Pleasantly Surprised

After reading some reviews of this hotel I arrived with mixed feelings on what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised. Our room was clean and bed was comfortable. Good choice of food at mealtimes and dining room staff were pleasant and very efficient in clearing tables. Only complaint to make - it would have been much nicer to have had a pot of tea at breakfast, not tea bag and hot water. Some people may have wanted more choice at mealtimes but you get what you pay for and I thought we had excellent value for what we paid. Well done to all the staff.

Call in the "Grime Fighters"

Having travelled from Scotland and looking forward to a relaxing stay at the Quality Hotel i was disgusted to find hairs in the bath and a room which needed cleaned from top to bottom: it was covered in inches of dust.I am Asthmatic and the dust in the room triggered an attack and i had to check out.I asked to speak with a manager however none was available and i checked out and went to another hotel. I was still charged for my stay and breakfast and the receptionist was not concerned in the slightest about my Asthma (fortunately i had both my inhalers with me) nor the unhygenic conditions and offered no room alternative nor to have the one i was in, room 123 inspected nor cleaned. Time to call in the "Grime Fighters" and i certainly do not recommend this hotel.

My daughter 3 young boys and myself recently travelled up to Leeds from Surrey to treat the boys to a Leeds United game(they are Leeds mad). We arrived earlier than expected but it was no problem to the hotel - they let us drop off our bags even though the room wasn't quite ready. Brian on reception was great with the boys, and couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. The hotel might need a bit of an update from the outside but our room was very clean and the bed linen spotless,(and i am fussy!). The bathroom was also spotless. The swimming pool was great for entertaining the boys when we got back from the match. We shall definitely book this again when we next come up to Leeds. The friendy staff made our overnight stay great and the boys had a brilliant time - even if Leeds did lose!

Having stayed in a Quality Hotel in Chester and having a thoroughly enjoyable time, I decided it would be nice to go Selby Fork with my mother and Grandmother for thier 'special mother's day meal'. Luckily the main course carvery was nice (although we did have to wait several minutes for Yorkshire puddings), but unfortunately the service left much to be desired. The menu was very limited and the starters and desserts were very disappointing. When we wanted to order more drinks the waitress was nowhere to be seen, and nobody told us that we should help ourselves to the carvery and desserts. In fact, the waitresses barely said a word to us during the entire duration of the meal, and they even handed us a bill at the end that had not been added up to show the total.

Upon reading the local newspaper the day after the meal, we were disappointed to find that we could have had the carvery for £4.95 as opposed to our 'special' meal for £15 each. This means that we paid and extra £10.05 each for an unappetising starter and dessert, and one small box of chocolates as a special 'gift' that was just placed on the table without a word, even though it was obvious there were two mothers on the table.

In all, the hotel looked nice but I would not return to the restaurant.

Top Local Tips for Leeds

York We used the Park and Ride at the Mall. It was outstanding. We met a senior citizen (they ride the buses for free) who gave us wonderful directions, and actually took us to the Shambles, and showed us how to walk the walls around the city. We toured York Minster, and had a wonderful day. Do not drive into York - the park and ride system is excellent, even for foreign tourists like ourselves.

Silvanos york If you visit york for the day on a sunday have lunch at silvanos opposite the exit of the york dungeons. Its £7.95 for three courses and coffee and it was amazing food for the money!
