The apartment was reminiscent of a 1970's bedsit. The overwhelming smell of damp on entering the apartments did not bode well and on entering the room the first thing I noticed was that the net curtains were held in place by a safety pin. The phone in the room was faulty in that you had to press certain numbers several times before they registered, which made telephone calls a time consuming and frustrating business. The former was rectified after a week, the latter was not rectified during my 2 week stay. All in all not conducive to a pleasant stay. The bare essential items of cutlery, plates, pan etc had all seen better days (in the 70s or possibly earlier?). Clearly the assumption is that you're not going to cook - only one very small pan is supplied, the one sharp knife is not sharp and indeed had several bits gouged out of the blade. However, for me the whole point was to have somewhere that I could cook. In such a tiny place with such poor utensils this proved impossible. The blurb states that there is a laundry facility close to the apartments, and indeed gives the impression that this might even be on site. This turns out to be a launderette which is 10 minutes walk away and which has now closed down - so basically they are claiming to provide a service which no longer exists. So, while I would definitely use Lastminute.com again, I can in no way recommend Astons Apartments - the only upside is the location.

Gloucester Road Station a Few Blocks Away The Gloucester Road tube station is a safe and quick walk from the apartment and can be used to relatively cheaply move throughout the city.

finding out what's going on in london visit timeout.com online prior to your trip. then pick up a copy at the airport when you arrive. this is for people who have been to london on numeorus occassions and for young people as well.

Buy an oyster card If you buy an oyster card for zones 1 and 2 for 24.95 pds...you'll find the convenience for travel around London superb. We added an extra 5 pds to ours in case we went outside the zones of 1 and 2 which we did not, however we did use on day seven for the last few trips around London. It ran out on the day we were taking a taxi to the airport (only 11.00 pds from Kensington area to Victoria Station) I highly recommend a taxi (black one)...it's fast and efficient and you don't have to drag your cases around the tube to get to Victoria station. We took the Gatwick express (booked online) to the airport from there....whole trip took less than an hour from our hotel to the airport.
