Special hotel in beautiful setting
We booked the hotel despite almost being put off by some of the reviews. Go to the Wasdale Head Inn if you appreciate old buildings with flag floors, oak furniture, real fires, good food and lots of hot water for deep baths. Great choice in beer and wines. A group of ten much travelled friends + dog loved it.

Not Family Friendly
Stopped for lunch with 2 other families. Immediately told by staff it was an 'adult' pub and that the children must be kept quiet. Proceeded to lecture all the children about the consequences of making noise... eldest in group was 4 years old! Food was of average/poor quality considering the price. Gents loo has seen better days!

Awesome
The bar is the best around, definitely worthy of the Cumbria Pub Of The Year. The Barmaid kept us entertained and the craic was fantastic, apart from the weather (which the staff can't be blamed!) we had the best weekend I’ve ever had in the Lake District.

Disappointing
Went with a pal who recalled the place's part in English climbing history - thought we might stay a couple of nights next year. Unhelpful staff on reception, totally uninterested in showing us the place, definite them and us air about 'residents' and the rest, dirty and neglected gents toilet, rather poor bar food. The one good feature was the selection of ales. Overall, very disappointing and seeming to live on past glory and local monopoly.

Excellent weekend
This hotel is welcoming, the staff friendly and helpful and the service especially quick and efficient. The hotel caters for both mountain walkers (in the bar) and those staying on the premises (comfortable lounge and dining room).Bar food is generous and of a high quality and the breakfast, though pricey, so filling that lunch is hardly necessary. Cordon Bleu cookery in the dining room is excellent and our party celebrated a member's 60th birthday in style, his name and bithday wishes printed on the menu - a nice touch.
