Wow were do I start. Location beautiful!Hotel, owners Van and Barry(not forgetting little Damon)are the most friendliest, nicest, kindest people we have ever met. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Bar so warm and cosy. Food was fantastic with a choice of both veggie and vegan meals. The hubby not being a veggie loved the food and didn't think twice about eating else where. The food was amazing, so fresh and tasty, you wouldn't want to eat anywhere else. Ok there was one down fall! We didn't stay longer, we have stayed in alot of hotels up and down the the country and this is the best. Can't wait to return. Thank you Van,Barry,Damon and staff for a great time.

Wow what can I say or were do I start. Location, beautiful. Hotel, rooms lovely, clean and bright. The bar cosy and warm with a lovely coal fire. The food was amazing with a large variety of both veggie and vegan meals. The food was so tasty that my husband not being a veggie couldn't wait to get back for the evening meal. Me being a vegan the food was so fantastic. The breakfast was lovely and left you satisfyingly full. Van and Barry (not forgetting little Damon!)have got to be the most friendliest, nicest people we have ever meet(and we have stay in a lot of hotels). Nothing was to much trouble they made you feel so welcome. The only one down fall. We didn't stay longer. Can't wait to return. Thank you for such a wonderful stay. Oh almost forgot the dogs were made so welcome as well.

The Heights is a wonderful place to stay. The location is superb, with walks on your doorstep and just a short distance from Keswick itself.
The rooms are always clean and well maintained. The food there is excellent. The breakfasts are great -food and service. The evening meals can be taken in the dining area or bar/pub, which has a roaring fire and cosy seats. There is a selection of dishes ranging from lasagna, cottage pie, to Chinese dishes.
Above all, the owners are extremely warm and friendly. This makes it such a lovely place to return to after a long day over wonderful walks around the lakes.
We have been there 2 years in a row, and I hope we will visit year after year.

This year marked our second stay and thankfully we were just as satisfied as last year round. What makes the Heights for us is the location (beautiful views, especially from the cosy bar & just a stone's throw from Keswick and Derwentwater), the food (lovely to find somewhere that caters so well for vegetarians) and maybe most of all the warm welcome. Barry and Van really care about what they do and it shows. Non-vegetarians need not worry as food is hearty and filling. Perhaps some of the rooms are a bit old-fashioned but that didn't bother us a bit! Our room was bright, spacious and spotlessly clean. That's good enough for me. I've stayed in lots of B&Bs around Britain and I can honestly say the Heights is my favourite. We wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else in the Lake District.

Positives:
+ Superb location, wonderful views, lovely garden
+ Very friendly and welcoming owners
+ Cosy bar
+ Pleasant, clean bedroom
Negatives:
- En suite bathroom needs updating
- Vegetarian-only menu is restrictive(but excellent non-veggie meals can be had next door)
- Candlewick throw-overs on the lounge sofas are a no-no!
Overall: a modest hotel, nice, but could be better - constant improvement necessary.

Barry & Van have now found their feet at this hotel, which we've visited every few weeks since about 2000. We were a bit dubious about the veggie Chinese food to start with, but the quality is such that we're sure everyone will enjoy it - veggie or not. The rooms are basic, but always very clean (Thanks Min!) and the views are stunning. Barry & Van are people who can't do enough to help and please and they deserve to be given a chance to prove just how good this place is under their ownership. We wholeheartedly recommend you try the Heights and see for yourself. Gill & Greg were a hard act to follow, but we'll still be making our regular trips. That tells you all you need to know - all our early doubts have been put to rest!

Finding good vegetarian food, providing plenty of choice, is pretty difficult in this country, either in restaurents or hotels. I was, therefore, pleased to find the Heights when searching the web to arrange a business trip to Keswick. My wife came along for the trip and we enjoyed superb vegetarian/vegan food in a pleasent hotel run by an extremely friendly couple doing there best to provide something special for those of us who don't eat meat. I immediatly booked for another business trip 2 weeks later and enjoyed that just as much. Regrettably, business won't take me back to Keswick for some time, but my wife and I will be back to the Heights in the spring to enjoy the place, and the company, without the distraction of work!
By the way, the views are spectacular!

My husband and I spent 2 nights at The Heights during a business trip, and will definitely be returning. We were made very welcome by the couple that run it, and fed the most wonderful home cooked vegetarian food, including excellent Chinese options that I heartily recommend. The owners were friendly, helpful and enthusiastic about their relatively new venture of running a vegetarian hotel. They also openly invited feedback and suggestions. The tariff was extremely reasonable as were the menu prices. We didn't expect The Ritz and we didn't get it, but we did get good food, good company and the pleasure of an entirely veggie environment, not to mention incredible views!

I stayed at the Heights for 4 days. Nice people, friendly and hospitable. The room was clean and well furnitured. And then the pub: well done! A vegetarian, non smoking pub (and a smoking part as well). For that you must be brave! Get there in time for dinner, otherwise all places are occupied, good food! Try it. Hope to go there again.

This Hotel was a regular for us, and although it had some Fawlty Towers moments, still had the charm, great food and superb bar you'd associate with a good hotel. Zero investement, miniscule breakfast proportions, a bizarre vegetarian Chinese menu, and awkwardness in the ownerÂ’s attitude made it a memorable stay for all the wrong reasons. 2006 would have been a year of people booking again automatically. Staying nearby this year (2007), we saw it was virtually the only place in Keswick with a 'Vacancies' sign in the window. Unless these owners have a huge pot of money, I suspect it will be under new ownership next year.
