WE DON'T CARE IF OUR GUESTS DONT COME BACK

As a vegetarian, I was offered half a tomato, an egg and some toast as my 'vegetarian breakfast', bearing in mind that I'd paid the same to stay as my group of friends, who all received a large full cooked breakfast. When I questioned it, the non-English speaking waiting staff couldnt understand my request so they sent out "Scary Mary" the extremely RUDE, OBNOXIOUS AND FRANKLY UNHOSPITABLE manageress. She may even have been the proprietor.

To explain, we were a group of professional people, in our 30s, 40s and 50s, all on a quiet walking weekend but the moment we arrived, she took an instant dislike to our party, snapping at us when we ordered our (over-priced) evening meal, and snarling that we were keeping up her other guests, whilst we were chatting quietly in one of the lounge areas after dinner.

We booked on the basis that the hotel had a bar, and we wouldn't have to drive in order to have a drink in the evenings, and we'd been told that the bar would stay open "as long as you wanted it to". Well, one evening we returned particularly late from a long walk and a long drive, which meant we arrived back at the hotel at about 10.30.

We then waited at the bar for approximately 15 minutes whilst Scary Mary finished a personal call (very Sybil Fawlty) and when she finally deigned to acknowledge us, she snapped that the bar was now shutting as it was late and refused to serve us. We explained that we had been waiting for 15 mins and that it was still only 10.45 - not even pub closing hours - and that we'd been told the bar was open to residents as long as they wanted it to. She refused to even consider it.

It was patently obvious that this rude and unpleasant woman had taken an instant dislike to our party, because we were a mixed group, and that she had assumed we would be noisy, before we even arrived there. However, we are a group of intelligent, professional people who stay in many hotels, and have never experienced anyone like her!

It's a lovely hotel, but she spoils it for everyone. She speaks to her (foreign) staff like dirt and she treated us the same way.

I hope she's no longer there, as I would never recommend the hotel, as long as she was running it.

When we left, one of our party, who has worked as a customer services manager in a large corporate environment, as well as many other senior positions and is now a head teacher, explained politely that our stay could have been made a lot more pleasant and we'd be more likely to return if we had been treated more like their other paying guests, and Scary Mary's reply was that she didn't care if her guests didn't return again as they were always busy anyway.

I think she's in the wrong career... obviously not cut out for the service industry.

Well were do I start...what a waste off money. The bar area was old and dirty. The service was poor. At breakfast you could hear the chef shouting at staff. You could tell that the staff wasn't happy. My bedding was dirty and when I asked them to change it, they just tuted and said give me 10 minutes as I'm setting the restaurant up for breakfast. This was at 10.30 pm. The food in the evening was awful. There was no taste to it and waited 30 minutes for it. There were cobwebs all around the hotel. I hate to think what the kichen was like. I won't be returning back there.

The hotel is in a great location and a beautiful setting but was ruined by the poor breakfast and lack of cleanliness. The full English breakfast consisted of 1 piece of bacon, 1 sausage, half a tomato, 1 egg and mushrooms which wasn't cooked properly.

We booked 2 rooms which both had different rates, when questioned this couldn't be explained. The radiator in 1 of the rooms didn't work, we mentioned this twice but still this wasn't resolved making the room rather cold. I mentioned this again when checking out and no apology was given.

In all, a little expensive for the service and quality, not worth the money.
