Avoid this hotel at all costs. Bins outside the fire exit, room which smell disgusting and as if they haven't been cleaned properly ever. Unhelpful staff with terrible attitudes. The bin blocking the fire exit was the last straw. We checked out.

no one in reception the carpet fitter had to fetch him. we booked in and went to our room. Well , shade missing, the room smelt stale, wall paper hanging off, nothing like the picture shown on the holtel website. I could go on but we checked out. All the passgeways obstructed by put-u-up beds, no fire exit instructions in the roon, should have its fire certificate revoked.

We arrived at the hotel, which from the pavement appeared very respectable. There were pretty plants outside and the door and the reception was clean and stylish.

HOWEVER as you moved further into the foyer it became immediately obvious that they had only spent money here, on the only part of the hotel that could be seen from the street.

The stairway leading off the reception had ill-fitted carpet, which was ripped and paint stained, and laundry bags were piled up at the bottom of another staircase.

We returned after a day in the city to check in, only to find the shower in our room just dribbled cold water. When we complained we were moved to a new room, which ironically, was considerably worse.

There was a hole in the wall stuffed with paper, the toilet seat and sink were not fixed properly, hardly any of the lights worked, and more worryingly several of the electronic sockets were hanging from the wall with wires exposed. The furniture was chipped and by the door there was no wallpaper, exposing the bare plaster underneath.

Furthermore, there were no instructions in the room to indicate fire safety measures, which concerned me given the dodgy wiring?!

When we complained, the man on reception seemed surprised, but I'm sure the staff are perfectly aware of the condition of their property. Within half an hour of our arrival we saw at least 2 other people complining at reception. They claimed they were renovating, although there was absolutely no evidence of this.

DO NOT stay here!

We arrived from the tube and the reception looked very swanky, all wood and mirrors. However, this was the ONLY place money had been spent. After being moved from one room (due to no hot water) the 2nd room we were given, there was a large hole in the wall, the tiles in the bathroom were not attatched properly, not one of the sockets were properly attached with wires exposed throughout the room. Only 1 of the lights in the whole room worked and there were large scuff marks all over the walls! The receptionist feigned surprise when we relayed this to him but as he had already taken payment couldn't have cared less. I cannot advise more strongly to avoid this hotel and the charlatans running it!!!

Just got back after 4 days at The Ascot, and I do believe we had a good stay. You get what you pay for; it's a cheap hotel in central London, what do you expect?!! We had a 3 person room and it was ok. It was clean, and we got new towels each day, the beds were made each day and the upkeep of the room was quite good. Only thing annoying was that one of the windows didn't close all the way, but it wasn't that cold, so no problem. The lift worked and the staff was really nice a very helpful... Not the entire hotel looked good, but then again, they are completing a renovation of the place… Breakfast was had at the next door restaurant, and quite good with plenty of food.
Other reviews mentioned that the trash from the restaurant was just left outside on the street; that's what they do in London. How many trash bins have you seen?? London doesn't have many bins as they tended to be blown up in the past…

When I arrived at the hotel the manager and a member of staff checked me in. They were neither polite or helpful and the manger was very intimidating questioning my payment details like an interrigation!! My room to my surprise was nothing like the photos on the website, it was down a dark corridor next to a storage room which looked like something out of a demolition site and there was gumble outside my room door. The room itself was like a shoe box with an ensuite with no door, a toilet which had clearly been used before I had got there - if you cathch my drift and a shower which the door wouldnt close and caused the room floor to flood. I had no towels provided, no hairdryer, no kettle etc which I asked for 2 days running and still never received before I left! Also to top it off breakfast was a do it yourself kettle and toaster job !! This hotel really does not live up to the impression it gives on it's website!!

Booked via Laterooms so I got a big discount, even still I fell ripped off. Even the hostels I stayed in are nicer than this.

There were holes in the wall, noisy from both inside and outside due to the windows and cheap wooden corridors (doors always slamming),

Looks like a building site, mould on the wall, electrical wires hanging out, wallpaper falling off the walls, and funny smell from the bathroom, fire exits blocked with rubbish.

Health violations galore. No wonder they made me pay upfront. Also tried to charge me extra for credit card

Do not stay here.

Our family room had bare wires hanging out the wall,an 8 inch hole in the floor covered by the carpet. The wardrobe would not open because the bed was up against it. The carpet was hanging off on the satirs and fire escapes were blocked by rubbish. I took pictures of all the problems and compained to staff but the girl on reception said she didnt care.

Ascot Hyde Park is a cheap hotel. The room was clean, but very cramped. Some of the fixtures were broken. There was no window and no extractor in the bathroom, so steam and smells percolated the bedroom. There was a hole in the bathroom wall, no washbasin plug, and no curtain around the shower which allowed water to puddle on the floor. This made the floor very slippery and is therefore a health and safety issue. One of the electric sockets in the bedroom worked only intermittently, also a health and safety issue. There were no evacuation/fire instructions in the bedroom and no emergency exit notices visible from the bedroom. The cover was missing from the fuse box on the landing, located at a height which could be reached by most adults. This would appear dangerous. The carpet on the stairs was not fixed properley and could easily lead to a fall. There is a lift. The staff were courteous to us, but we witnessed 2 arguments during our stay, when the staff were far from polite. The breakfast is very basic. One of the kitchen staff had a dressing on a finger which was neither waterproof nor brightly coloured. This should have been resolved by the kitchen/hotel manager. We would not use the Ascot Hyde Park again, but it was cheap and some of the above could be said to be due to the price. However health and safety issues as well as environmental issues should be addressed.

My friend and me went to London the past weekend. We had booked a hotel at the German hotel website www.hotel.de. We had boooked hotels with them before and every single one of them has been great. They offer good deals at reasonable prices.
We ended up booking the "Ascot Hyde Park Hotel" which was rated with 3 stars. The photos looked nice and we thought it was a great location close to Paddington and in walking distance to Hyde Park and Oxford Street! We went to the hotel website and it really looked ok for the price we paid. Unfortunately we did not do any further internet research - we really should have done so. Reading the reviews here only showed that other guests were treated just like us.

We arrived Friday night, we had booked late arrival. The hotel is only a short walk from Paddington station but I guess that is about the only advantage! It does not even look bad from the outside, it kind of looks like it does on the pictures shown online. By check-in the receptionist, a younger girl, told us they had a little problem and that she needed to give us a room in their sister hotel down the road. Obviously they had a leak or something but people were working on it and we could have the room we booked the next day. She strengthened that their sister hotel, the Glendale Hotel had the same standard and that we would love it. She was very wuick in charging my credit card - we were kinf of unsure since things just seemed to be strange. At that point it as just a feeling! The receptionist tried to be nice. We refused to pay a 3% extra charge because we were paying with credit card. I have never experienced that any hotel would charge you extra because you are paying with a credit card when they tell you they accept several cards. I thought it was strange, but it was almost midnight, we were tired from the journey, wanted to take a shower and go to bed.

Anyway, we walked to the so called sister hotel where we found another unprofessional receptionist who told us they weren't even sister hotels and had completely different management and that his hotel could not even be rated with 2 stars. We had asked him if we could stay there both nights then to avoid the change of room the next days. He laughed and said we would be better off changing since the Glendale standard was not comparable to the Ascot standard. We were given a room in the basement, which was horrible!!! It was really a nightmare! The bathroom was not even in the room which we had booked, the sink was tiny, you could not even wash your hand there without making a real mess. The shower was in the middle of the room, so when you took a shower, the whole toilet and floor were wet. The beds were old and broken, there was a window and all you could see was an old dryer stored in front of it. You could not even look out to see if the sun was out or if there was pouring rain. It was really disgusting!!!
We went back to the Ascot to file our comlaint. There was another receptionist there by now but the girl was still there as well. They both told us they could not do anything about it and we had to talk to the manager on the next day and that he would be ehre from 7 in the morning. I asked them to give me my money back since I was not willing to pay one penny for such a shabby place and unsatisfying service. Please note: we have both travelled a lot in our lifes, I have seen plenty of hotel rooms, I also have stayed at two hostels in London and both of them were alright, clean, safe and with friendly staff with rooms according to their standard. I have never experienced anything like this.
In the end no one could help us. It was in the middle of the night, we tried to find another hotel in the area but all of them were completely booked and it did not really make sense to walk around London in the middle of the night to find a room. So we stayed in our room in the basement. I did not sleep very well, I was always expecting someone to break into the room or some little animal to come out and crawl over me. After a horrible night we got up early to see the manager - who was not there at 7, of course...He did not show up until around 8.30 - they told us to go next door to Maxim's restaurant to have breakfast in the meanwhile. This place was just another nightmare - with the same manager! There were rats outside, there was leftover food on the floor and it was even more disgusting.

Talking to the manager did not really help. When we told him we had a problem he said he did not have any time to deal with it and that we should not interfere with his work. Excuse me? So who is the guest now??? He started to yell at us and that he did not have a solution for the problem. It seemed like he had no idea of how to run a hotel and that he never ever heard of the word customer service. I am not very demanding as long as things are ok. I understand things might go wrong sometimes but there are just too many things going wrong at this place. While we tried to come to an agreement with the so called manager of this place, an older man as well as another lady walked to the reception to file a complaint as well. The man had problems with his room and the lady complained about the rats in the breakfast facility. The manager yelled at both of them and told them to leave his hotel. After arguing with him for a while, he told us that he would not have a room for guests like us - we left the place. Before we had to fill in a complaint sheet to reveice the money bach. I will give the case to the credit card company to claim my money back because I am not sure if they will really refund anything at all. We found another hotel in Kensington - after spending Saturday morning arguing with a completely nasty hotel manager and sitting in an internet café to look for another place to stay. We wanted to have a nice, relaxing weekend instead the whole Friday night and Saturday morning were spent dealing with a bunch of problems the Ascot Hotel caused us! Luckily the hotel we then stayed in was wonderful - nice staff, great rooms, customer service, an excellent breakfast.

I can only tell you: DO NOT STAY THERE!!! DO NOT BOOK ANYTHING THERE! It is a complete rip off! You want to enjoy your stay and not argue with a yelling hotel manager. Find some other place - there are nicer hotels which are not that expensive in London. Even a cheap hostel is better than this place! Stay away from it, do not loose your money to those people! The authorities should take care of this and I will write to them to see spread the word! If you have stayed there and experienced something similar, please write there as well to save other London tourists from that place and that manager!!!
Be aware! This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in...

Top Local Tips for London

Getting back from Leicester Square If you're out really late and the underground is closed, a taxi should only cost about £20 (although finding an official one might be difficult). Don't walk back. It's fairly safe but is just too far too walk. I think there's a night bus (23) that runs near the hotel. There's a Sainsburys Food store at Paddington railway station also if need cheap ishfood.

comfort bring good walking shoes

Vegetarian dining around Baker Street Visit Eat and Two Veg. Crackign Sunday lunch there too.
