Trying Harder
Staff nonchalant but ok, decor ok, food beautifully presented but bore little resemblance to what was on the menu. Much more enjoyable than stopping at a Little Chef on the way back from Eastbourne - maybe worth it if you like medieval carverys - looked OK and better value than our a la carte meals.

Did a great job!
The Halland Forge Hotel did a super job hosting our mum's 100th birthday dinner this month -- over 40 guests and everyone left pleased and satisfied with both service and food. The latter was excellent (from the various comments), generous portions and service was good as well as unobtrusive. The room was well set-up and accommodated us comfortably.
The only concern were some communications "glitches" beforehand although these did not affect the party. However if one is planning a large event here, just be sure to always speak to the person in charge of such arrangements and to check beforehand that all is in order. (Which we did and caught one problem). However this sort of thing is par for most larger gatherings.

Wot a Dump!
Quite the worst hotel I have ever stayed in! Room was filthy when we checked in - loo covered in urine and pubic hair, rubbish in bin and toe nails on carpet! Staff all East European and extremely unhelpful with no English spoken(apparently!). No towels, TV wire dangerous, lock hanging off room door. Said they couldn't give us another room, and as they had my credit card details and it was late in the day, we were reluctant just to leave. Floors and walls very thin - occupant of room above paid a visit to loo in early hours and we could hear EVERYTHING. Brekfast wasn't too bad but plates and glasses weren't too clean. So far no ill effects but think this is more down to good constitutions rather than good cooking..... Avoid this place like the plague!

Excellent
I found the rooms were very well decorated, and very pleasant. The food in the restaurant was excellent, and at a good price. A definite recommendation!
