We had booked into this hotel after seeing it's website that was most impressive. On arrival, we were met with a hotel that was shabby, messy, run-down and tired. A brusqe member of staff handed us our key, and we proceeded to our room. Everywhere we looked there was mess, old vacum cleaners, paint rollers, etc, and the corridor and hallway was in need of some tlc. Our room was clean,but the bed was uncomfy and the windows tatty. We decided not to eat in, but returned later for a drink. The bar was perhaps the most rundown part of the hotel, smelt of smoke and with a poor selection of drinks. The tables and chairs were chipped and scuffed and there were overflowing ashtrays. We decided there and then that we would not be staying a second night. To sum up,a lovely old building that needs a hell of alot of money spending on it to bring it up to anything near acceptable, I am amazed it has two stars,and feel that is only because of it's menu.
