Horrible bed, good location

It wasn't fun. I've never been less comfortable in a hotel bed, including generic travelodge/motel 6-type places when I had to get a place to sleep for the night at the last minute. Considering the much greater than $100 / night for an efficiency where the cleaning staff will only clean the room once during the week (and don't speak even enough English to ask when the room will be cleaned), it's the worst value for a room I've ever experienced.
Almost every ammenity available advertised by the hotel is a considerable charge extra - no bargains here.
The shower settings were either painful or tepid - there as nothing like a good shower to be had.
After spending day after day walking and tubing around London, the least I expect is a good shower and a comfortable bed. I've had better at the cheapest hotel taken at the last moment near Newark Airport (for $80).
They can try to sell you on location; I find it difficult to believe there's more demand on rooms than outside a major airport or in Manhattan (where one can still rough it, with good planning, in an apartment hostel (that's with an 's') for less than $80).
Location: good neighborhood, walking distance to lots of great architecture and museums, a tube stop away from a lot, 2 to 8 tube stops away from much of what a basic tourist in London would want access to. So that was good.
But there have to be better choices....
As for being a Gay traveller (as I've identified), it was pretty much as neutral and non-judgemental as I'd hoped, but I didn't feel particularly welcome, which was strange in a major city considering how near-by neighborhoods with an open Gay presence are.
