It has a lovely location, but the prices are high for Exmoor. It was overpriced and not particularly good value for money.
We had stayed there a few years ago, but it had since changed hands. The food was very imaginative and well presented.
The Rising Sun Hotel is really an Inn, the bottom line you are staying in a pub with rooms.
Lynmouth has a stunning coastline and beautiful countryside and the area is well worth a visit atleast once a year.

We stayed at the Rising Sun on a Tuesday evening in January for one night. The rate of £130 for two B&B was about 30% higher than we usually pay in similar establishments in the Exmoor area, but we had had an excellent lunch there earlier in the year and wanted to try it out.
The friendly reservation person offered us a sea view room at no extra charge as the hotel was not full (in fact we turned out to be the only guests). The room was small, but very elegantly decorated, even though the little armchair was rather squashed in underneath the television. The bed was comfortable and the reading lights adequate. There was a hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities. The telephone wakeup service did not work (we found that out when we woke up next morning).
The bathroom was tiny and the shower would be a real problem for anyone weighing over 250lbs, particularly if they dropped the soap. One slight irritation was that one could only turn on the light over the mirror when the main bathroom light and noisy fan were running.
The seaview was of limited value, as we couldn't leave the curtains open at night because of the lights outside the front of the hotel. Not sure why the hotel name etc. needs to be illuminated at 3:00 a.m.
We had dinner in the bar as this was more appealing than the dining room, and were assured that all the fish on offer "came in today". The chef was accommodating in making some changes for us from the menu offerings. The John Dory and the mussels were excellent, as very little needed to be done to them, but the crab cakes and scallops were more fussily presented and not so successful. The bar and table service was adequate, but not particularly professional or enthusiastic.
Breakfast was pleasant, although my husband was not impressed with the quality of the bacon or sausage. The cereal and fruit buffet was obviously downsized on our behalf. That's understandable, but I have stayed in more modest establishements that have presented a better offering despite our being the only guests.
Perhaps if we had stayed longer and in the high season we would have required and been offered better service, but surely the mark of a superior hotel, of whatever size, is that standards are the same at all times of the year and however many guests are to be accommodated.

watersmeet Make sure you take a walk up the river to watersmeet its about one and a half miles but you will not be disappointed absolutely stunning
Valley walk to Watersmeet Take the valley walk to Watersmeet. A pretty and gentle walk to the lovely National Trust property where you can find refreshments, following the valley which suffered the flood of 1952.
Dont bother Beautiful drive to get there, but not really worth the effort on one small row of shops and nothing else

The receptionist was helpful and gave us lots of local info.
We stayed at the Rising Sun Hotel for a romantic break and had a nice time.
The restaurant is good with wonderful food but the bar was little smokey.
