I booked the Midland Hotel as a special treat for my father's 65th birthday and so that I could take him to Old Trafford to watch England vs Austria match. I was more than pleased with the hotel and especially the French Restaurant where we were treated to a most spectacular meal, probably one of the best I have had ! The whole weekend was a success and the Midland played a BIG part in that - it was excellent ! The only reason it didn't get 10/10 was because we had a triple room but still only enough tea/coffee making facilities for two.

Historical Traveller Reviews of Midland Manchester Hotel

Will be back soon.

from andyboy6672
Have just stayed at the Midland for 2 nights on business. I have to say I will be back to stay on a personal visit soon. This was my first time in Manchester and I was most impressed with the City. As for the hotel - Great!! Wasn't sure about the one way system, especially with the trams, so stopped at the front and the Concierge had my car parked (small charge to pay). Hotel is currently undergoing a huge renovation, and once complete will be stunning. Allowing for the odd workman walking about the renovation is being carried out discreetly and there was no noise at unsociable hours. Room was large with 2 double beds, plenty of storage, dressing table etc. and air conditioning. Breakfast was superb and staff attentive. Special mention to the concierge and the doorman, both extremely helpful and gave good advice on where to eat and drink. One small complaint - drinks in the hotel bar are VERY expensive, but I wasn't paying this time!! Great stay - will be back.

Not bad

A lovely big old hotel in the Manchester theatre district.

The rooms were ok, clean and tidy. The staff were friendly.

A great place in a great place but...........

from PaulL1
I wanted a coffee. At the bar of the function room I was in I was told "Sir, we do not serve coffee at this bar. Try upstairs in the foyer bar". At the foyer bar I was told, "Sir, I am sorry but we do not serve from the bar, please see a waiter who will take your order". I saw a waiter and asked for a coffee, he said, "Sir, I am unable to serve you unless you have a table and seat". I looked around; no table and no seat. The waiter said "Sir, I am sorry but I cannot serve you your coffee".

All in all, its a great place in a great place, but......................

Refurb not a problem

from chica1625
Stayed at the Midland for one night. Check-in and out was fast and efficient. The lobby is currently closed for the refurb but didn't find this to be a problem. Room was one of the ones which had already undergone a refurb - nice decor, quiet not overlooking the road. Refurb work was ongoing very close to the room and started after 9.30 on Saturday morning so not too bad unless you really want a long lie-in.

Diminished grandeur but good value!

Excellent breakfast, excellent price 159 pounds for 2 nights with Full English Breakfast plus free child 's accommodation if beloow ?15.
Cheaper than some nowhereland B & B but this is central Manchester. Walks to St.Peter's, Piccadilly, Arndale, Man University etc.

Go when the refurb is complete

from Gresham
The Midland is undergoing a £13m refurb at the moment and I was lucky to be given one of the refurbished rooms, which has been completed to a very good standard (with one or two teething problems, like a kettle that didn't work - why do ALL hotels skimp on their kettles?). Otherwise it really was very good and I would visit again once they have finished the refurb.

The problem at the moment is that the builing work is shuffling walkways and public rooms around in a way they weren't designed for.so you feel you are staying in a building site once you get to the public areas

So wait until it's finished and I think it will be great.

Wonderful, superb, fantastic!

Now if you want a superb hotel with superb service and superb staff book in to The Midland Hotel, Manchester. I can not recommend it highly enough. The standard was incredible. Every single member of staff was polite and couteous. We had the most brilliant weekend. The food was also awesome! We came away feeling that we had had a real break... everything was perfect. The hotel provided luxury and service beyond expectations. It was fabulous really really fabulous. And it is in a great central location too!

dont stay here!

I have just checked out of the Midland and feel like I've been robbed...

£17.50 to park!
£10 extra to get BREAKFAST in your room!!!

I have just paid £200 to this shabby hotel for 1 nights sleep listening to the tram - I had no breakfast as I couldn't stomach paying the extra tenner for it.

I complained - NO JOY THERE! - What poor customer service.
The bathroom had bits of sealant hanging off the wall (alongside the mould). The room WAS clean - but shabby. The beds too soft - with 2/3 sheets and 1 small pillow each. Paintwork chipped, hallways dingy and tired.

The staff were pleasant enough - but the managers are clearly only just getting away with this hotel and trying to charge you at every move.

Do not stay if your hoping for a classy joint, as it simply isn't. I found it tacky and overpriced - it just doesn't feel good to spend so much money and get fleeced over your breakfast.

The French is the best hotelrestaurant in town

from A TripAdvisor Member
I can't say too much about the hotel rooms. The hotel from outside is absolutely unique and a real landmark. The hotellobby is impressive and from doorman to bellstaff and lobbywaiters all teammembers are patient and friendly. The very best at all I have experienced in this hotel is the restaurant "The French". What a restaurant!!! The lovely decor from the past reminds like you are on board of the Titanic - Chandelliers, warm colours, fine table linen, perfect polished real silver cuttlery. The service is fantastic, decent, always there, absolutely perfect. The menu offer a great choice and what you get is Michelin Star niveau. We had a chateau briand - a fabulous peace of meat, cooked to the point ordered, the best quality I ever had in this country and sliced at the table. WOW!!! Starter and desert were as well phantastic - not to forget the well sorted choice of bread (about 10 different sorts), well presented at the table. We had an absolute phantastic evening there and will definetly come back. As we live in Manchester we do not need a hotelroom, but if they are only 50% of the quality we received at the restaurant it's still on a very high 5 star level. Congratulations!!!

adored it!!

WOW!!!! thats the first thing i said as we enterd The Midland, the check in was rather slow but i was too impressed with the floral arrangements in the foyer to really notice too much, and why everyone is complaining about the lifts? we made a comment on how fast they were compared to some hotels we have stayed in although a little on the hot side with the intensity of the light bulbs. But that was a very minor complaint. As soon as we got into our room we looked at each other and said "We are staying another night lol", we had booked a superior room (room 330) for £125 per room and what a difference to the room we had booked at The De vere Herons reach in Blackpool, which i may add was more expensive than the Midland. This room in the Midland was very sumptous and elegant although i found the bathroom a little disappointing and on the small side, yes the A/C could be updated but it didn`t make the room any less elegant, i thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the midland and will definately be booking again (and not for the turn down service either) a turn down service?? please get a grip, that sounds so terribly spoilt and English, the only ever time i have seen turn down service was at Sandals ultra inclusive in jamaica, but that was reflected in the price....but it wasn`t something i expected, i`m sure the girls have better things to do with their busy schedules than turning down someones bed. And that brings me to the staff of the midland. IMPECCABLE!! is all i can say, very professional, very curteous and very well mannered, well done and give yourselves a pat on the back and see you all again soon. keep up the good work.

Top Local Tips for Manchester

Free stuff I see people have trouble getting food out of the fridge and getting charged for them well what i suggest you do look at the back of the fridge and disconnect the phoneline and disconnect the power note: make sure the fridge door is open when doing it also make sure your about to check out and and don't look back . Note: The reason you get charged on the fridge is because it is added on to your bill because the weight of the fridge would go down

China Town Spoilt for choice don't just go to the first one you pass.Get your hotel concierge to advise the best.

Pubs The hotel bar prices as astronomic but there are many central Manchester Real Pubs with traditional surroundings and bitter at under £1.50 a pint.
