Unrivalled Luxury

From arrival at the Vineyard, you quickly realise that this is a very different hotel. We were met at the door by the concierge who whisked us through reception, taking our bags and escorting us directly to our room. There was none of the usual swiping of credit cards and shenanigans in reception. The priority was to get you installed and into the spa asap. Very refreshing!

We booked a standard room, which was a suite by the standards of any other hotel. We had a huge bathroom with an extensive range of toiletries from Molton Brown, fluffy robes, slippers and huge towels. The bedroom had a "lounge" type area, a dressing room/walk in closet and a very comfortable bed. The complimentary mini bar of soft drinks was a nice extra.

The hotel includes spa facilities. While many hotels state that they have a spa, this tends to be a disappointing effort with a tiny pool and jacuzzi (if you're lucky!). The Vineyard spa was extensive - with a large swimming pool, invigorating jacuzzi, modern gym, and treatment rooms. Best of all, for a lot of the time during our stay, it felt as if we had the whole place to ourselves.

The restaurant adjoining the hotel is Michelin starred, and the service was fantastic, starting on our arrival where our starter orders were taken as we enjoyed a pre-dinner drink. The food was delicious, and the service throughout the meal was very attentive. (Breakfast the following morning was pretty special, too!)

The Vineyard is a fantastic "away-from-it-all" location within easy driving distance of London, and left us feeling relaxed and refreshed for days afterwards!

Wow! What an experience, this has got to be the best hotel in terms of service, quality and gourmet delights we've ever experienced in the UK. The food was something special and as for the wine list, outstanding although I would like to know who could afford or want to pay for a Californian red at £2500 !! The service was impecable, never wanted for anything and the spa facilities were great, a nice touch being able to take your wine in with you! An outstanding hotel, worth every penny for a special occasion, I would definitely recommend, especially as a winter retreat when the open fires only add to the relaxed ambiance of the whole hotel. Top notch.

Fantastic food

This hotel is a must for lovers of good food.It is absolutely fantastic.I have eaten in some top restaurants and I rate this in the top 5. If anyone has been here and can recommend others in a similar category please let me know.Bon appetite!

Loved it

The Vineyard is a fairly modern building which surrounds an older core. The decor is lovely and tasteful. My Husband and I stayed here for a much needed romantic out of town break and have decided to go back in the summer. I am really surprised by some of the reviews on this site. Our experience was completely different. I can only assume that the Vineyard took all of the complaints regarding its staff to heart and made immediate improvements. In our case the staff were attentive and pleasant. As it was raining a member of staff sheltered me with an umbrella as we arrived by Taxi. The receptionist took us to our suite personally, which was spacious and confortable.

There were one or two occasions when we did not recieve what we'd asked for, like our request of "no ice" in the Baileys which duly arrived with ice. "Hot milk please" for the coffee and it arrived cold. But these minute problems were solved quickly with an apology and a smile. I'm not really interestd in being served by robots with no personality anyway. I have to disagree with one reviewer who intimated that the staff were lazy. This was not the case, but I do believe the majority to be young and lacking in experience.

The food and wine were fabulous. I'm still dreaming of the cod raviolli which was amazing. Come here for dinner if for nothing else.

I had a wonderful massage in the spa and my husband and I enjoyed the pool which we mostly had to ourselves. I did not want to leave. I have returned to London relaxed and refreshed. The overall experience was as close to perfection as humanly possible. It's pricey but you're worth it.

An enjoyable weekend with friends.
The service on arrival was attentive and personal with reception maintaining a high standard throughout our stay.
The highlight was the Restaurant which fully deserves its Michelin laurels. Service may not be to the liking of those looking for five star high dining gravitas but I loved it with witty waiters and mistakes excused with a smile and a joke. This added to rather than detracted from the experience.
The Pool area is excellent; a good place to read the Morning papers before a round of Golf.
The room was acceptable and the staff friendly and down to earth.
Recommended unless you are a Hotel snob!

Wonderful Hotel

We have just had the most wonderful weekend at The Vinyard, everything about it was perfect, the staff were attentive and friendly and couldn't do enough for us, we were made to feel very special.

We arrived in time to enjoy a delicious late lunch in the Spa and a relaxing afternoon by the pool, trying out the steam room and sauna, there were plenty of big fluffy towels and beds to lie on and even though there were quite a few guest availing themselves of the facilities it was very peaceful.

Our room was lovely, very comfortable and tastefully decorated with a balcony overlooking the terrace and pool , we could have stayed there all evening but dinner was what we had come for, and not to be missed, and as it turned out the highlight of the whole weekend.

From being greeted by the Manager as we arrived for pre dinner drinks to being shown one of the fabulous wine cellars by the sommelier who then adviced us on the choice of a delicious wine to accompany the most magical flavours in food we have ever tasted, it was an unforgettable experience and one we would wholeheartedly reccomend.

My husband and i have just returned from a 2 days break at the Vineyard.
what a fantastic place. Food, wine and service were just superb, the best we've experienced in our traveling in the uk and abroad.
Our bedroom had the most fantastic bathroom. the staff were great, friendly and very courteous. i can't wait to find an excuse to go back

Poor Customer Service - Change the Staff!

This is a copy of the email sent to the manager on our return from an overnight stay in this 'hotel'.

Initially, we were impressed by your reception staff, when the receptionist walked us to our room and explained the features. We were very pleased with the room and the amenities offered within.

However, our disappointment began when we decided to avail of the use of the Spa. We were looking forward to relaxing in this area. Again, initially a member of staff greeted us and provided robes and towels for us. She stated that if we had any questions to just ask.

Following a swim we decided to use the Sauna, but found it was not working. No signs were in place stating that it was out of order. We went to look for the staff member but she was no where to be found. Eventually another member of staff walked in and we told him about the sauna (to be honest he seemed disinterested or didn't understand what we said) and we also ordered a tea and coffee.

About 30 minutes (and no, I'm not exaggerating) later another member of staff eventually arrived with the Tea and Coffee.

Finally another member of staff arrived and we pointed out to him the fault in the sauna. He went down and said that the timer had re-set and that he had fixed it. He stated it would take about 10 mins to warm up. After 20 mins I went down to the sauna, it was still cold - not even slightly warm. At this stage, we gave up our Spa 'experience' - hoping that this was just 'one of those things'.

We had pre-booked dinner for 21:30 and had it confirmed via email and then via the receptionist on our arrival. We duly turned up at 21:20 and were escorted to the bar area. We waited for some time for someone to come and take our order for drinks. The waitress asked us if we were sure we had a reservation for dinner. When we answered that we did she said that she would check on it and come back. She never came back. The drinks arrived - mine was incorrect and had to be changed - and we asked the waiter who brought them whether there was a problem with our reservation and why the other waitress had not returned. He stated that he would check straight away and return. He did not return. Next we had another waiter turn up with menus. We asked him if there had been a problem with the reservation and he immediately said no. It was another 20 minutes before he returned to take our order. At this stage we'd finished our drinks yet there was no sign of anyone coming to us to ask us if we'd like another drink.

Eventually another waiter (it may even have been the Maitre'D) arrived to bring us to our table. There was no apology for the delay which was at least 45 minutes. We had to bring our disappointment to his attention. He did state that he would do everything he could to make our dining experience exceptional. It almost goes without saying that he did not approach us again during or after the meal.

We did have a very nice waiter and the Semillon was very friendly and helpful. The food was good and the environment very pleasant.

This morning (Sunday) we went down for breakfast at around 9:45. The staff seemed disinterested and despite requesting butter for our table it took two different staff to eventually get it.

When we were checking out we expressed out disappointment to the receptionists and they simply asked if we'd like to speak to the Manager. They didn't particularly seem surprised or concerned about our experience.

Overall we felt that we weren't welcome by the staff - almost that we weren't good enough to be there. We spent over £400 in your hotel, hoping for an experience to remember both from the environment, facilities, staff and food. It was an experience to forget and we certainly could not or would not recommend a stay to our friends. We feel that we would have been better off going to a Hotel chain where we would have had a better level of service.

I would strongly recommend that you discuss our complaint with your staff and that you use this opportunity to resolve what comes across as disinterest and very bad customer service from your staff. It is the customers that essentially pay their wages and they should be there to ensure that the customers stay is pleasant and that their requests are catered for. Based on our experience we feel that the Vineyard is simply trading on its Michelin Star and has let the standards of the hotel / restaurant service slip to a level that really is not acceptable. To have a stay ruined by poor service and lack of understanding of the customers need is shoddy and has spoiled a stay we were looking forward to for a long time.

I had, as part of my pre-booking looked at several reviews about your hotel. Some had mentioned poor service from staff, but I was willing to ignore them as I was sure that a 5 star hotel could not be as bad as some of the reviews. If only I'd taken their advice not to go! I shall be adding my review of the hotel to theirs and hope that this will help others that might be looking to stay in the area.

A Nice Hotel Let Down by the Staff

We stayed here last Saturday night, a birthday treat organised by my lovely wife. The hotel itself is pleasant enough, if a bit ugly from the outside. The interior is attractive (although all the awards on the wall were a bit over the top) and our room, a suite, was large and comfortable.

The spa was as you'd expect. I was a bit disappointed that there weren't any water cups in the gym, which I didn't find out til after my work out!

The food and wine was also very nice. So far so good...and then you take the staff into account.

You don't actually see many staff at The Vineyard. In many hotels that is a good thing as it means you are being left in peace. Here it was simply down to the fact that there aren't very many and those that are there tend to hide in case they have to do any work.

When we arrived at the spa there was a girl on reception but she was also there to tidy up after the guests. Therefore wet towels were strategically placed all around the pool. The same could be said of the discarded tea trays in the conservatory.

It took us 30 minutes to be served a drink on the terrace before dinner. We then had to ask for the menu, then ask for our order to be taken and then ask to be seated. All in all, our pre dinner drink lasted 75 minutes, which is quite a long time for half a lager. During this time a number of waiting staff were huddled together by the bar talking about....well, certainly not the customers or work!

When we checked out it was throwing it down with rain. No one offered any help with the bags or one of the umbrellas that were outside the front door so we got soaked. Once again, there were a number of staff grouped together apparently killing time and waiting for the wretched guests to leave.

Basically this is a nice hotel that has decided it has "made it" and no longer needs to invest in good or many staff. They know that people will stay there on reputation alone, although I doubt many actually go back.

If you want a classy night away, go to Cliveden. The rooms may be smaller but the spa is better and the staff are superb.

The Vineyard was not worth the £600 it cost us.

Impeccable

My husband and I stayed at the Vineyard as part of our honeymoon earlier this month and I can only say that it was fantastic. We stayed in an Atrium suite which was beautifully decorated with a hugely comfortable bed and a bath big enough for two as well as a separate shower and great Molten Brown smellies.

The food was wonderful and the sommelier couldn't have been more helpful (with a two volume wine list, you do need some guidance) recommending a number of delicious wines for us to try. The service was impeccable - the staff really seem to take a pride in providing excellent service to guests without seeming fawning or intrusive.

Nobody else staying seemed interested in the spa, so we had all the facilities to ourselves for a couple of hours which was great. Although the spa could do with a bit of tlc in a couple of places (a few tiles missing around the pool, a bit of peeling paint by the jacuzzi), it's not at all bad and worth a visit, particularly when no-one else is using it.

Overall, well worth what we paid (we got a winter deal which was very good value) and we'd love to go back again.
