Historical Traveller Reviews of The Chesford Grange Hotel
High price, holes in the sheets, poor service, (nice pool)
from A TripAdvisor MemberMy best recommendation is just don’t do it!
Good hotel for NEC
from A TripAdvisor MemberWe had a special pre-paid B&B rate.
The Room was excellent; large & comfortable - no plasma TV in our room though (reading a previous review). However, everything worked! We had sandwiches in the bar on Saturday afternoon - freshly made - although the food was on the high side price-wise. Bar staff friendly & efficient -
Sunday morning breakfast was extremely busy - all sorts of guests from families with small children, parties and "old" couples (us!). The staff seated us quickly and were very efficent in serving us and topping up coffe cups - even though they were rushed! (Talking to one of the waitresses Sunday morning is always busy.)
Had to queue for the hot breakfast - but OK considering the number of people being served.
My wife used the pool on sunday morning - fairly small but OK.
Less than an hour to the NEC as long as you can get through Kennilworth. There is a good fish & chip shop in Kennilworth that is open up to midnight - we smuggled ours into the hotel.
All in all a good hotel - would go back for our next visit to the NEC.

Great rooms, good food, good service
from RayCathodeThe rooms were great. I was on the 3rd floor and the first thing you notice when you walk in is the 42" plasma TV on the wall! The decor is ultra-modern, lots of tasteful wood panelling, a frosted green glass behind the bed, wooden floors as well as carpets, and spacious area by the window with two chairs and a full length mirror. The bathroom was large, clean, with a great shower/bath and nicely appointed fittings.
The bed was great, really large, on the harder side but that's what I liked about it! I had a great sleep both nights. I was woken at 7.30 each morning by the delivery truck underneath, but as I had to get up anyway it didn't really matter.
We ate in the restaurant the first night, and to be honest with you I didn't have any problems. The service may have been slightly better, from the point of view of remembering who ordered what, but time wise it was fine. The food was very nicely presented, and very tasty. Each course was good. Breakfast was buffet style so its what you make it, don't just sit there waiting to be served. Although I was offered tea/coffee and toast as soon as I say down so that was good.
The bar was OK, only two beers on draught, but some nice corners where you can sit by the fire.
In all I had a positive experience; the bed, TV, decor, shower and food were good enough to keep me happy (and I'm pretty fussy). I'd definitely stay again if I had reason to be in the area.
Nice, but food overpriced
from A TripAdvisor MemberGood corporate hotel
from conferenceprofessionalStandard rooms are modern and smart, but it's really the premium rooms that give an excellent bedroom experience. Food in the hotel's restaurant was fine and the environment pleasant enough.
For leisure travellers, the hotel is close to Warwick, Leamington, Kenilworth and Coventry, so a good location. However, I'm not sure I could imagine myself having a lazy weekend actually in the hotel, it doesn't quite have that cozy comfortable country house feel you may expect.
Staff are friendly.
A good corporate 4* hotel.
Disappointed
from Concorde2003But I was very disappointed. The bar had a large, noisy TV on in the corner which completely detracted from any ambience. I agree wholeheartedly with previous reviewers about the restaurant. It was just huge and impersonal. Our hoped-for special dinner was spoiled as three of the main courses on the menu were unavailable. Breakfast was equally bad in there, we really had to look around hard to attract anyone's attention to get served after we had been seated. It really was not a pleasure.
On checkout I was told my credit card had been rejected. I paid with another, then found later that the bill had been charged to both. Although this was quickly resolved when I queried it, on top of the rest of the experiences I would not return there.
OK alas the Catering section lets this hotel down big time
from ianb67However this hotel needs to seriously look at its catering section. Service in the restaurant is disorganised to say the least, a lot of staff with no co-ordination. What appears to be an interesting menu does not live upto its description of the food.. starters were ok then had to wait an hour for main course in the meantime we were offered the menu for dessert and coffee before the mains had arrived. Wh en they did, totally dissapointing dry and tasteless.. and definately over-priced.. As for Breakfast well the buffett is not the best I have seen and does not compare with lesser star rated hotels I have stayed in. Total chaos with the staff who are responsible for taking orders for toast and tea and coffee. On both mornings I had to chase the staff to get toast and coffee and then they did not check for refills and we were one of 3 tables seated at the time, so not busy. The second morning was the same waited for 30 minutes before any one came that was only after I complained to a disinterested supervisor. When my colleague joined me she waited too and in the end went and helped herself from the section station to tea. Overall this hotel has a captive audience due to its rural location which is great for a quiet weekend break but if you have no car then you are trapped. The bar menu did not do any better...Overall food is over priced over cooked with no customer service.
Look out for the chambermaid staff who appear to have no room to take breaks and sit out in the main corridor for their tea break!!
I lodged all these concerns to the Duty Manager on checking out ( Who did not appear at all surprised but listend patiently and made notes) and await to see if I receive any acknowledgment from the hotel management.
This hotel belongs to what appears to be a new hotel chain - QHotels I only hope the Q is not for Quality... I will try and avoid this chain in the future unless they can improve.
Nice Location, Poor Food/Bar
from kgmcgukI tried to complain but struggled to find any on the nar staff who spoke english.
Won't be rushing back.....
Top Local Tips for Kenilworth
Lots to do and see in the area There are many places to see and lots of things to do in and around the area. Kenilworth is a beautiful area heaving with history. Very close to Stratford and Warwick. A great place to stay for tourists.
Nicolini's in Leamington Spa near kenilworth We ate at Nicolini's, friendly staff, nice atmosphere, good food - and an amazing sweet that had espresso and liquor in it - highly recommended. We spent £70.00ish for 2 starters, 2 mains, one sweet, 4 limoncellos, a bottle of rose wine and bottle of sparking water….which was pretty good value really!
Eat a Diment Book early but great food and service.
