Historical Traveller Reviews of Britannia Sachas Hotel
Once we had checked in (finally) we went to our room. The only thing we liked was the size of our room and that it had a fridge everything else was horrible. The room stunk and was musty as was the linen on the bed. The decor was tacky and very out-dated. The bedside lamp was smashed and the fan heater would only work on one setting. The window also didn't open. The thing that probably annoyed me the most was the double bed which was two single bed rammed together.
After venturing out that day we came back to our room to find that our key card was not working. My boyfriend went down stairs to seek assistance and they kept sending him back (3 times in total) with other cards that still didn't work. Eventually they took the card off us and said that maintenance would look into it first thing in the morning. So this meant that every time we went out of the room we had to go to reception and wait in line for 10mins, then spend 10mins explaining why we didn't have a key card and to get them to let us back into our room. The next day we went out quite early and went back to the hotel at about 1pm but they still hadn't fixed the problem and it was not fixed until about 5pm.
The room service food was nice but took a long-time to be delivered. On the two nights that we had room service we waited over an hour for each meal and on the first night they sent us the wrong food.
The "hot" buffet breakfast was cold and undercooked the first morning we went down to the restaurant. Even though it was included in the price of our package we didn't go to breakfast there again instead we went out.
I also when to the bar one evening for a beer and although I was the only person waiting at the bar to be served it still took the 2 bar staff approx. 10 mins to serve me.
A couple of other annoying things were the fact that the swimming pool wasn't open as this was one of the reasons I had booked this hotel instead of others and for the time we were there one of the lifts was broken.
The only thing good about the hotel was it's central location but other than that it was crap and completely different from the photos on the website - it's amazing what airbrushing will do!!!
good location, bit tattyfrom gigmaster
i asume it is also compulsory to smoke in all parts of the building due to the general odour of the place.
Cheap but dissapointingfrom EdCov
I had noted that I wanted a non-smoking room, but this room stank of smoke, and the proof of this was that after one night my pyjamas stank of it. The noted white fridge was there, and I agree the decor was not great, but if it had not been for the stench of smoke (even with the windows left open when we were out) it would have been a good room.
The evening meal was supposed to have a selection of vegetarian dishes, there was one and that was not great. It was convenient to eat in the hotel when you have a small child, but dissapointing.
At breakfast the next morning my wife picked up some cheese which was nearly a month out of date, the cooked breakfast looked uncared for, bacon did not look properly cooked, my egg had obviously been standing far too long. All the fruit juices seemed watery. Service was not bad, but though there was a good choice it was not pleasant.
A word of warning - to enter this hotel you have to go up stairs, and there is a revolving door or you have to ring a bell to get someone to open a door. Not great if like us you have a push chair. There is a stair lift to meet disability regulations, but we ended up having to pull the pushchair up the steps, not great.

Great hotelfrom sage09
I thought it offered excellent value for money & if I was returning I would stay here again.
The downside was the fact that our "double bed" consisted of 2 singles shoved together. When we complained we were ofered another room. (I've seen this complaint made by other reviewers).
The highlight of our stay was the buffet breakfast each morning- absolutely fantastic.
The location is excellent.
I would return to this hotel (provided I was assured that the double bed was in fact one bed!).
Nice Hotel - Above average for a short stayfrom A TripAdvisor Member
Hotel is a slow 10 minute walk from Piccadilly train station and is slap bang in the centre of all the action. Apparently this hotel used to be the old C&A building. Debenhams is the next building to it and the back entrance to the Arndale Centre is across the road.
Hotel looks like a cross between a neon lit club and a casino from the outside and from the inside a cross between a casino and the titanic! Interior is very regal with massive crystal chandeliers, mahogany and gold trimmings and sumptuous carpets.
Now for the minus points. Due to the central location of the hotel, the surrounding buildings are very industrial looking and hotel sits in a quietish back street just off the high street and is not the sort of place you would want to be on a dark night. The interior is a little tired looking if you want to be really critical but then if you want gleaming splendour then pay £200.00 a night at a top notch hotel - in other words you get what you pay for. The reception could do with more than one person on duty - you have to hang around waiting whilst the smarmy bald guy does three jobs at once.
I had a city single room on the fourth floor with NO WINDOW - which i was told about when booking through laterooms. Was a little strange having just a pair of curtains on a blank wall but air con worked fine and room was lovelly and quiet. Had two beds pushed together to make a double and a clean en-suite. All the usual bits and pieces like hair dryer, trouser press, tea and coffee. Nice big telly with about four sky channels (if you like sky news or kiddy shows).
Only had breakfast there which was great - buffet style with cereals, yogurts, fruits, juices, different breads, and bacon, eggs etc etc etc which were constantly topped up. Plus if you are a pig you can eat and drink as much as you want.
All in all - a good value hotel for the money.
Excellent hotel, 7 star quality, compares to the Hiltonfrom A TripAdvisor Member

s ok!!from JC_77
It is NOT a 5* hotel, but for the price, it is excellent quality. The decoration is garish - the public areas wouldn't look out of place in Vegas, and the rooms were "retro" but not in a cool way!!
We had a room with a window, as did my colleagues. The rooms were average size, a couple of the rooms even had fridges. The room appeared clean, but did smell a bit smoky.
My colleagues sampled the leisure facilities and said they were fine. After having tried breakfast, we decided we'd give dinner a go in the restaurant. The food was great. Not 5* dining, but for those prices in central Manchester you couldn't beat it!
If you go to this hotel, bear in mind that you get what you pay for - and it's fantastic value for money. If you can see past the decor, you can't beat this hotel for its price and central location.

Print works Just a short walk from Sachas is the print works. A huge old biulding with an amazing array of bars, nightclubs etc. Tiger Tiger provided a good mixture of music to suit a range of tastes, great for hen nights.
