiletries in the bathroom were predominantly empty and there was no toilet roll. Everyone in the hotel except me seemed to be having a party, as there were doors banging all night! I had to get up at 4am to catch a flight, so I wasn't overjoyed.

All reception staff were lovely. I've seen some less-than-good reviews about them on this site and I'm surprised. Most are young, but they seemed competent. A young male trainee manager I encountered on my third stay wasn't the best and he seemed unable to answer any query without double-checking with someone else (he kept disappearing off into the rear of the reception area and then returning to answer my questions!), but he was a trainee, after all, and he was trying his best. It was apparent that he had no authority to do anything at all. Perhaps his boss/supervisor was in the loo and he'd been told to cover for ten minutes. I haven't experienced any delays at check-in or check-out, despite occasional queues.

The hotel restaurant, Chino Latino, is fabulous. It's "different", for want of a better word. The food seems to be a combination of Japenese, Thai and something else (I think they call it "fusion"). I've eaten there twice and everything was excellent, althougn not cheap. The waiting staff were young, but excellent and knowledgeable. The restaurant looks a bit like a nightclub (but, then, the reception area looks like a strange film set with all those lights and odd chairs/pieces of plane fusilage) and is black and red. The music is great, though - ambient and a bit like Man Ray or Buddha in Paris. There are two excellent Indian restaurants opposite the hotel (I think they're called Mem Sab and 5000 Miles From India or something like that); I've eaten at both several times and I'd recommend them.

Breakfast is fine. Hot buffet items and continental breakfast items.

The hotel rooms all have glass bathroom doors and glass/stainless steel bathroom sinks and fittings. Nice and modern (and better than some), but the housekeeping is lacking and they need to employ more scrupulous cleaning staff (and then there's the carpet problem to contend with...).

The hotel is very central. The main shopping area is a 5 - 7 minute walk to the rear of the hotel (go out the front door, turn left and then turn left again; I found the shops by accident!) and it is centrally located in relation to many offices/the business centre. I haven't experienced any pub noise whilst in my room(s), although colleagues who have stayed here too and have had rooms at the front of the hotel have experienced varying degrees of noise pollution. The noise I've encountered has been from my neighbours!

One thing which surprises me is that the hotel seems to be (or alleges to be) full or almost full every time I stay. How can a hotel of this size be constantly full on week nights?!

I am regularly amazed at the number of young people in the bar area around 11pm/12pm on a "school night".... does Nottingham have a massive tourist industry or is the student population attracted to the hotel bar? Someone must know the answer!

Very disappointing

I was extremely disappointed by this hotel and could barely believe its four star status.

It started with the welcome at check-in where the staff were extremely aloof, to the point of being rude. Our room was drab, with damage to the walls and well overdue for refurbishment.

The staff in the residents bar were rude and dismissive, asking to see confirmation that I was a resident in a snearing way. The prices were very expensive and certainly not supported by the ambience or service provided.

The only positive moment was at check-out when we were asked how our stay had been and the member of staff seemed genuinely concerned by our disappointment. We did receive a letter shortly after, but it felt like a standard letter they were very familiar with issuing. I will certainly not be staying here again.

Absolutely terrible!

Check in took nearly 45 minutes, and due to overbooking, we had to accept a smoking room despite having reservations to the contrary. Once in the room, we were upset to find it filthy. The carpet did not appear clean and the bathroom did not have any toilet paper. We called reception and they sent someone to clean it again. This was fine and some things can be overlooked.
However, the most upsetting part of our stay occured during the night when our "neighbours" decided to have a drunken party with about 15 guests banging on their door, and coming in/out at all hours of the night. Reception was not accomodating and refused to move us. So, we were forced to leave the hotel at 4:30 am, drive the three hours home in order to secure some sleep! What was the point of staying at the hotel at all? In hindsight, I wish we had saved our money and driven home earlier in the evening after the concert we attended was over.
We submitted a formal complaint outlining our grievances, but only ever received the standard form letter in return. Customer service? Customer care? These are simply lost concepts at this hotel.

Not A Bad Hotel At All

Read the stuff on here then decided to take the plunge.

After being quoted 165 for an executive room from the hotel, eventually paid 109 through late rooms.

Parking is adequate and is over the road from hotel in NCP car park. Usually 13 per night but discounted to guests to 6.00

Hotel is on main road at the back of the main square in Nottingham and is very handy for shops and restaurants.

On arrival, as described elsewhere, staff were not brilliant but they were ok.

Room was on 6th floor and was ok. Bed was bloody huge and very comfortable. Mostly clean but a few marks on paintwork.

As we were very hungry, we decided to take advantage of the 9.99 lunch time special in the hotel restaurant 'Chino Latino'

It is very retro in black and red and feels more like a night club but I really liked it. Nice ambient music as well.

On walking in at 2.30 (lunch is served till 3pm), we were greeted with an empty restaurant apart from the staff sitting around a table smoking.

I asked if they were still serving and after some thought, I was told they were :-))

Despite this worrying start, I can honestly say that I enjoyed myself. The food was tasty, the beer was cold, the staff were fine and the music was spot on for a Saturday afternoon. And all for 9.99.

On the evening, after a hectic day, we decided to stay at the hotel to eat and, as the restaurant was packed withe plenty of people enjoying themselves, we opted for room service.

I am always wary of these meals but again was pleasantly suprised. Tasty food well presented and on time. Topped of with a couple of bottles of wine and harry potter on the Tv, a good night was had!

All in all, the hotel was quite nice and I would definateley go again.

Music from bars on saturday night was quiet loud with windows open but bearable. I suppose thats what you get staying in the city centre.

I'd give it a go.

I recently stayed at the Park Plaza Nottingham in December, however I have only just discover tripadvisor. I am shocked to read some of the other reviews regarding unfriendly staff, I myself was checked in by a trainee receptionist but did take this into consideration as we have all once trained for a position.
As soon as we walked through the doors of the hotel I knew we had booked the right hotel. I have also stayed in other Nottingham hotels which looked tired and old fashioned in comparison.
We dined in the hotel restaurant which was again fantastic and the service was second to none. I have never eaten in a restaurant with this kind of concept but our waiter was informative & totally made the whole experience.
While in the room that was excellent on size & had one of the most comfortable beds I have ever had the pleasure of sleeping in. The bathrooms were again excellent with the glass vanity which made it very individual.

I will again be staying at Park Plaza Nottingham and will also be taking my friends along share in the best hotel in Nottingham.

Expected better

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in a so called 'Executive Room'. It was certainly not up to the standard you would expect to find of an Executive Room, as it was rather small and the furnishings were grubby. Also, it was extremely noisy - even though we were on the 10th floor we could quite easily dance to the music from the local bars without opening the windows or even having to leave our room! With the Executive package you get drinks and canapes for an hour in the evening. It was hit and miss as to whether you got the canapes, depending on whether the staff remembered to supply them. On the plus side the wine was very nice, once we actually got served. Overall the hotel is in a good location, right on the doorstep for the shops and nearby attractions.

My Husband and I stayed here for 1 night when I went to see A Perfect Circle at Rock City. The staff were really nice, polite and helpful, the hotel itself looks great and the rooms are really really nice. Really modern and fantastic bathroom we were really impressed with (lots of free toiletries too!) The location was good as it was close to the centre for shopping etc. The restaurant was good too, really modern with an oriental type feel to it.
