Great service, friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere

Although not the cheapest hotel in maidstone, definitely one of the most luxurious. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful, and and the bar and restaurant staff provided fast and friendly service. They were polite and helpful. It was a lovely relaxed evening. Thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend it. The rooms were well presented, nice and large, and the beds were comfy and huge new TVs!
So although it wasn't the cheapest weekend, as the food and drinks prices were a little high, I left feeling happy.

Unintended room inspection.

Booked before reading reviews, so was a bit anxious. Needn't have worried. We found the hotel to be very good. Our room had recently been refurbished, and was large ,airy and quiet . We mislaid a ring and shifted beds and furniture - no nasty surprises there, everything was clean and tidy. (Ring found at home!). A good sized bathroom, which was also spotless. The buffet breakfast was excellent, with lots of choice. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. Would definitely return.

Dated, worn and not 4 star

Did not look at the reviews before staying and used it as a stopover for 1 night after a return journey from the south of France to Newcastle. The hotel appears to have been a previous chain and is in serious need of updating the corridors, doors etc were chipped and the carpets worn, our room was spacious with 2 double beds but had seen much better days but at a cost of £69 for 4 of us Bed and Breakfast it wasn't too bad, however, as my 16 year old daughter asked does Mr Hilton check over all his hotels before he puts his name on the door!! and if so why is it on this one. The Pool however, was fine and we enjoyed the steam room etc which was a welcome break from our journey, the breakfast was also good, I just expected better overall and would not stay here again.
I'm sure if theres a priority list of hotels waiting for updating the Hilton Maidstone must be at the top.

Decent, but no better

A decent hotel, but no better. I've stayed here on a business on three or four ocassions in the past year, and have done so simply because its handy for the motorway. However I wouldn't bring my wife here on a leisure break. Unlike every other HIlton I've ever been in, its run-down, there are torn and worn carpets everywhere, all the furniture in the rooms has seen better days (long ago), and the in-room wifi didn't work.

Stay here only if you have to.

Stayin here now, and writing review from the lobby. Internet access in room didnt work and the "free" Wifi access was charge at 10 pounds for 24 hours. Room was OK, a few problems with it that shouldnt reallt happen in a 4 star hilton. I'm on business and booked it on the premise that its a business hotel, but check-in was slow and the lack of decent broadband access has put me in a bad view of Hilton.

Not a FOUR STAR Hotel!

Unlike the last reviewer I chose a deluxe room (after seeing the standard room) for an extra £20 per night and thought it was definately worth it, new carpet, recently decorated and newer furniture etc. We stayed here for two nights on the Hilton summer break rate of £69.50 per room per night including breakfast and dinner on the first night for two people, we upgraded and paid £89.50 per room per night which I thought was a pretty good deal, but I don't think their normal room rates justify four star prices.

Yes, there is no airconditioning in ANY rooms in this hotel and there should be, I dread to think what this hotel would be like on a really hot day/night. In most of the hall and stairways the carpets are threadbare in places. My booking was incorrect and I was overcharged on two counts and the reception staff were not that friendly or welcoming. The price of food and drink was excessive to say the least, sandwich prices in the bar cost between £8 and £10 and a 250ml glass of white wine was about £6.25 these are 5 star London prices! Needless to say my wife and I found a really good pub just a walk up the road (The Chiltern Hundreds) where we consumed excellent and sensibly priced food and drink, I even popped out one night and the pub did us a 'takeaway'. If Hilton sorts all these things out AND refurbishes the whole hotel it might be worthy of four stars and MAYBE but ONLY MAYBE would it be fair for them to charge these prices.

I booked a deluxe room on the basis that the website description for the room was that it had recently been furnished. Unfortunately this appeared to have happend a long time ago. Doors on the units did not shut properly, the carpet looked threadbare, the bed was lumpy, the internet connection did not work and there was only a stand alone fan and no airconditioning - on one of the hottest weekends of the year to date.

The worst aspect of the room was the dated bathroom which to be honest did not look like it had had any maintenance for many years. The bath had chips in it and the grouting was stained and missing in some areas.

As a gold Hilton Card holder I think this hotel lets down the chain on so many fronts.

I can not recommend this hotel at the price I paid especially when there are so many cheaper and better hotels in the area.

B deal is great value

We stayed here for 2 nights as a base for London and Canterbury. We paid £69.95 per room per night on DB&B board basis. For this price the accommodation was excellent with two double beds, large room and good leisure facilities. Yes the rooms were a bit dated and could do with a paint job, and yes it isn't a purpose-built Hilton, rather a conversion from another chain, but all in all the quality, service and price was right. The dinner in the restaurant was slightly above average and the breakfast came through with variety, choice and quality. Beware though that this is a two storey hotel with no lift.

For what you pay, this really isn't a very good hotel at all. It would be a good mid-price mid-range hotel, but when the price for carrying the Hilton brand is an attention to detail and a sense of sleek, modern efficiency, this hotel lets the brand down. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with it, but it's just charmless, lacking in features and (in parts) showing its age - worn carpets, and faded bathrooms. Rooms a fair size, comfortable and quiet though.

This hotel is ok, but not what you probably imagine as a 4* Hilton should be! After an excellent stay at the very nice Hilton at Swindon, I booked this expecting a similar standard, but it is in a much lower league. It is definately a tired 3* Hotel, and the restaurant and breakfast are decidedly average! Rooms are not very good but acceptable. Swimming Pool is quite good though.

A bit boring but competent

I booked this hotel because it was the only large chain hotel in the area and I wanted something reliable and predictable. No surprises here then!

Rather boring reception but very good check-in staff. Had to wait for my room but they were fully booked and it happens.

One word of caution though....the double beds are all queen size only which can be a bit of a squeeze for a large couple! Book the King suite for a few pounds extra and you get a living room and a proper king size bed.

The decor was a bit folksy and probably hasn't been changed since this was a stakis hotel a while back.

The in house restaurant was surprisingly good quality though the staff were a bit inexperienced.

Overall, if you HAVE to stay over in maidstone then this is probably the best place to do it, but Las Vegas it ain't!

Expresscabs I booked an Expresscab 24 hours before I needed it to get to a wedding. It arrived 20 minutes and only after two phone calls to them to ask where it was.

Local restaurants...and scene. There is a very good restaurant overlooking Bearsted village Green about 1 mile away. The Restaurant is called "le Souffle" and I would rate it highly. (It is in some of the guides) For the same cost as dining at the Hilton, the standard is much higher... Cost for a set four course dinner including coffee was £25.00. Worth booking!!If the weather is good, a walk in Mote park is worthwhile. there are a number of Pubs within walking distance.
