Our room was comfortable enough and large, but shabby. There were spots on the carpets (big ones), water ring stains on the coffee table, and our room was at the very end of the hall with a window. There was a set of escape stairs leading to the window which significantly blocked our entrance to our room. We could not get the room to warm up and were cold much of the time but that could have been due to our not understanding how to work the thermostat properly. One evening we ordered room service amounting to 12 pounds and when we checked out we had quite a bit of trouble with the desk clerk because the computer was down and they couldn't find the charges so they charged me a 50 pound deposit even though I produced the ticket showing them exactly what we had received. I was very unhappy with the attitude and of the front desk staff. They never did tell us about the breakfast buffet (which was included in our room) and I only discovered that we could have had it after I arrived back home in the States. The staff were not overly friendly, though not rude, except for the clerk who did our check out. The hotel is undoubtedly in a great location, is well enough appointed, decently priced for London. I would stay there again--but would hope for a room in a better location of the hotel. I think part of our discomfort arose simply from unfamiliarity with our surroundings and culture shock as this was our first trip across the pond.

Thistle Lancaster Gate is a great example of a moderately priced hotel. Location is excellent, rooms are clean, service is okay, price is almost unbeatable. We've stayed in other mid-range hotels in pricey London, and this was by far the best value. Best features: Location and price. Worst feature: Breakfast buffet -- meat and cholesterol eaters will probably like it, but there were few good choices if you don't care for sausage and eggs.

This was our second stay in this hotel. It is well located close to the Central Line tube staion at Lancaster Gate and close to the restaurants at Queensway. The room we had on this occasion was a studio room which was quite large and very comfortable. The staff were helpful and efficient but not overly friendly. Still, it is good hotel in a great location.

Fantastic location opposite Kensington Gardens meant it was central to all sights. Close to Lancaster Gate tube station on the Central Line made travelling around London easy. Facilities were good without being great, nothing more than normal supplied. Beds and rooms were comfortable and there was plenty of room to move and for your bags. Staff were on a whole OK, but a particularly rude man in charge at reception on our arrival spoiled our stay a bit.
