I have just returned from a London break having stayed at the Farringdon Travel Lodge. Having made use of their Saver deals I must say that I didn't get 4 or 5 star accomodation - but they didn't promise me that. I didn't get 4 or 5 star treatment, but they didn't promise me that either. What I did get was a basic, cheap and efficient service just like I was promised. Yes, traffic noise is a problem there but that was the only problem that I found with the place, probably because I went for the cheapest accomodation and didn't expect top class accomodation. In other words , if you want the comforts of a Rolls Royce, don't go in for a mini and expect the same style and performance. You only get what you pay for. This hotel did exactly what I paid it for and as a bonus I found that the reception staff were friendly, polite and very helpful. I would certainly use Travel Lodges in future if I needed cheap and easy to book accomadation.

A rip off by anyone's standards

The beds in this hotel are the worst I have experienced. Two single mattresses stuck together. Very uncomfortable. A rip off by anyone's standards. The parking is offloaded to a shark company and you stand a good chance of having your vehicle broken into by the local scag heads. The bar is unfriendly, the traffic noise from the main road is horrendous. Would you really want to stay here if you had a choice?

Organisational catastrophe

Bringing a group of 8 people who had never been to London before is not so easy, but having to cope with the poor organisation of the hotel when you get there only increases the problems. The electronic room key cards only worked half the time (our fault because we put them near our credit cards or similar). The breakfast room was poorly laid out and at only after it had been opened 30 minutes, there was almost nothing left. There is nowhere to store luggage, but if you pay ten pounds, they will find a place for you. The rooms are clean, but very noisy. Will not book a group there again.

Stayed here with my disabled sister-in-law and three kids aged 19,10 and 8 in August 2006. Handy to public transport, bus 63 outside the front door. Had read a review saying that the hotel wasn't that great and was really very pleasantly surprised. Booked 2 rooms, a double and a triple - paying supersaver price of £26 per room per night! Bright airy rooms - clean with ensuite facilities. There was a TV and coffee and tea making facilities. All rooms had clean towels and soap. We also paid for the £6.50 as much as you can eat breakfast. Children aged 10 and under ate free and I thought this was very good value for a full English breakfast! Staff seemed reasonably pleasant and the reception staff were curteous. We took a taxi to the London Eye costing £8.00 which wasn't bad for the 5 of us!! Really felt that we had a most pleasant stay here and would reccommend the hotel to anyone particularly if you are lucky enough to take advantage of the supersaver deal!!!!!

Top Local Tips for London

Flag A BLACK CAB in the street If your flagging a cab, SOOOO many men in cars stop their car and ask where your going, and they dont have any signs on their cars, so their not registered taxi drivers and will charge what they want, but they do claim to be a cab driver, but dont go in their cabs, only use black cabs.

Great day out Visit the food market at London Bridge (south of river, opposite the station) on Fridays and Saturdays. Plenty of stalls selling everything from Burgers, greek food , cider etc. Also stalls selling flowers and plants. There are loads of bars and cafes including a micro brewer. You can then walk along the thames bank and visit the Tate, have a drink by the waterside etc
