Historical Traveller Reviews of McDonald Hotel
A great, new hotel
from MinervahThis hotel is right beside Picadilly Station. Modern, clean, spacious, quiet. Great bedrooms - mine had a full size window with a great view over the hills and Picadilly station (8th floor).
Friend also stayed - had trouble finding the car-park - although it is behind the hotel, it is hard to find in the one-way systems. She complimented the staff on their efficiency - I didn't have many dealings with them, but they seemed to be fine.
Apart from breakfast, didn't eat there, so can't really comment on the food - although breakfast was standard buffet hotel fare, the selection seemed to be renewed constantly and the tea came quickly.
Nice to be able to recommend a hotel.
PERFECT, PERFECT, PERFECT!
from danni24The hotel is directly opposite Piccadily station and 5 mins walk from the shopping area so it's in a perfect location.
The staff on arrival were spot on from opening the door for us to letting us check in early.
We had room 853 which was an executive double. The room was extremely modern with plasma tv and ipod station. The bathroom was gorgeous with a huge bath and a power shower.
The room and hotel were absolutely spotless.
We had a drink in the bar before heading out in the evening and we paid £7 for a pint and a small glass of house white wine.
The breakfast was out of this world with so much choice.
All in all this hotel is one of the best i've stayed in. The staff are amazing.
At last a great value city centre business hotel

from TWNTI1Fantastic hotel!
from TrixyJOur rooms were gorgeous with huge, extremely comfortable beds, an i-pod docking station so we could have our music on, flat screen TV's etc. etc. The bathrooms are amazing and are huge!! They have a really big bath, massive walk-in shower and are beautifully decorated - 2nd nicest hotel bathroom I've seen after the Wynn in Las Vegas which is FAR more expensive.
A taxi down to the Printworks only cost us £4 and we could have walked but it was so cold outside and our high heels kind of put paid to that too!
We had a delicious breakfast the next morning, with a choice of pastries, fresh juices, fruit, yoghurt, and loads of cooked items as well. Breakfast is til 11am at the weekend, so if you are going out the night before, you won't have to get up too early for breakfast - something which you definitely do not want to miss as it is so nice. We also had lovely toast and coffee and the staff could not have been more friendly and attentive. All in all we would definitely return to this hotel and would recommend it to anyone who is going to Manchester.
PS. If you are taking the train there, you are literally across the road from the station, but can't hear any noise from the trains. The only downside with parking is that the hotel car park is very small, so if you get there later on like we did, there is no space left. However, we parked on a street in front of the hotel which was free, so can't really complain!!
OMG GREAT!
from WeekendGetawayGirlWe were put on the top floor of the hotel and could see amazing views of the city!
It was close enough to the town centre about a 5 minute walk if that!
If you like a big breakfast dont worry have a basket delivered to your room at £10's, must say when i first saw that i thought it was over priced but we got cereal, fruit, cheese and crackers, danish's, croissants, bread rolls, a raspberry cooley, and 2-3 different types of jam along with coffee or tea (which ever you prefered) so for the amount you get i think thats incredibly reasonable.
The rooms were great they were always immaculately clean. The only thing I could say that was wrong with it was the size of the bath lol if you're wanting a soak in deep water it isn't for you! the bath wasn't very deep but the showers were great so i didn't care.
I would say though it is more a getaway for romantic couples or those who would just like to explore the city centre or sites as it is just out of the town dont think its great for families with young children but then again i have none of my own so i wouldn't know!
You cant fault this hotel in itself though its a wonderful little place to stop for a weekend for a getaway. Go and try it out honestly we loved it and are going back there in March 2008 for another wekend except this time were taking a few friends as well to give them the great experience!!!
Great New Hotel
from Woody86When we reached the room, we were delighted to see that we had been upgraded to the Executive rom with a large plasma TV, iPod docking station and Minibar (not that we took anything!)
Everything seemed to be just about brand new in the room and in the hotel in general. Bed was extremely comfy and the room also had heating/air con.
Staff were extremely helpful and couldn't do enough for us over thefull weekend. The receptionist even offered us a brolly as we left the hotel at night.
Not 5 star
from Curley1The room was comfortable and spacious with a king size bed and roomy shower. However, the carpet was in two pieces and looked like it had been thrown in at the last minute. The hallways smelled damp and musty and had wet floor signs where the roof seemed to be leaking in.
The food was distinctly average and my colleague had to send the chicken back as it was uncooked. There was very little variety and when the restaurant became busy the staff couldn't cope and the service became very poor. At breakfast, the food was of good quality but wasn't replenished and I had to wait 10 minutes to get a drink of juice.
If I had been paying the high rates that the hotel commands, I would have been extremely disappointed and having visited several 5 star hotels around the world, the Macdonald doesn't even come close.
Great hotel
from joshua06Good location.
Large rooms great bed!
Excellent fresh breakfast.

LOUNGE 10- Tib Lane What a great night we had dining at this decadent eaterie. The supper club is promoted every last Friday of the month it starts at 1030pm, I would highly recommend eating tea time ish, its a long time to go till 1030pm for food! Oh my god the food........delicious we had fillet steak with fois gois.....to die for. The pudd was Baileys Cheesecake.... wow fantastic and a hefty portion too! The whole atmosphere is just fabulous from the jazz singer to the waiting staff, who are fantastic, to Tony the magician, I have never met such a card tricker....you never catch him out no matter how hard you look. Try it you'll love it.
useless get rid off your guest services manager and arrogant staff,
Trams Use the trams to get around Manchester, you get to see alot more and they dont cost very much. Also very easy to use and only a five minute walk from the hotel to the Metro link tram station

Rooms are spacious, and bathrooms have a separate bath and shower cubicle. Missing is the ability to see Teletext/Ceefax on any TV channel, which is surprising in a new hotel of this quality.
Breakfast and lunch were well prepared, with tasty food, and attentive staff. Disappointingly there were no newspapers available in the public areas of the hotel, nor to purchase at reception.
All the bedrooms, and the conference meeting rooms, have huge windows, which give the whole hotel a spacious feeling. The staff are friendly and enthusiastic. The McDonald is certainly worth a look if you are seeking accommodation in central Manchester.
