We stayed two days at the Thistle Victoria on a layover between Malaga and San Francisco. The hotel has grand bones and an impressive lobby, but that is where any illusion of grandeur ends. Once past the lobby, the hallways and rooms are tired and faded.
Reception was snotty and uppity, the staff was useless when we needed help getting out bags up or down to the street level (no elevators to the street level). When I asked how much it cost to hook up to the internet in our room, I was told that the cost was £15/24 hours, which is way beyond reasonable.
Worst of all was our bed. The mattress was thin and aged; just turning over, we bumped on wood underneath. When I complained, I was told that the room was scheduled to be refurbished. That is no excuse not to keep the mattresses up-to-date.
We got a terrific rate when compared to others who have rated this hotel, but that is no excuse for all the discomfort and poor attitude of the staff. Next time, we'll pick another hotel.
