The Fieldhead Hotel in Looe is just the best

Just had a Winter week at the Fieldhead Hotel in Looe and loved it. Cannot fault the hotel. Looe too is a super little town excellently placed for viewing the surrounding area, super sandy beach, rock pools, cliffs, working harbour, excellent town centre parking and all its nooks and crannies, small ancient back streets one can just feel those old smugglers and fishermen - antique shops and even at this time of year, has a healthy night life and the best little pub Ye Olde Salutation.

We had a standard double with that fantastic sea view as do all the public rooms. Very comfortable, warm and one of the cleanest hotels and hotel rooms we have stayed in. Most hospitable host in Julian. Friendly efficient service. Great fresh food with an excellent buffet and hot selection for breakfast including the best kippers ever. Dinner too was excellent. We booked to have dinner each night and did not regret one of them with a different menu each night and always well cooked and pleasingly presented. The reasonably priced wine list of some 40 wines showed a professional skill of choice in its diversity of wine and price. Bar drinks a bit expensive, but then all are House doubles.

A big bonus is the free on site car parking adjacent to the hotel. Sadly we were not there at a time for the swimming pool, which I can imagine, is just outstanding during the Summer with its also wonderful Mediterranean views.

All that and the price? Very reasonable for all we had.

Yes, we will be back and have no hesitation to recommend it. Stay there, and as they say, you'll not regret it.

Top Local Tips for Looe

Other Hotels We have also stayed at the Barclay house and the Hannafore Point Hotel which are two of the better hotels in the Looe area with better customer service.

Early and Late Looe is the perfect getaway early and late season. The roads are unclogged, the hotels and eateries are not heaving and if you are really lucky, the sun will shine and the sky will be clear blue. Beware though, the winds can be a bit chilly so take a coat, scarf and gloves as well as your sunglasses! In the Spring the primroses and daffodils are breathtaking and the walking is great especially on the coastal paths going West. The sea is sometimes good and rough - great photos but a real challenge for the little fishing boats that come and go at the beginning and end of the day - always worth putting the binoculars in your bag as well as the camera - you may even see a sea lion or two - we did!

Good food in Looe There are good places to eat in Looe. We would not recommend the Fieldhead. However, Barclay House is a lovely restaurant producing excellent local products. And the view is wonderful. Would also recommend Trawlers for good fish and the Old Sail Loft restaurant. Kelly's fish and chip restaurant serves really excellent fish and chips.
