Historical Traveller Reviews of Radisson SAS Hotel Manchester Airport

ok but a bit shabby for the price

from kr203040
Stayed at the Radisson in July before a flight to new York the next day.
The room was fine, nothing special but clean and neat it was a non smoking room but the corridor outside reeked of smoke!
The bar was tiny bought 2 drinks (for nearly £10) and there was nowhere to sit to drink them.
ok overall but more 3* than 4.

Very dissapointed with this hotel

from HB
We stayed at this hotel the night before we went to America, we chose this hotel as is looked very nice in the brochure and they advertised a very good drop off and pick up service with the car, i thought this would be very convenient. When we arrived at the hotel we had to take our own car to the car park (1/2 mile away) and then wait for a shuttle bus to bring us back with all our cases. I was told that the drop off and pick up service no longer operated! When we got to the room i was very surprised at the dreary, drab room which did not smell very nice at all. I also requested a runway view, but the runway view left a lot the imagination! the only plus point about this hotel is that it is convenient and i think that is the only reason most people stay there!!

Scandinavian Shocker!!!

from SentosaDubai_UAE
At 145 pounds per night, without breakfast it was'nt cheap for a 10 hour lay-over. The reception is on 3rd floor and staff had no idea on rental car drop-offs. They were "wooden" and "icy" not making me feel welcome or warm after a long cold and wet journey. The room was typically Scandinavian, very minimalistic. Calls to housekeeping and maintenance after one hour remedied the inherent faults. The restaurants were VERY expensive and 11 pounds for a tiny overcooked pizza shocking. Staff in the hotel did not have any idea on guest relations and should take a peg out of Dubai's hotels and standards. A terrible experience and in future I will take my company business elesewhere.

ll keep looking

Stayed the night before my morning flight back home – late arrival and early check-out both went smoothly. The room was adequate, and no problem with airport noise, though except for the large size of the room would consider this more of a three-star than a four-star accommodation. While it’s true this is the only hotel physically connected to the airport I have to say that the trip to the international terminal was quite a hike. Spent the week tromping all over Liverpool and London and enjoyed every minute of it, but the schlep to the international terminal was the only one lugging heavy baggage and working up a real sweat. I think that next time I’ll try one of the other airport hotels, and take a shuttle directly to the terminal.

disappointed after so many visits

we have stayed at this hotel for the last 4 years but last october we stayed prior to going on our holidays we had 2 rooms but the second rooms air conditioning wasnt working , after talking to the duty manager the problem could not be fixed so in compensation he offered us breakfast for our party the next morning, but when we went down the next morning the restaurant person said she had no notification from the manager so she could not give us breakfast we we totally humiliated in front of the other diners we went to see the day manager but he didnt want to know we were quite disappointed really as this is a 5 star hotel?
we are going back to the hotel again in oct because it is so convienient for the departure lounge but for that reason only

A big let down!

We stayed here for one night before flying to America to give the holiday a nice relaxed start, but what a disappointment! What star rating is this hotel again?? You could have fooled me! From the tacky decor, uninspiring rooms, dreary corridors to the rip off brasserie & bar. Beware of trying to buy a single spirit here, as apparantly they only sell doubles, which is the most bizarre thing I've ever heard of, but naturally very lucrative for them. The best thing about this hotel was the direct undercover link to the airport terminal, which was very handy. Otherwise, overpriced and for such a new hotel that we had such high expectations off, very disappointing! Thinking of staying here? ...well dont bother, you'd be better off travelling to Malmaison in Manchester city centre or staying at an Ibis for less than half the price!

Great overnighter before early flight, Late July 2004

from CactusPatch
As others have said and noticed the hotel is great for those arriving late and leaving on a flight early. Our trip was a bit extraordinary. We spend a week at a sporting event and had extra luggage. We returned our rental car at the airport and then had the hotel store our luggage for a few days while we took the train from the Airport train station to London. We returned by Brit rail late a few days later, and stayed the night. The next morning we took our luggage to the International terminal. Checked in and then went back to our room for an hour before checking out and heading thru security. We had a large bed with a roll away. Both beds were comfortable. Disappointments were the cost of internet connectivity and the price for food. We chose to eat at the food court at the International terminal.

Excellent Service

We stayed here for one night. I was not feeling at all well after a short flight. We arrived at the hotel at 9.30am. Not sure of check in time, we asked the receptionist, Janina. She was very helpful and kind and let us go to out room straightaway. The service was EXCELLENT, all the staff were courteous, the room was spotlessly clean and we will be staying there again.

Not cheap but very comfortable

from A TripAdvisor Member
I booked myself into the SAS Radisson, in February 2004, as a treat after 2 weeks toiling around Englands roads and staying with family!!! I got a room rate of GBP99.00 which is expensive by my Canadian standards but not bad for a decent hotel in over-priced Britain! I got an Oriental themed room and it was VERY clean and comfortable. I appreciated the access to the airport and train station and took myself off for a final trip (by train) into Manchester itself. That night I treated myself to a very good but unbelievably expensive meal in the restaurant - trying not to convert the GBP45.00 back into C$ otherwise I would have had to drink another glass of wine just to relax - Haha!
Overall a most positive experience - great service and very comfortable accomodation. Its proximity to the terminals makes it very worthwhile as a first night or last night option but next time I will just get a sandwhich and bottle of cheap plonk from Marks & Spencers for dinner!

Not Brilliant at all

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed here in January on our wedding night before a flight to Mexico early next morning. We were given an oriental room, which was ok but they gave us a smoking room when we requested non smoking and the room & whole corridor reeked of smoke, we didn't ask to change rooms as we were exhausted. It was very convenient for checking in for our flight next day. We checked in our cases etc then went back to our room for an hour & watched tv before checking out. We parked in the hotel carpark and they said it would be moved to site off the hotel grounds and would be waiting for us when we arrived back. It was there but the doors were unlocked, though no damage was done. Was not that impressed as it cost 2 of us £150 for one night & 1 week parking.
