I stayed at the Heights for 4 days. Nice people, friendly and hospitable. The room was clean and well furnitured. And then the pub: well done! A vegetarian, non smoking pub (and a smoking part as well). For that you must be brave! Get there in time for dinner, otherwise all places are occupied, good food! Try it. Hope to go there again.
A quick and easy way to go out of business...

This Hotel was a regular for us, and although it had some Fawlty Towers moments, still had the charm, great food and superb bar you'd associate with a good hotel. Zero investement, miniscule breakfast proportions, a bizarre vegetarian Chinese menu, and awkwardness in the owner's attitude made it a memorable stay for all the wrong reasons. 2006 would have been a year of people booking again automatically. Staying nearby this year (2007), we saw it was virtually the only place in Keswick with a 'Vacancies' sign in the window. Unless these owners have a huge pot of money, I suspect it will be under new ownership next year.
Nice hotel and friendly owners

This hotel has completely changed but only for the better the food is brilliantly cooked and well served, the owners are very friendly and are nice to talk with also the bar area is sorted with a variety of drinks to choose from overall I would say this is a very nice hotel with local walks and places to explore I believe the new Chinese menu will be a different and change some peoples opinions but the food in my opinion the food in cases tastes better than real meat, I will be coming back for sure some-time in the near future.
Very poor

After a number of Easter's spent at The Heights, 2006 will be our last. The hotel is under new ownership. Gone are the hearty traditional meals, replaced with vegetarian chinese fayre, for evening meals, and vegetarian options for breakfast (think plastic bacon). The menu is very limited, the food appallingly cooked (boiled egg that poured onto the plate)and presented. The service is poor, and the whole place has the smell of your local chinese take away. I cannot see this business continuing in this format.
Under previous ownership we could forgive the fact that this hotel has not been upgraded for many years. Its location, good food and cheap price was adequate compensation. Unfortunately, this is no longer the case. A new B&B awaits us for Easter 2007. We will not return to the Heights.
