I had read reviews on this hotel and thought maybe its not as bad as they had said, i thought as it was quite cheap and would only be spending one night there i would book this hotel and give it the benefit of the doubt....I WAS WRONG!!! After going to the check in desk to sign in and get my key (after waiting around for 10 mins!!) i went to my room and was appauled by the state not to mention the smell. I pulled backt he duvet to see white stains all over it (wonder what that could be!!) after complaining i got some clean sheets which i had to put on the bed myself!! Thinking this could get no worse i entered the bathroom (BIG MISTAKE) there was faeces all over the floor by the toilet (how does anyone manage that?) and no plug in the sink, I daren't even shower! Midway through the night i was awoken by my "neighbours" I didn't know whether it was a very in love couple or a porno!! I didnt know what to expect wheni got out of bed but i thought the worst, I expected to have a family of mice nesting in my shoes etc. I got food poisoning from the week old "cooked" bacon. All in all a brill weekend!! NAAT!!

On arrival, we had to laugh at the tiny desk with the check in book and dodgy bell to ring when theres no staff to attend to you. In high spirits we were were given a key to our room, only along the corridor we had to side step some worn out mattresses in order to get there. When we went inside we had a look round and the modern decor is impressive. The mold on the ceiling, the fag stained walls, the empty diet coke bottle on the floor, etc, etc. This didn't get us down, however when i peeled back the sheets, i found a big wet stain! We moved rooms after this to be moved to the penthouse suite-quite an improvement as the bed was dry! The bar however was the highlight. The drinks were cheap and we received some light entertainment from a scottish magician who could do some nifty tricks with some fag ash! When we returned after a great night out, the bar was still open which is handy for drinking until late in the morning. The rest of the hotel guests were really friendly and one in particular offered to play games of pool and serve us drinks. Odd you might think for another guest to do this but he claimed he was the manager! He asked us if we enjoyed our stay, we told him yes but thought the room could have been a bit better. He told us he was looking to improve his standard of staff (who were nowhere to be seen) and he told us to visit the hotel website. As there was no bar staff at hand,(and he claimed to be the manager) he poured us a couple of drinks. However he was then rumbled by the genuine manager who told him to stop going behind the bar and helping himself! hilarious! We went to bed hearing fake manager mumble that he was going to sack some people tommorow! All in all if you'd like to visit the Grafton, you should do it for the comedy value! ps-You also get some foreign powdered milk in your tea the next morning called creamer!(not to be found in any local shops)!

Not so bad...

...as expected. The rooms are ok, if you don't expect any kind of luxery. The bathrooms are quite terrible, like not being cleaned for ages, but they are just old and in the need of modernization. Good breakfast. The staff is really very nice and friendly.

After reading the last two reviews we were dreading our stay, however we arrived to find a beautiful, bright, clean room which we thought to be good value for money. I would definitely consider staying in the Grafton again in the future

As in the title, unless you want your weekend to be spoilt from the beginning avoid this one. 1. Could not find my booking 2. My daughter and I were put in the attic room with a skylight and no curtain and broken mirrors 3. No working lightbulb 4. Stank of stale tobacco 5. Communal bathroom with no loo roll, broken toilet seat, no plug for sink and guess what, no hot water 6. Breakfast cereal was out of date And they wanted money for all this!!

For £40 a night, this has to be the worst room I have ever stayed in. We arrived to find they had lost our booking and were put in the attic, the bedroom light bulb did not work, there was no toilet roll in the shared bathroom and I almost fell down the loo as the toilet seat was broken too!! No shower attachment, let alone hot water in the morning!! The quality of the room was also disgraceful, a badly broken mirror on the wall, it smelt of stale cigarette smoke and there was no blind at the attic window - which was already covered in condensation when we arrived. If you do decide to stay you'll need to bring your own milk and plug for the sinks!! The cooked breakfast will not be second to none but you’ll find it’s popular as most visitors feel obliged to eat and drink as much as they can before they leave!! Oh and the breakfast cereal was out of date.
