Good hotel,good price
from sannino
Stayed for one night when visiting daughter in uni. Very convenient for the train station, just got off train and crossed the road. Also within walking distance of the Arndale centre. ,The staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms clean but could have done with them being a bit bigger but were fine for one night. The kids had great fun playing with the photography programme on the apple mac. would definitely stay here again.Excellent value for the money
how can you give this place a negative review, its great!!
from rog747
my 2nd stay here,,
after reading a couple of neg comments below i really cannot believe some people!!!
this place really is the business,
for leisure stay or business stays its fine.
its central, new, smart...
rooms are not huge but fine for me...
bright and airy,, clean and functional.
free i-mac in room...wow yes free.
and there is no noise from outside...
only silly kids running down the halls so i told them to shut up!
lol! u cant blame hotel for noisy guests in the rooms.
if you are that picky about things then stay at home!
the breakfast is amazing, yes, the scrambled eggs one morning my friend had were not to my taste but i cant really fault anything...
this place is perfect with a perfect price to match...
the location is 30 seconds walk from piccadilly station, canal st,
trams outside almost, and the shops a few mins,
MEN arena and the URBIS is 10 mins or take the tram to victoria.
there are plenty of staff most of whom seem to have been trained rreally well...
this is a good 4starplus brand new boutiqueish hotel with 2 star prices...dont complain,,
if there is something wrong then tell the desk...
they really do try to achieve almost anything...
btw i did say in my prev review no bath mats...there are!!
i wasnt looking hehe!
i could say the loo paper is abit rough...could be softer,
there you go, i do have a gripe LOL!!!
enjoy this place...

Great new hotel near the station and city centre
from Regular_site_user
A group of us from work stayed here and really enjoyed it. It opened very recently, and has all mod cons including these great iMac PCs in the rooms. Meals, including breakfast also very good. I'll try to stay there next time I'm in Manchester.
A Great Stay!
from Trvlboyz
Have absolutely no complaints! Stayed there during the Manchester/Chelsea match, however not a footie fanatic so wasn't aware. Great location (5 min walk from station & canal street next door to MalMaison) w/o noise and wonderful service. Hotel is newest in Manchester & it shows. Rooms are very tastefully done with free internet access and a iMAC in each room in which to watch TV, listen to music, radio, plays CDs,DVDs,etc. Bathroom & shower, great. Comfortable beds. Have room service & mini bar plus iron, kettle, ironing board & hair dryer in room. Everyone was very helpful & accomodating @ the front desk and bar was quite nice for pre dinner drinks (not cheap). We didn't try the restaurant except my partner had brkst there & he thought it was great. Cost £13. Too bad that the sky bar uptop isn't open to the public. They also have a gym but we didn't get around to viewing it. Ask for special wknd promotions because we booked through Lastminute (£116) & if we had booked through the hotel it would of been cheaper, Autumn promotions of £85 a nite over the wknd.
Would absolutely stay there again if had the opportunity and will make a point of checking out the other City Inns throughout the UK. They are a part of the Summit Hotel chain. Will also make sure to check out their European hotels when we travel outside the UK as well.

Modern Hotel
from SMJ30
The City Inn is a clean, modern hotel in an ok location.
We stayed here for our wedding anniversary and when we mentioned this we were given a free upgrade to a city room.
The room was clean and fresh but a bit on the small side, however the corner spot with floor to ceiling windows was fantastic.
The bar is lovely we were given complimentary olives and snacks and the cocktail menu was great. The breakfast was cooked to order and was lovely.
We have stayed in lots of hotels in Manchester and whilst I felt it lacked the finesse of The Lowry it was much cheaper!! I would certainly consider staying here again.

Am using the free iMac computer facility in my room to type this review. Excellent multimedia gimmick once you master it -- had problems getting mine to switch off last night!
Rooms are bog-standard CityInn though they do have more storage space than the Westminster version and the decor is a little more welcoming. Location couldn't be more central for trams and Piccadilly station so of course you'll get some street noise.
Minibar and treats seem resonably priced too. I ordered roomservice (dear even without the 3 quid tray charge) and it came pretty promptly
Only niggles are that the scrambled eggs at breakfast looked like vomit: runny, messy and totally unappetising and there was a bit of noise from the room next door and excess light under the door too, which meant I didn't get a great night's sleep. Oh and the shower door is almost impossible to close / seal properly so you will end up flooding the bathroom -- guaranteed!!

Great hotel with a few minor drawbacks
from m1nd
The City Inn is close to Manchester Piccadilly station, near the city centre. My room was clean, with fresh modern decor, although slightly small. Unusually for a hotel the air-conditioning controls actually did alter the room temperature!
Every room has an Apple iMac with internet access. The iMac also acts as the multichannel TV (parents note that one of the many free channels was Playboy TV).
One thing to note about this hotel is that trams run close outside. The rumble from the trams was audible but not obtrusive and did not affect my sleep.
Tea & coffee-making facilites are provided along with a mini-bar. I had no milk or regular coffee but this was supplied quickly with an apology when I complained.
Breakfast was to a high standard and cooked breakfasts were prepared freshly to order.

Dont be put off by name or price
from gs4
I won this trip to Manchester and with it I lost the right to choose the hotel I was going to stay in. I had a choice of two for around the same price and I reluctantly decided on the City Inn, as it was new - I guessed it had to be at least clean and anything else I could deal with.
When I can, I like to stay in Hotels with a name or reputation , I like a bit of luxury when I am away from home , dont get me wrong- I also like a bargain. I have been lucky enough to stay in the Hilton Deansgate and Radisson Edwardian a few times but I was not expecting anything like these hotels when I was booked in to the City Inn.
I was wrong , this hotel can compete with the big names in Manchester , It was clean, modern, the staff were polite and friendly , the room was fantastic with an amazing iMac system (bring a few DVD's CD's), mini bar (not the electronic ones that you cant use to cool your own bottled water) which included red (not chilled) and white wine, glasses, ice bucket, chocolate, crisps..... not bad prices either for a mini bar , but I felt it was just as good to use for your own produce (tesco express only 2 min away)
- Breakfast also on par with the best hotels , fantastic choice , fresh produce, cooked to order hot food and you could tell that the staff took great pride in what they served and they way they served it. Lounge/Bar was also very comfortable , and again the staff here impressed , as did the choice of cocktails. I could keep going all day !!
If I had to pick on something negative (and I do mean pick) I would reccomend they add the name to the reception or a welcome board or something - we were dropped to the door and missed the only sign displaying that it was the City Inn , I felt embarrassed asking was I at the right hotel. Also maybe a few pictures in the lobby to remove that new feel. - I will be back however I fear that prices here may rise to be in line with hotels who claim to be on the same level.

Lovely modern clean hotel
from isobelsdad
We stopped here for one night for a concert.
The hotel was brand new, very clean and well run.
We were made very welcome by the friendly and efficient staff, who took our cases to the room and booked us a taxi to the concert venue.
The bedroom was the usual boxy shape that you would find in any modern hotel, but it was spotlessly clean and well appointed. Loved the Apple Mac TV!
The public areas were modern, bright and airy, and it was a pleasure to sit in the bar area when we returned from our concert to enjoy a few glasses of excellent wine. We were provided with free nibbles and olives with each round which was a nice touch.
The breakfast menu was very extensive.
Overall a very pleasant stay.

Only problem was I was there for 1 night only

We were at the City Inn only after I had inadvertently cancelled an existing reservation at the nearby Rossetti - how glad I am that I made this mistake!
I thought the City Inn was superb - lovely interiors/reception, very helpful and friendly staff (allowed us to check-in early) and the room was wonderful. Floor to ceiling window, great crisp linen on the bed, which was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in! Spotless bathroom (I know it's new) and the Imac was a good alternative to a conventional tv.
I will now stay at the City Inn whenever I am in Manchester as it is very hard to find a hotel that you like as much as I liked this, so best to stick with it.
My only regret was that we were there just for the one night, having travelled up to Manchester for a gig.
