Novotel = No Hotel

Be careful if you book your stay via their website and receive an email, like I did, saying "We are delighted to confirm your reservation". It actually means nothing of the sort as I found out when I turned up, only to find my reservation had been cancelled and the hotel was now full!! They said they'd tried to contact me but I'd received neither an email or voice mail.

The staff were beyond useless - once they knew I was not going to be staying there I was no longer considered a 'guest' but a 'nuisance', to be got rid of as quickly as possible. It took me 1.5hrs to find another hotel which wasn't full.

Great hotel!

I am very pleased with the hotel. Spent 4 nights there, got a clean, nice non-smoking room, very quiet. Seemed to be a lot of businessmen and conferences at the hotel so it's obviously not a partyplace! Great breakfast and close to shops and restaurants. Good value for the money! Next time in Manchester I will stay there again!

Great Location , Great Hotel

This is what you would expect from the Novotel Chain. Easy, efficient check in, Modern decor throughout hotel and clean rooms. All in all a standard 3-4* hotel. I got a standard room for Under £60, which to me is what makes it great value for money.

What makes this hotel though is its great location on Portland Street. Walking distance to pretty much everything and a fantastic Thai Restaurant Next door.

Word of warning, dont bother with the Hotel restaurant so many decent places close by, for a fraction of the cost.

We stayed in this hotel whilst in Manchester for the weekend, and it was pretty awful, althouh I'm sure it was out of the ordinary, and the hotel did make amends once I complained.

We arrived with plenty of time to spare before we had to meet up with our friends, with the intention of using the Steam Room that they had there... The steam room was broken. Oh. The parking is not included and is run by a separate company at extortionate prices...

After our afternoon and evening out, we returned to the hotel for a well deserved night's sleep.... which we didn't get. At about three o'clock the fire alarm went off (caused by drunks, apparently) - the staff made no effort to evacuate the hotel, they just stood around laughing whilst most people hung around in the corridors... not good.

After getting back to sleep, I rose in the morning for a shower to find no hot water... oh well, down for breakfast and a chat with the staff. They did not offer an apology for there being no hot water, just a "oh, yeah - it's been off for a while. It might be back on soon" So to breakfast. Breakfast costs £12 and was cold, overcooked, the table was dirty - the milk jug stuck to the table, and was certainly not worth the money.

Eventually the hot water came back so we could shower (with only ten minutes to spare until check out time). On checkout, I mentioned my displeasure and was not greeted with the apology, money off, or anything that I was expecting, just my bill.

In disgust I wrote a long letter to the manager of the hotel. This is where the hotel rescued itself from a 1/5 rating - we were offered a full apology and a free night with breakfast in any UK Novotel. We took this up in the superb hotel in Cardiff. Well handled that man.. but this hotel failed me as a guest and I won't stay there again.

Very good hotel

Two weeks ago we had a wonderful weekend at this hotel. The room was very clean. The hotel staff were very nice and very helpful. Fantastic breakfast. The hotel is in a very central quiet location .We will definitely stay at this Hotel when we visit Manchester again. Mamina

Comfortable hotel

Pros:
Hotel bed very comfortable
Very clean
Very convenient for all places in city centre.
Very quiet.

Cons:
Did not like toilet separate from the bathroom as it felt very claustrophobic and the lock didn't work on the toilet.
Bathroom was a bit small with a badly designed bath/shower - eg. kept stepping on the plug when having a shower which started running the bath.
Decor needs updating.

I recently stayed at the Novotel in Manchester City Center, it has a great location, near a Tram metro station only 30 sec's away St Peter's Square, right next to China town and just a short walk away to spoil myself at the shop's. The staff are really friendly and gave some good reccommendations of dining out and club's to visit.
Paid a really good price and included fantastic breakfast, laid out to help your self to so many choices.
a Definate place to stay for me when I return to manchester for a weekend of shopping and a good nite out, hotel facilities are Gr8 and rooms are really comfortable and spacious.
My choice when I return.

We stayed at the Novotel Manchester Centre for only 1 night to watch a Man Utd game. I liked the location of the hotel because it was very close to St. Peter's Square, where there was a convenient Metrolink stop. We didn't need a taxi because we used the Metrolink to get around Manchester quite easily (Old Trafford, Market Square, Piccadilly).

It's a modern hotel and very clean. It's located on a quiet street between Portland Street and St. Peter's Sqaure. We got back to the hotel after the game just before midnight and the walk from the metrolink stop to the hotel felt safe enough that night. There were no worries with the cleaniness of our room...it was spotless when we arrived. Our room was spacious and had a comfortable queen size bed and a sofa bed. The bathroom was also modern and clean. The toilet being in its own separate room from the sink and tub was different, but didn't really bother us so much. Had a good night's sleep with no disruptions. No issues with check-in or check-out either. Didn't bother paying extra for the hotel's breakfast because I found it too expensive for a breakfast. I paid a decent price with Novotel online for one night, considering it was Easter weekend and there was a football match that night.

I didn't have a bad experience and have no major complaints with the Novotel Manchester Centre, so I wouldn't hesitate to stay at this hotel again.

Convenient location but book your own taxi!

The hotel is conveniently located only 10 mins from Piccadilly station and a short walk to the main city centre shops. The rooms are pretty standard and nothing to rave about. The breakfast costs £12.50 if you are on a room only rate which I think is pretty expensive. The only problem I encountered was getting the hotel to book me a taxi. I asked for it to be booked the night before and it was 20 mins late. When we got to our destination, the taxi driver charged us about £4 more than the fares we had paid for the same journey on the previous day. I recommend that you book your own taxi and don't rely on the Novotel if you want to get to your meeting on time!

Great place to stop to shop, drink and eat. right accross from china town.(buffet city fab £5.50 all you can eat directly across from hotel). pubs and clubs all close by. rooms basic but very clean as new builing. if the price for this hotel is dear at time of travel try ibis hotel part of same company of hotels and is right next door. dif being they have shower only instead of bath and shower. breakfast is £12.99 each so advise to eat out our get all inclusive. Staff are very friendly. fitness room on forth floor but didn't get time to use it. check that your room is not near building work being done at moement. we didn't hear or see anything but some signs were up. bokked direct at time as nowere else was cheaper.

East Excellent lunch at this restaurant in China Town set lunhes from £3.50 to £9.50 for mini Banquet.

Stay Central Mancheter is a very compact city, so by staying in the centre you are already close to all the main attractions. Our trip to the thearte took only a 5 minutes walk, Chinatown for dinner well the best restaurant Yang Sing adjoins our chosen hotel. Shopping was about a 10 minute walk, but well worth it once you get there.

Free shuttle bus For easy sightseeing hop on a free metro shuttle bus. There are three routes which cover most of the city centre and you can just get on and off as you please.
