Great time

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband, daughter and I stayed at this hotel from Friday until Sunday and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Although we arrived much earlier than normal check-in time, we were greeted warmly by the reception staff and check-in was a quick and painless experience. The receptionist was extremely pleasant and helpful, and later in our stay she gave us advice about places to visit, public transport, and provided maps etc.
Our room was spacious - 2 double beds and a seating area with sofa - and was perfectly clean and tidy.
We went to Manchester for a Christmas shopping weekend, and found the crowded shops and streets overwhelming. It was a relief to return to the Renaissance and our room on the 8th floor whcih was very quiet, and with an interesting view of the city rooftops.
We tried dinner in Robbie's restaurant which we enjoyed, especially the steak, and breakfast too was well presented and plentiful.
All in all, a very pleasant hotel with great staff.

Just OK!

Overall this hotel is passable. The rooms are very large, two double beds, sofa etc but it is pretty average and the staff do not have the best manners! If you are travelling on business or someone else is paying then go for it, otherwise choose the Lowry or the Radisson.

Good Hotel, Great Location

from SJE1000
Booked a twin deluxe room for one night for Saturday 5th November 2005 and was pleasantly surprised, as I am hard to please when it comes to hotels! The room was very large, containing two double beds, a separate seating area with sofa and coffee table and a nicely sized bathroom. The decor and condition of the room was really good, and was very clean.

It's ideal if you are arriving in a car, as its right next to an NCP, of which the hotel has an allocated area for guest parking. There is also a lift from the car park straight to the hotel lobby, great if you've got heavy luggage with you. The car park cost us about £10 for 24 hours parking, which I didn't think was too bad.

The view from our room was of Harvey Nichols and the Manchester Wheel, which is a bit like the London Eye, but on a smaller scale. Considering the hotel appeared full and very busy, it was exceptionally quiet during the night.

The hotel location is excellent, situated right in the heart of the city centre, by all the main shops and the Arndale Centre.

The staff were very helpful and check-in was fast and efficient, as was the checking out process.

Breakfast was served in Robbie's restaurant. Self service buffet type breakfast, with full cooked 'eat as much as you want' english breakfast. The food was fine, although it was a bit chaotic, due to the hotel being very busy.

Overall, I would recommend this hotel. It's not one of the top hotel's in Manchester or one of the exclusive one's, but for the price paid, it's a great place to stay.

Best rooms in Manchester no doubt

from Nick7p
I've stayed in most hotels in Manchester and the Renaissance have the best rooms by far try to get roomsabove the 11th rooms with an odd number , views are better . The staff are exceptional with nothing too muuch trouble . Lobby and bar is average and anybody staying are well advised to eat out and sample the many wonderful varied places you can eat much chealer and better value for money in city centre

Only saved by the awesome staff!

The hotel is well overdue for a major overhaul.

The rooms, while large like all of the renaissance hotels we have stayed in, looked like they dated from the 80's. There was also an issue with the amount of noise from the street that come through the windows.

On the other hand the view over the cathedral from our room was quite nice.

We were also disappointed by the lobby and rather average entrance area. Could have done with a good clean.

Breakfast was excellent though :) As much grease as you could spoon on to your plate AND they even had black pudding!!!

The staff were out of this world. Our daughter lost a tooth the night of our arrival and in the morning we had forgotten to put some money under her pillow (abusive parents eh!) so we asked one of the staff if they would write a short note (and gave her a couple pounds) and put it under her pillow while we were out to breakfast. The note wasnt so much a note but a short story! :)

We cant say enough about the staff. They really are the saving grace (as well as breakfast) of an otherwise over priced hotel.

Would we stay here We will stay at one of the other higher classed marriots on our next visit to Manchester.

what a disapPointment!

Great location, good hotel

I stayed in the Renaissance over a long period for work related reasons. The place almost became a second home.

Rooms were nice (especially the suites), only complaint is they can get a little hot in deep summer periods

Staff was always great and overall I would go back in a second

Only downpoint was no gym in the hotel but the very helpful staff will give you a pass for a local gym nearby

Service was Amazing...

I stayed in the Renaissance Hotel with my mother and 7 year old daughter. From the moment that we got out of our car, and the porter arrived out to assist us with our luggage and valet park our car we knew that we had picked the right hotel. The Porter, Gary, was of great assistance throughout our stay, providing excellent directions and help. The room was spacious and luxurious. Bath Robes and slippers were provided. The hotel directory made it clear that staff be happy to help with any request. The phone had one button which was marked "Delighted to Serve". When you pressed the button, a helpful voice, greeted you by name and asked what they could do for you. Its small things like this, that make you feel special.

We ate in the restaurant both nights as my daughter was too tired to hit town, and on the first night we ate in Robbies Restaurant. The food was absolutley superb. I had a Rack of Lamb served with Almonds. For once I could appreciate how a chef had put a lot of thought into textures and flavours and how they mixed to make a really interesting meal. The waitress and other staff made my daughter feel special also.

The second night we ordered room service. My ONLY complaint and to be honest, it is a minor one, is that I ordered a chicken curry from the children's menu, I asked the receptionist whether it was spicy, she said it wasn't and unfortunately, she must not have tasted it that night, because it was too spicy even for me!!!

I will most definitly return to the Renaissance. I would highly recommend this hotel, it is in the centre of the city and ideal for shopping.

Brilliant hotel

from Georgie173
Stayed here for two night while on a ‘shop till you drop’ weekend in Manchester. Ideal location with all of the shops and restaurants on your door step. Easy to find too when driving even though in the centre of Manchester. Valet parking on arrival, which was wonderful after a three hour drive.

Bedroom very spacious with its own seating area and two queen sized beds which were comfortable. Breakfast was extremely good, hot, freshly cooked, plentiful and well presented. On arrival after first days 8hr trek around shops, got back to find no tea bags in the bedroom. Rang down to room service and almost instantly someone turned up to replenish the stocks. My aching feet were revived!

Staff couldn’t have been more helpful. All were courteous and at hand to deal with all enquiries. On leaving, our car was delivered back to the front of the hotel, packed with our bags and then they proceeded to highlight on a map our best route out of Manchester for the time of day.

I’d recommend this hotel to everyone.

Loved the staff and the hotel!

Man, what a great stay! We used Manchester as a home base, and did a few day trips from there. The hotel is ideally located to restaurants, shops, and local architecture, buses and rail stations. All within walking distance. The rooms were spacious and very clean. A big contrast to our stay in London. Each room had a sitting room, two queen beds, and a very large, clean bathroom. I loved the heavy down comforter on each bed. The beds were large and comfortable. But... the friendly, helpful staff made this hotel, and our stay, EXCEPTIONABLE. Whatever we needed/wanted, the staff made it happen. The concierge went beyond the helpful --- he made sure we got what we asked for, completely understood directions, and gave us lots of suggestions for trips, dining, etc. The included breakfast in the room price is way worth it. Yummy! Fresh, and all that these hungry American tourists could have wanted. What a great city, and this hotel reflects its welcoming feel. Made us each feel very special. Highly recommend.
