Arrived 11pm,having telephoned earlier to warn of late arrival; found hotel overbooked HOWEVER reception staff very helpful and booked us in for the night at the 4 star Renaissance Hotel next door - ok by me! Paid for by Travelodge. Absolutely lovely hotel. Free breakfast also at Travelodge next morning, good breakfast though rooms still not ready. Going to football so went shopping up town returning to find only one room available (was party of 4, 2 rooms booked.) Thought if we pushed it we could get another night at the Renaissance Hotel but no such luck, somehow they found a second room and we checked in. What a contrast! Cheap & not that cheerful BUT the bed was clean & comfy, tea & coffee available, clean towels but no frills as explained in the literature. Got exactly what we paid for and free breakfast both mornings. Can't fault the reception staff who were always friendly & helpful

Despite booking months in advance and friends booking subsequently being in decent rooms,I was allocated a basement dungeon.Downstairs, past hammering workmen and the smell of paint, opened the door to stygian darkness and the non working main light.Switched on the bathroom light to find diry, wet towels in bath, hair and scum in washbasin, unemptied sanitary bin and-yuck-an unflushed loo. Opened the windows in bedroom to get rid of smell and found unmade bed with dubious stained sheets, overflowing waste bin and dirty cups. While the habits of the previous occupant-including cigarette ends in a non smoking hotel--are not the fault of the management,a clean room is not too much to ask.The light patches on the wall(still with hooks in)showed just how murky the room itself was.I politely told reception who said there were no other rooms available-fair enough,it's a busy hotel-but if I temporarily vacated the room,it would be cleaned.Three hours later, after wandering around Manchester,I returned to find everything exactly the same.Different receptionist, who didn't understand English, however managed to say she knew nothing about it,there were no cleaners available and I could cancel my reservation. At 8pm,this was not an option as I was tired from travelling and had an appointment at 9pm.It took an exhausting half hour before she realised I was not going to go and someone was eventually sent to give my room a lick and polish. Next morning,no apology, nothing.

Historical Traveller Reviews of Travelodge Manchester Central Hotel

excellent location

from LondonGoer
My sister and I stayed one night in this hotel and felt it was a very good value.
Pros:The room was spacious. The bed was very comfortable. Everything need to make coffee and tea was in the room and also in the lobby. The location of the hotel is directly to the side of the huge Arndale shopping center.

The cons: No one was allowed to check in before 3pm. This resulted in lengthy lines from 3pm.
There is wireless in the hotel but it is horrendously expensive. Go to the Easy Internet cafe right down the street if you need it.
The man who was behind the desk when we fist arrived was unpleasant and when I asked if we could leave our bags and come back at 3pm he told us it would be £3 PER bag.

Fortunately we never saw him again and the three other people we dealt with were all very nice.
When we checked out and needed to leave bags again for several hours we were charged £3 total for both bags, not per bag.
We definately expect to stay here again.

Great Location

from Bladewoman
First impressions, excellant location, bit dowdy looking from the outside. Arrived at 1pm and advised we couldn't check in until 3pm. Left our overnight bag behind reception charged 3 pounds for the privilage, not given a ticket so anyone could have claimed the bag. The main shopping precinct is only a 5 min walk so perfect location for christmas bargains. Arrived back at the hotel at 5pm approx, given our room number and asked if required breakfast at a further cost of 6.95. The hotel does have a bar which we were advised closed at 0100. Our room was basic but clean, inc tea and coffee making facilities but not toiletries and the bath is great if your under 5ft. We went out to see Paul Weller at the Apollo (Very Good) only a 10 min taxi from the hotel. Decided to go straight back to the hotel bar after the gig as pretty tired. We arrived back at 1115 to be told the bar had closed, only refreshments available out of the vending machines. So early night for us. To end on a good note though the beds and pillows are extremely comfy so a great night sleep had by all and the late check out time of 12 noon is a great,

book a different hotel NOW!

from trippyskippy
This was one of the worst night's sleep I've ever had. There was a terrible atmosphere about the place, lots of drunken men in the very long corridors. Lots of security doors. I was frightened as a solo woman traveller to be so far from reception, I'd been put right at the end of the corridor. It was also incredibly noisy. Breakfast was ok but I will never go there again.

Incredible value!

from kuss
We (3 ladies on a shopping trip) paid £26 for our room at this hotel. There was no bedding, towels, cup etc for the 3rd person in the room but this was swiftly and efficiently dealt with by reception. The room was large, clean and could not be faulted.
An absolute bargain.

amazing value

from grahamzxy
let us get some things cleared up, this hotel is excellent value, excellent location, excellent beds, hot water.

the previous reviewer must have expected the ritz carlton or radisson SAS.

£26 booked in advance for a large non smoking room, breakfast £6.95 is very fair, that makes it £39.90 inc breakfast for a couple. Incredible value this is 2006 not 1986.....

well done travelodge, keep up the good work, we arent all on business expenses and that is why people snap up these greatr room deals.

well pleased

We stayed in the Travelodge central recently as we were going to a gig at the MEN Arena. When we first arrived the Hotel car park was full so we had to park in the NCP car park next door at a cost of £13 per night, and the hotel does not validate your parking!!
Then we discovered the room that i'd booked via there automated booking service was not, as requested, a family room but a double room. When we got to the room (the lifts in the hotel were ancient and very slow), with no help from reception staff - who did not as is usual in Hotels advise us of what floor our room was on etc etc. We discovered there was no soap, towels, milk..... I had to return to reception and ask for them, where they bundled them in to my arms and sent me on my way! When trying to contact reception from the room there was no connecting number on the phone.

I would not advise you choose this hotel. It is very near the Arena, but at £50 per night i would have expected a much more welcoming and catered for stay.

First class location, all round good lodgings!

from SimoneC
Stayed here for 3 nights from April 23rd. Wanted close location to MEN Arena to see Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds and Hilary Duff concerts. Basically couldn't have chosen better accomodation! Booked online back in Feb when I booked the concerts. My main concern was location since I had never been to Manchester so prefered to be within walking distance of MEN Arena. Travelodge is located 2 mins walk away from the Arena, and down the road from Mancheser Arndale Centre. Staff at Travelodge are very helpful. The room (A family room) that I paid STG45 per night per room, was clean and big. Had king size bed, double sofa bed, and ample space to move around. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for inexpensive, safe, clean and well located accomodation.
I shall be keeping a keen eye on up coming concerts at the Arena and book my accomodation with Travelodge Manchester Central for sure!

Perfect Central Location - Superb Rates and Rooms

from Amandamanx
Stayed here April 25th 2006 for Hilary Duff Concert at the MEN Arena. I had wanted accomodation within walking distance of the Arena, and the Travelodge was just perfect (about a five - 8 mins walk). From the outside it looks like a horrible 1970's apartment block, but, the accomodation, rates, staff and breakfast, tick all the right boxes for me and my two girls. I paid £26.00 for a family room, the room was huge with a double bed and two single pullout/single beds for the girls. Full bathroom and tv, tea and coffee making facilities etc. There is a lovely bar and reception area. The staff at the Travelodge were incredibly helpful and friendly. We opted for the breakfast which is only £6.95 for all you can eat buffet style (hot and cold) and children 10 and under eat free! incredible value. The only possible down side I can think to say about this travelodge is that you can hear road noise (we were on the 5th floor and there is 7 floors) we had a room overlooking the river to the side of the hotel, and you could hear traffic going by, but we did manage a descent nights sleep anyways. If you are looking for a convenient stay near the MEN Arena and Arndale etc., then at £26.00 a night you can't beat this place, will definately be back on my next concert trip!

great stay

from lulu026
My partner and I spent 4 nights in travelodge in manchester central recently and i have to say that i really liked and enjoyed my stay. We had a quite large double room with an ensuite bathroom, television, tea making facilities and a sofa. We had everything we needed and it was only £45 a night. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from the town centre, lots of shopping to do and lots of places to see! I found the staff friendly and helpful and would recommend it to anyone!

Great location, good value!!

from louisebaker123
Stayed here in jan 2006 and paid £45 for the room, excellent location near the arndale centre and the shops/restaurants. parking is underneath and is free, if that is full next door is the ncp and costs £11 per 24 hours. The rooms were fine and clean, tea and coffee, plenty of towels, heating and colour tv. Would stay again for the location!! Would also recommend the travel inn as thats also a good location.
