Very Well Managed Hotel

Having stayed at more than one Shearings hotel I can declare this to be one of the best. Yes, internally it needs a coat of paint in places, and it's not 5-star (but you know that when you book), but it's a delight to stay here. The staff are friendly and everything runs like clockwork. The food is better than average and entertainment 1st class (except, maybe the compere should stick to compering - rather than cabaret). Thanks for a great week - we'll be back to this ideally-located Hotel.

Have recently stayed at this hotel for a short break with my parents.Enjoyed myself even though I was one of the youngest there. I have been to lots of hotels around the world, but you cant better England. Excellent waiter Martin, couldn't do enough for us. Room kept clean and tidy. All staff appear happy in their jobs, and this comes across.you need to do some thing with the Restaurant Manager as said in previous messages she is very unkept, hair not tied back, and no jacket, what does this say about back of hotel,if front staff look like this.certainly not a professional look.

Weekend break With Gran

My gran and I recently spent a long weekend at this hotel, even though I was the youngest there I did enjoy myself. The room was clean and tidy, the food hot and well cooked, and the staff all very friendly. We didn't see much entertainment,it was too "Holiday camp" for our liking, the host Mike, was very childish, and tried to dominate each evening, even though there were other acts on,he had to be "top dog",but he definately isn't. Thanks again Sarah and Gran,

Good Value for Money

Myself, and three friends recently stayed at the above hotel. It is only 2 star, but seems much better.Clean tidy and lovely staff. As self drives,we had the option of going on the Shearings Coach trips, which we did a couple of times,Thank you to Driver Eric. Most evenings we sat in the quiet lounge talking to new found friends. The only down side,The Restaurant desperately needs a new Manager,it needs a good shake up and a good deep clean,(my wife is a retired Hotel Manager)and wouldn't employ the lady you have. Overall a well enjoyed break.

outdated rooms

On arrival we were surprised at the pre-hostoric lift which resembled the lift in the film titanic. Things didn't improve when we viewed our room. It was very outdated and had a sink in the bedroom and not in the bathroom!! The window was the size of a mirror, the second room we were offered was just as bad. Eventually we settled for the third room we were offered, which was of the same standard as the others, poor!! The bathroom had advacardo suite which was disgusting. I had to buy bleach and rubber gloves and clean it on my first day there. The loo brush still had some reminders of the previous guests! The mirror in the room had never seen a duster, the lampshade on the bedside lamp was peeling! The resturaunt staff were very pleasant and hard working, but understaffed, as we had to wait a long time inbetween courses! This hotel needs alot of money spending on it to bring it upto date. Would we stay here again? Not a chance. I can stay home here and clean... You have been warned.

My wife and I usually holiday in South America, our main holiday was taken early in the year so we booked a short break in the Dilkhusa in June 2009.We enjoyed our stay that much so we had a second short break in September 2009. The all inclusive package is just very good value for money. In our 2 visits the staff have all been very pleasant and friendly. The restruant is very well run and the chef has portion control down to a fine art. There is always a choice of dishes to take in all tastes and in our 2 stays we have not had a bad meal. The rooms are basic with most facilities being available, the stairways and coridors could be described as interesting - good exercise but there is a lift. The bar staff are like the rest of the staff, pleasant and helpfull We have never been ones for evening entertainment but everyone seems to enjoy whats on offer along with the free bar Overall the hotel is basic but in a lovely location in Ifracombe.Any critisisms of the hotel are more than offset by the good points.I will be going back to the Dilkhusa for a good many more times

Not long been back from this hote, staying on a self drive holiay. The hotel does need some TLC in places, but it is clean, tidy and well run in an excellent position on the level seafront, which suited my wife as she walks with sticks. The manager kindly arranged a basket of fruit to be in our room on arrival as we were celebrating our anniversary, this was a very nice touch. All staff very friendly, kind and helpful. The only down side was the appearance of the Restaurant Manager, she never wore a jacket, tie or make up and looked too much like her staff only scruffier, come on Shearings, tidy her up.That said we have booked again for 2010.

I recently took my grandson for a short break at the Dilkhusa Grand Hotel. The staff were lovely and looked after us both very well. The chef cooked some special meals for Sam as he wouldn;t always eat what was on the menu. The only downside was the entertainment manager, mike, who would insist on telling rude jokes, even though there was achildren in the room, very unproffessional. The other acts were very good. thank you.

Lovely coach holiday

My wife and I enjoyed our recent holiday at The Dilkhusa Grand Hotel In Ilfracombe.Arrived by coach driven by a lovely driver called John,Allocated a low floor room near the lift as requested, bright, airy and clean.Well looked after in the Dining Room by Jamie, food hot and plenty of choice and quantity.Restaurant Manager left a lot to be desired, very scruffy and off hand, her staff were lovely though. Each evening we spent a couple of hours in the Ballroom watching the different acts, didn't think much of the host,Mike,a wanabe entertainer who failed, overall a lovely holiday and will certainly return,Thank you. Phillip and Tracy.
