I vote YES to this hotel

from SA123
Strange how so many people have so many different experiences with this hotel .. It is our second stay and it is lovely .. just perfect. We do stay in the top floor suite I fear to tell you how good as it will get even more expensive than it is already and booked months in advance! .. but it is a Gem. Nottingham is a great place for a short weekend. The location is great, there are two great resturants but sorry I forget the names, the hotel told us so they will know. One is just round the corner and one we were able to walk, some may prefer a cab .. The room is a perfect warm comfy space; dressing area, work area, lounge area and bed area .. views are fantastic, even just to watch the people walk down the street .. the bells could be annoying, but you are so relaxed they are a joy to wake to and not as loud as you may fear ..

Breakfast was great .. dinner .. well it was nice, good even, but I do prefer the other two, one for entertainment and one for food .. Reception is very pleasant, some have been a little "managerial proffessional" I would prefer a little more "hello how are you", but the rest of the staff are very relaxed .. rather amusing in most cases.

One of my favorite hotels and citys (It helps!)

Could do better

from A TripAdvisor Member
Not really impressed with this place - could learn plenty from Harts hotel in Nottingham. Management seem to have an odd attitude to guests akin to student halls managers and the guest information is a little pretentious. Breakfast is over-priced and not particularly good, so after the first day we simply went to other cafes in the area. Staff were friendly and helpful. The wireless broadband was handy, if a little slow at times. Vegetarian options were terrible - only one available on room service, and not very imaginative. Brilliant location though, so if you're having trouble finding anywhere and manage to get a good deal here, it's probably worth it. There's plenty of places to eat nearby within a couple of minutes walk.

Overpriced, overheated and overrated

from Fussy
Having stayed at the LM mercifully for only one night, I cannot believe that the other reviews are of the same hotel, unless they are written by the owners?!

Our rooms were expensive- £140, and £180, the former too small to swing a cat in, let alone house two teenage girls. Ours was larger but overheated, and when we opened the window to let air in we also let ourselves in for a sleepless night as the whole of Nottingham's night life appears to take place in the road outside. No bottled water left in the room, no complimentary paper, no tea/coffee. The mini bar beggars belief- one list of prices for drinks you remember to notify before check out, the other at a premium of 50% for those management profess to identify as consumed after you leave. Given they take an imprint of a credit card on checking in this is uneccessary and I have never ever come across this anywhere in the world.

The "welcome note" from the manager in guest services book in the room is bizarre, essentially thanking guests for coming to a city with a reputation for being gun and crime-ridden. Not being aware of that, we found it slightly odd that it should be drawn to your attention as you settle in for a pleasant stay!

The reception and central stairways etc all need refurbishment- they are dark and dingy, and paint is chipped. There is no courtyard/ terrace or outside area - a real downside on a lovely sunny day. And the gym, though superb, is a good 10-15 minutes walk, crossing a major road, so only the very fit should venture there before doing their exercise regime. The breakfast was very poor- and overpriced, and served in a cramped little room - not sure if this is the Merchants restaurant, but certainly not one I would revisit.

We reflected that we could have stayed in the Oriental Bangkok for the same price- and had superb service, rooms etc. If this is the standard that British hotels are able to get away with, and that meets with praise from the consumer, it is in my view a great pity, and I will continue to take my holidays abroad.

Second visit - Restaurant to die for

from Vickster0304
This was our second visit to the lace market. The reason for our return is not so much the hotel, but the restaurant within it. It is fantastic, better than any where else that we have eaten. Our hotel room was fine, bigger than last time even though we were on a cheaper rate, the only problem was a humming sound that was constant and was not our bathroom light. My husband had no problem sleeping, but as I am 5 months pregnant I was lying awake listening to it!! A tiny complaint about an otherwise lovely place. The pub round the corner - Keanes head, is excellent for lunch and different beers. It is no smoking too!!

Great for a romantic weekend

from Zarek
This is a very pleasant hotel and I would thoroughly reccommend it for a romantic weekend.

The standard rooms are small and it can feel a bit overheated but for some reason this does not seem to matter. The mixture of excellent decoration, pleasant lighting and crisp white bed linen gives a very plush, relaxed ambience. The staff are professsional but friendly. It all works well. As to the location, this is great too. Just to the side of the central shopping area with the tram, good bars and restaurants and the shops close at hand.

Are there any negatives ? Well the breakfast is a little bit pricey and on the one occassion we decided to invest in it the service was disorganised. The bar has recently be redecorated and turned in to a very glitzy display which we are not too sure about. Along with this the drinks prices seem to have become even more exorbitant. Mind you the service is very good. We also found the bit in the hotel guide asking one " not to approach celebrities in the bar for autographs " a mite pretentious

Overall really great for a short break and sure to impress any partner as a surprise treat. Longer than a few days could be hard on the wallet and might even become claustrophobic.

Fantastic hotel!

from timt
We were part of a university reunion group and had dinner in one of their private dining rooms which was a knock out - a great evening with an excellent wine waiter. Great bar by the way if you can get in it - we couldn't get in until very late as there was a private function but there are fabulous bars just around the corner.
The bedroom was amazing - very stylish with a huge bathroom (his and hers sinks and a stand alone bath). If you want a tranquil weekend in the area go further a field to Langar Hall (another good evening) but if you want to have all that a city offers, Lace Market hotel is ideal. I have booked again for the Ashes at Trent Bridge - got the last room apparently!

Great Location

from TTK
We went to Nottingham and stayed at the Lace Market Hotel. The Hotel is in a great location - very close to the shops and nightlife. Our room, which I would describe as contemporary, was a reasonable size and very tastefully decorated. We found the staff on reception to be friendly and helpful. We did feel that there could have been tea making facilities in the room and the space in the wardrobe could have been bigger. Hotel guests have use of the Holmes Place gym, a five minutes walk away, which has to be one of the best gyms we have been to. We didn't eat in the restaurant but did have a drink in the bar which I would recommend for a pre-dinner drink.

The one thing in our view which let the hotel down was the breakfast - we had it included in the price but would have been most disappointed if we had paid for it. For £12.50 we would have expected it to have been cooked to order rather than help yourself. In addition the service was very brisk and inefficient. As there are several coffee bars and cafes close to the hotel I would advise having breakfast out.

Flawless

from A TripAdvisor Member
Having read the reviews on here about this hotel, I was very doubtful that this hotel would be anything like what friends had described it as being to me. I wanted somewhere which would serve as a perfect little get away for a romantic weekend without having to travel out of the city to have. But I thought best to trust my friends and give it a go.

I called up to make a reservation at Lace Market Hotel, more or less straight away my mind was put at ease. The gentleman who took the reservation was very helpful and answered any questions I had. He even informed me that they have complimentary access to Holmes Place which is a fantastic gym only a few minutes walk away. It pleased my girlfriend no-end. She was able to laze around in the Sauna while I went into the gym, perfect.

Upon arriving at the hotel I was very surprised to find the area in which the hotel is located in to be such an adorable location. There was a lovely church right next to it which i'm sure some rooms must get an amazing view of.
You wouldn't believe you were in a city centre hotel, yet your barely a minutes walking distance from the lively town centre and fantastic shops.
The room had very slight street noise, and I mean very slight. But you are staying in the city centre so you have to expect some level of noise.

I could go on for ages about how perfect this hotel was, but afraid it may take up too much space. In short the room was amazing. The bathroom was huge, there was a bath big enough for two to soak in as well as a huge walk in shower. As for the bed, it was one of the most comfortable i've ever slept in.

We had planned to dine out of the hotel, but after having a look at the menu for Merchants we changed our minds and managed to be lucky enough to get a table due to a cancellation. I would think you normally need to book well in advance because when dining in Merchants it looked fully booked to us. Even though busy it still managed to stay intimate. The food was amazing. Ill be going back again.

After dinner we were told about Saint which is a members only cocktail bar but residents get access as long as its not full of people already. The cocktails in there were the best I have ever tasted ANYWHERE. The barman was very friendly and helped us to choose from the vast choice of cocktails.

As for the staff at this hotel - from the gentleman who took the reservation all the way through to the young lady checking us out on Sunday morning were very polite and nothing was too much for them. You never felt like they didn't want to help. Very helpful and extremely friendly.

I have stayed at a few hotels in Nottingham and would recommend this one over any other. No question.

It was only a shame to read a few bad comments on here about the hotel.
I couldn't see any reason to fault Lace Market Hotel, id just put the bad comments down to the kind of people who "have to complain about something", or even if people have had a bad experience I suppose you should also remember that mistakes do happen, rather than believe its the way things always are.

In reference to some comments I have read - in my experience:-
1) Staff were anything but pretentious.
2) Yes mini bar was pricey, but what hotel mini bar isn't?
3)The hotel was flawless.

Ill be coming back.

Watch out for your bill!

from bps-uk
A week after staying ... a bill for $10 for 3 mini bar items arrives .... none of which I consumed. I don't know whether the staff were incompetent in stocking or counting it afterwards, but it's a nice way to find yourself out of pocket as a customer and in pocket as a hotelier!

OK .... but ....

from A TripAdvisor Member
Brief stay .. just somewhere to throw my head for night's kip. Nice enough room ... small .. 'bijou' doesn't begin to describe it! Apparently it could accommodate 2 small adults 'at a push' ... only if you lay on top of each other I think. Good night's sleep, pretty quiet considering I was just outside the lift. No tea and coffee in the room .. that's a pain in the backside for the traveller arriving late at night ... but plenty of high-priced mini-bar products available. Slightly over-impressed by itself with usefulness sacrificed for style in the shower-room in particular... no doubt meant to appeal to a different type of traveller who goes for all that...

Top Local Tips for Nottingham

Chain restaurant with style We walked from teh Lace Market Hotel to a branch of CAFE ROUGE. It was one of the nicest branches we have ever visited. Friendly and affable service with "spot on" grub - especially the green beans and veg which were just right.... with bite! Plus an easy on the "palate and purse" wine list.

Car Parking Non of nottingham hotels have free on site parking, some of the bigger hotels offer valet parking.

Have a good map Ensure you have a good map of Nottingham as it's extremely difficult to drive around wtihout a good map.
