What a shame!

What a shame that such a wonderful building is being allowed to become so run down by its owners! The carpets, furnishings and decor is dirty and in many places, including the room that we stayed in, in need of complete renovation. My advice to the owners is to sell off a few of the unnecessary antiques which make the place look cluttered and pay for some major works!

Reminders of a country house weekend

I love this place. It has so many reminders of how we used to live. The fact that many of the staff live on the premises gives it the feel of coming to stay with the family. Attentive, but unobtrusive service, constant piping hot water and a newspaper in the morning room after breakfast all remind of a more leisurely pace of life.
As parts of the building date from the 14th century there is a little unevenness along the floors. The south-easterly slope in some of the bedrooms can be a disadvantage if you have a single bed. My advice to single travellers is to ask for a double bed just to ensure you dont role out in the middle of the night. In my opinion the little idiosyncracies of the building add to its charm. I will be going back.

Maldon a lovley town. Such a shame about this Hotel, as the potential for this hotel to be such a grand hotel is great , especially for overseas visitors/ tourist . I found my room unclean and not worth the premium price my company had to pay, will never use again, unless changes hands and refurbished.

Tatty, overpriced but food excellent. Needs updates on bathrooms and worn carpets. Tariffs too high for this hotel. Staff need training in customer care and friendliness. Manager/owner was charming and fair, giving discount for lack of hot water over one night.

On our visit, the Customer service was not. Although the hotel is quaint and a period property the price we paid was overly priced for tatty rooms in need of decorating and cleaning. Scorched lampshades, stains on wallpaper, cobwebs and dust. Shower also run slow.

Really beautiful hotel with great antique details. Great food and really nice local beers. Located next to a nice little church.
