Top Local Tips for London
London Pass Because we purchased it prior to our arrival, it motivated us to only attend the events and dine in the restaurants which were free or gave us a discount. These were places we may not have gone to otherwise. Such as lunch at the Orangery at Kensington Palace - what a lovely British thing to do... they offered lunch and tea. Very nice. Also, the National Portrait Gallery exhibit. What a surprising gem that was.... as we went searching for it, we ended up in the middle of the Gay Pride parade - talk about entertaining. The pass included transport including the Docklands and we found ourselves riding the ferry a few times. Nothing like floating the Thames on a sunny day. We also went to Wagamama and Thai Square both had great food and the pass gave us a significant discount on the bill. The best was the Shakespeare Globe. I would have never visited normally, and our short and informative tour was in the middle of a dress rehearsal for a new play!
Oyster Card If you're staing for an extended period i.e. more than a month, the Oyster card is the most economical way of getting around London
