my partner and i called in our way back home just for a couple of nights ...we had a fabulous time except for a group who seemed to moan at everything, they actually spoiled our first night and i think some other guys to.....we spoke to another couple who felt the same way.
We felt really sorry for the staff, these people demanding so much.....Our recommendations.......Rooms.....Food...Friendly staff.......So cannot understand comments made by previous guys who obviously were part of the group we'd encountered
By the way my partner travels alot

Horrible!! Would never go back!!!!!!!

This was the worst Hotel I have ever stayed in! We stayed there for a photography workshop in the Lake District for 5 days. The food was absolutely dire, the staff were unfriendly, rude and uncooperative, 5 of our group sent their meals back in disgust. Whatever you do, don't ask for a pot of coffee AND a tea at breakfast or you will have eyes rolled at you with a huge sigh of inconvenience. We were even asked to pay an extra £1.90 in our 'included' breakfast for a stronger coffee pot, which was incredibly weak! It took 20 minutes to simply checkout, the phone would ring on reception and either they wouldn't answer it, or they would answer it rudely and ask the caller to call back as they were too busy to take the call. Stay anywhere else but here!
Awful Dont Bother!!!

When we arrived at the hotel they did not have our reservation and were most unhelpful! We made a booking months before and when they finally found us they said that they could only put us in a twin room, not what was expected on our anniversary!!!!
We received nothing but hostility and arrogance from the front desk staff who are ambassadors for the hotel and really didnt represent themselves well on what should have been a speecial occasion. which was memorable but for negative reasons and would not recommend this hotel to anyone!

Second time we have stayed at this lovely hotel. Stayed in a refurbished room this time. Staff couldn't be more helpful on reception, on the bar and the waiters/waitresses. The food was out of this world! Would not hesitate to return or recommend this hotel. Hopefully the bar will be finished next time!
lovely location, staff not overly friendly, food terrible !!

lady on reception was ok, not overly friendly or helpful. Room is very large but very old fashioned and strange decor! Room was very cold but heating eventually kicked in.
Pool lovely - locatation perfect if you have a car and want somewhere quiet and peaceful.
certainly not on the edge of a lake like they state though.
main disappoitment was the food.
decided to eat in even thought it was very expensive and what a mistake that was.
food was over cooked, sauce out of a packet, black potatoes, I could go on.
we complained and were told by the general manager that we were the last customer in that evening????
so does that mean we deserved such terrible food.
the next night we tried the local pub in the village - fantastic food, service and price.
nice hotel, great location but just dont eat there!!!

Great Hotel

We stayed at this lovely hotel towards the end of January 2006. The staff were excellent, friendly and catered for our every need. The location and scenery around the area is fantastic, close to three beautiful lakes and the town of Keswick. Although the hotel is looking a little tired, I believe that they are undergoing extensive refurbishment to the hotel and its facilities. We will be back!!+
What a place!!!

We have just returned from what was supposed to be a 'relaxing' weekend away - however I couldn't wait to get home from a hotel that I can only compare to Fawlty Towers!!!
Our first night we were allocated a dark dingy room with dated furniture, this I could have coped with but the bed had springs protuding everywhere that made it impossible to sleep! Adding to this impossibilty were doors banging in the bar below which went on until 4am and the whole bed shaking as people walked past the room in the corridor!!! Naturally we asked to be moved, there were no double rooms so we were allocated a twin room. The beds were slightly better but I still had to use the quilt as an extra mattress to try and disguise the protruding springs!! Noise again was a feature as we found to our peril when the guests in the next room returned and we could hear their activities and conversation!!!
Don't be fooled by the pictures of the plush lobby and the swimming pool! I would not recommend this hotel to anyone as it was a total disappointment.

Great location

On balance this place is now due for some smartening up and tlc. the reception was unwelcoming when we arrived at midday - cannot check in before 2pm was the only response to my "hello, just to say we have arrived and have a reservation". Its a mass of narrow corridors that get choked with smoke. And the room heating needed attention from the management before it would work. The staff in the dining room, and the chef, were friendly and aimed to please. Just a bit mediocre really, when there is so much else to choose from in the area
Nice setting, lousy service

Great location, very scenic. Largish hotel. Appeared modernised. checked in at 18:00 .. nobody around. finally got a room allocated. It was 100yds down a maze of corridors. Room was freezing. Radiator cold. Complained at reception and was told someone would be down. I also asked for ironing board. 45 minutes later still nothing. Went back to reception and the guy followed me back (inc ironing board). Moved 3 rooms to find one warm enough to stay in. Rooms decorated ok .. bit 'old folks nuring home' style. At night bar food excellent. Main restaurant full of old folks on a tour. Hotel almost empty. Arrived for breakfast at 07:45. No-one around. Helped myself and then a chinese guy appeared to tell me to sit in the tour area. told him i was not on the tour. check out was fine, clerk told me that this hotel has Xmas parties on from 1st dec to 7th jan .. so if your looking for quiet .. avoid at that time. Leisure facilities looked great .. but didn't try them.

Excellent Hotel, excellent facillities, excellent location.
Was a bit isolated as you needed the car to travel anywhere but the surrounding views were breathtaking.
