please dont read the previous reviews, it is now under new ownership,as of august 2009 refurbed rooms, best showers in marlborough, (you dont want to get out) all brand new bath rooms, great rates, some of the best food i've tasted, if you like fish this is the place, also great steaks, i had the biggest 't' bone i've ever had, the landlord is from jersey so knows a thing or two about fish, would recommend it to anyone, own car park which is a plus in marlborough
The worst hotel we have ever stayed in

A bad first impression as the stair carpet on the way to our room didn't look as if it had been vacuumed for a year and it just got worse and worse. The room was newly decorated and bed linen clean but again not vacuumed for some time - balls of fluff everywhere, remains of a previous occupant's takeaway in the wardrobe along with one broken coat hanger. No curtain but at least a cover on the armchair that we could rig up. But this was covering a filthy chair with a broken leg. The bathroom was across the corridor and again filthy, all surfaces were dirty and there was a tide mark around the bath. I couldn't find anyone to complain to and had to go to Waitrose to buy cleaner and a sponge before we could use it. Our neighbours' loo had skid marks when they arrived!
On the plus side breakfast was good. We complained about the lack of cleanliness and the owner just blamed the new cleaning staff.

Don't stay here unless you want to be conned! My wife booked this accommodation over the telephone the night before and was asked to leave credit card details. When I arrived I was told that I would have to pay in cash, as the credit card machine was broken. I duly paid £90 up front in cash for one night bed & breakfast for two people. The place was a bit grotty to say the least, dirty blinds, noisy macerator toilets and I couldn't get a picture on the T.V. The following morning I waited with my colleague for breakfast but the place was deserted. I tried telephoning but got no answer. My colleague and myself then had to do a days work without any breakfast. I later received a telephone call from Mrs Cook with the excuse that she had to visit her son's school in the middle of the night. She promised to send a refund. Despite numerous telephone calls,a letter and email, I am still waiting 6 weeks later.
Truely dreadful

This is not a hotel. It's a tatty bar with dirty rooms upstairs and an all pervading smell of stale beer and sick. There were sockets hanging off the wall in the dining room, no lightbulbs in the hallways and a sign on the bannister saying "don't touch dangerous". I'm not sure what appealed most about our room; the peeling wallpaper, the stained carpet, the dirty bath, the badly fitted aluminium floor effect in the bathroom... We were woken by a combination of the noise outside, the sun streaming through the broken steel blinds and the impressive hydraulic sound that hotel's toilets made following every flush. I approached the handheld shower with some caution and was not disappointed. After running the taps to clean the bath out, the shower plunger came away in my hand making the taps spurt like a whale. Breakfast is available between 8:30 and 9 only, although ours didn't arrive till 10. Breakfast was nice though hence the 2 marks. I wouldn't stay again.
A lively place!

My partner and I booked for 2 nights during a recent break, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, rooms were clean and comfortable and the breakfast was very good. Definitely a good place to stay if you enjoy a 'livelier' place, would be a bit difficult if we had young children though.
Don't stay here

I had booked a night for my husband and I and we arrived in the afternoon to find a rather grubby and unkempt and thoroughly uninviting excuse for a hotel. We checked in and gingerly navigated the grotty staircase and hallway to be shown to our room. Not ensuite, even though the bathroom was our own, it wasn't in the room, not great and we should have been told this beforehand. Room was passable, clean and newly painted, but the bathroom smelled of urine. We went down for our breakfast the next morning at 9.30am, which is what time we had indicated.. to find a body asleep and snoring loudly on the couch surrounded by bottles... we went upstairs to change and leave and when we came down again the chef had made an appearance (1 hour later) and offered us breakfast which we politely declined... I indicated that I was surprised to find someone sleeping on the couch in the dining room at breakfast time and asked to see the manager. Apparently that was the manager asleep on the couch... say no more, it explained the whole thing and we retreated with dignity intact, if not a full wallet... had no desire to eat in that place and will NEVER be returning. Please don't stay there as it's awful. There are lots of other really lovely places nearby.
What a disappointment

This hotel was really disappointing - our tv didn't work, wallpaper falling off the walls, our door didn't lock from inside and there was 1 curtain for the window and a fairly battered blind. For £65 this hotel is definitely not worth it.

Stayed here for one night at very last minute with my wife. Request for champers and roses to be in the room upon arrival were met without any problems, we had a great weekend in Marlborough.
Only downside to the hotel was it lacked a curtain rail in the bedroom hence no curtain could be drawn across the window, however it did not spoil the weekend as a whole. Remarkable morning breakfast was offered. Price may be a little too high based upon the rooms . .
Would recommend Cafe Uno as the place to eat in town.

I book this hotel after speaking to the landlady and advised that we had an 8 month old son, upon arrival the rooms looked in need of a refurb not like the website had advertised. THEN TO OUR HORROR ON THE FRIDAY EVENING A FULL SCALE RAVE BROKE OUT IN THE BAR AREA, DIRECTLY UNDER OUR ROOM - NEEDLESS TO SAY THAT WE LEFT CANCELLED OUR BOOKING AND DEMANDED A FULL REFUND - The Manager Paul was very helpfull and understood, however the landlady did not appear to care less!!!!!
Very Friendly

Staff are very friendly, but the place is a little bit chaotic. Could not find room keys. The rooms are clean and comfortable but the prices are far to high. There is a lively bar, but the restaurant does not do food in the evenings. Breakfasts are very good.
