Good location but not so good rooms!

This hotel is in a good location in a nice leafy road, but the rooms are far from up to scratch - first I was given a tiny room (over looking the noisey boiler outlet), and it was in fact the smallest hotel room I have ever stayed in - I then asked to be moved to a larger (and quieter) room but this was very very shaby and had no shower, just a bath. The breakfast was very good and the staff were friendly enough but I certainly would not stay in this hotel again - NOT value for money!

A Charming delightful hotel - a must!!!

Firstly, everyone has their very own unique perspective on hotel accommodations and experiences. I however, loved the Belmont, and can quite honestly say, having once upon a time lived in Leicester, and having knowledge of it's hotel accommodations, would recommend this location above any other for those visiting the city for business or pleasure.

This is a prime location for site seeing, within walking distance of the railway station, close the the Universities, provides ample parking and within a short walking distance to the city centre.

As someone who has traveled the world over - I do feel that if you had a bad experience at this hotel you should complain instantly and give the management a chance to make amends and if those amends are not good enough complain until you get the service you have paid for??? I am sure we all could complain about every hotel we have stayed in - but let's face it - we all have bad days, things slip through the cracks - and at the end of the day - there are peoples jobs at risk. Complain on the spot!!!

Don't let the negative reviews put you off trying this location. Check on the Cherry Restaurant, have a cocktail and drink in the scenery!!!

Unprofessional, Un-organised and no staff commiunication

My partener and I stayed at the Belmont House, only booking as they were a member of Best Western, and I work for a hotel who is in the same chain, knowing that to be a member of Best Western there are certain standards to be met - and lord only knows how they pass their annual inspection. I was embarrassed to be associated with the chain after staying here.
Firstly, we arrived at the hotel, and were quite impressed, the building looked old but with character, and the surroundings were just beautiful.....however, once we got inside things turned for the worst! We waited at desk to be checked in....and waited....and waited.....then a "not very happy" receptionist came to the desk and just looked at us.....hmmm, ok, I told her we had a reservation and the name it was under....ok, thats fine she replied in a drone of a voice, someone really didnt want to be at work that day! So, we signed the reg slip, and were given our key and a mumbling of directions to the room.....needless to say we could have done with a map as the corridors are long, narrow and all look the same, with lack of decent lighting and signage to help us on our way! Ah....eventually we found the room, couldnt wait to get inside...or could we? Asmentioned before by another tripadvisor user, no chairs (well, we actually had one, but was prone wo wobbling so never got used), the bed was ok but the top throw-overs could have done with washing! The walls needed painting, and the net curtains could have done with a spruce up, but all in all, it had everything we needed, a decent size, and not a bad bathroom. We ate out, came back, slept (quiet peacefully may I add!), and woke up ready for our early start and the breakfast we had ordered previously to be at our room at 6.45am, it came on time, with a young waiter who looked quite shocked that I answered the door in my nightie!! It was an ok breakfast for a continental. So we went out for the day (attending a car show at the local airfield), we returned to the hotel at approximately 5/6pm, and went up to our room to find the key card wouldnt open the door, so we went back to reception, and a young man (possibly the manager) re-programmed it for us. So, back up to the room we went, shock-horror!!!! the room had not been serviced at all - the breakfast tray was still there, bed un made, no clean towels etc. So I sent my other half down to the desk to complain, someone came to collect the tray but no beds were made, no clean towels offered or no explanation. So, we stayed that night, not very happy of course, next morning, went to check out, were charged two nights accommodation, which was correct, no apology was offered, even when I said again about the room not being serviced, she said there was an error with the reservation and they thought we were due to check out - so explain the clothes left in the wardrobe and other personal belongings all over the room!!!!! So, we paid and left!
But thats not the end! On the drive home we received a phone call from my boss (the owner of another best western hotel i work for), she was not happy, as she'd had a phone call from the Belmont House to say that I had left the hotel with out paying!!!! So my boss paid for one nights accommodation, thinking that a member of her staff had done a runner from a hotel!!!!! Shame the receptionist forgot to mention to me that my boss had paid for one night, and i had paid for two nights, and we only stayed two nights!! I still havent received an apology, and the Belmont Hotel rang my hotel to tell them I had been unreasonable over the phone with their manager, are they suprised after their unprofessionalism??? My boss was eventually refunded and i have lived down the embarrassment and shame. Needless to say, we WONT EVER return to this hotel again.

I have now had the opportunity to investigate this lengthy complaint which was with some difficulty as the guest had stayed with us in May 2005!
1/ Our records showed the original booking was for one night (this could ,of course, have been our error)
2/Room was not serviced as we assumed the guset had departed without paying and vacant rooms on a sunday are often left unserviced if not required that evening.
3/ The "bosses" credit card was refunded when the guest returned hence the guest still owed us for two nights on departure.
4/The guest was offered a change of rooms when mistake was discovered.
5/Our rooms are located on two floors and are very clearly signed from the stairs and the lifts.
6/ I am appalled that a fellow hotel employee would write this sort of review without any contact with the Hotel.

I hope that any prospective customers of the Belmont would treat the comments with the sceptisism it deserves.

Pretty good

Stayed here for 1 night. Rooms are decent with a large bathroom although there was an element of furniture olympics to get from one side of the room to the other!. Quiet when I was there and breakfast was also good with a good choice. Free parking, 2 min walk from Railway station.

Worst food ever

I have stayed in this hotel twice now, last time I had duck in the restaurant and the sauce was like glue, it was vile. This time I thought I would just grab a burger in the bar and it was a bun with a dried meat patty in between, nothing else, unbelievable !! I have travelled and eaten out a lot and I can comfortably say this hotel serves the worst burger I have ever had anywhere.

The hotel is tired and the rooms are very basic with pretty 2nd hand facilities. This hotel should be about £30 a night two star rather than whatever it is.

Just to cap it off their heating system reverberates throughout the hotel adding that nice generator noise touch to the night time ambience when you are trying to sleep.

I will not be returning to this hotel, despite it being by far the most convenient location for my trips to Leicester, I will go out of my way to stay somewhere else. They are grossly overpriced for the extremely indifferent services and facilities offered.

It is a great shame that if customers have a genuine problem during their stay that they do not take it up with the Duty Manager during the stay and not some weeks afterwards on a website. This would then give the hotel an opportunity to make amends for any shortcomings at the time and not leave with such a poor impression after the stay as it appears in this instance.

Have stayed in this hotel some 5 or 6 times over last three years.

It is composed of about four old town houses knocked together. So few rooms are the same size, few corridors are either straight or flat,wooden floors creak and the inside is rather dark. And the central heating is either hot or off.

Room decor and furnishing is so out of date it might even be becoming fashionable again.Look out for mattresses that go"bong"as you turn over,TVs so low on the floor you cannot see them from the bed (no chairs of course),mirrors in bathrooms set so low you have to bend double to shave.

It all depends. If you like this kind of thing -fine.If I am travelling on business ,I would rather have the faceless efficiency of the chain hotel;totally dependable.

But it has some positive points. It certainly has character , has a great conservatory and looks out over a lovely mini park.Most things work. The water is warm,there are cupboards to put your clothes and two lifts to carry the suitcases.And some staff are friendly

Breakfast is fine;otherwise best to visit one of the many good Indian restaurants within easy walking distance. Very handy for the University and the train Station.Not very handy for much else.

But really most of the hotel could do with a really good renovation.Or much lower prices

I was offered and accepted an early check-in at 11:00am when I arrived and asked if I could leave my bags. I was able to do this because the room was ready presumably not used the previous night.

Nice Place, Service Not Quite There

Although it's slightly off the beaten path, but convienent for my stay, the Belmont House is a beautiful place. The room was not large, but tidy and and enjoyable. My only complaint was that I arrived a mere hour before official check-in (after an all-night flight from Los Angeles and a drive from Heathrow) and was denied early check-in, even though the hotel was clearly not busy. As this is not a budget hotel, it seemed to me that this bit of hospitality should have been forthcoming, given the circumstance.

Food I didnt stay for an evening meal but heard good things from those who did. If the quality of the breakfast is anything to go by then it will be of a high standard

Curve Theatre coming soon Have picked up a leaflet about this new theatre in Leicester which is opening soon - it looks incredible and very modern.

Great place Try out the new shopping centre with a fabulous John Lewis and the cinema looks great too.
