Spend the money for another place!
from sandye88Typical Airport Hotel
from markjtnetNot sure how it happened but when I stepped out of the lift I had somehow ended up in the 70's. The hallways weren't too clean and finding my room reminded me of the channel 4 program The Crystal Maze. The room itself was fine for me for a one night stay but I wouldn't want to stay any longer or with a young family.
The room was very basic; Bed, bench seat, open wardrobe and TV. I should mention that the TV only had the basic five channels which I find amazing considering Freeview! The bathroom was fine but the tub was small and the shower pipe was damaged. The room itself was clean but had a strange odour which was either cheap air freshener or dead pigeon.
My only grumble with the room was the temperature. I'm fussy and I like to be cool when I sleep but the room was quiet hot, even for frosty March. Opening the window didn't really help and isn't advisable considering the constant noise from the airport.
I followed the other reviewer's advice and nipped down to the Holiday Inn for dinner. I had Stuffed Mediterranean Chicken when translates to 'stick a slice of pepper in a drumstick, add some fancy carrots and charge £14.' On walking back I noticed the MickyD's and wished I’d eaten there instead of trying to clock up a massive bill on the company card.
The buffet breakfast was probably the worst I have ever eaten. It seemed like the staffs were just throwing more and more cooked food into the trays but there was no one in the restaurant. I would imagine the food I picked up had been there since they opened. The OJ was a strange green colour from one machine and I couldn't find any milk for my tea anywhere.
To be fair, like the other reviewer said, I have paid silly money for airport hotels and have stayed in far worse. The shame is that with very little effort it could be a really good hotel.
Over Priced And Extremely Compact!
from glamatomicAs I'm travelling for a number of months I had a fair amount of luggage and there was no where to put it in the room! The single bed was squashed up against the wall and then I had about 40cm/1ft on the other side and in front of the bed. I had to put my suitcases outside the bathroom door and had to climb over them to get to the bathroom. However I did find this all highly amusing. I actually did laugh when I saw the room for the first time. Definately the smallest hotel room I've ever stayed in! It was smaller than any cabin I've had on a cruise ship as well, so that says it all!
The next morning in the (slow) elevator I was talking to a British Airways pilot who's main issue was the fact that you couldn't turn the heat down in your room and there were no extra pillows.
Breakfast was okay but you had to pay extra for it. The buffet was standard fare though, nothing to write home about. Overall I would go for another hotel next time as the hotel rooms are extremely small and very basic.
Reasonably good
from JWN1942Basic, but clean
from A TripAdvisor MemberService on Reception was very slow and the staffs' English was very basic , which was rather frustrating as they didn't understand me when I asked which 'phone should I use to book a taxi and where were the lifts ... Staff in the bar didn't speak very good English either (didn't understand lager shandy!) and got my order wrong for a panini; I ended up with ham and brie rather than mozarella and tomato (I have severe doubts that the cheese was mozarella, but couldn't be bothered to send it send back a second time, the waiter was convinced it was mozarella ...)
We took the attitude that it was fine for the duration but wouldn't have wanted to be there any longer - ie for a nice leisurely evening and breakfast. We would have tripped over something or each other quite quickly.
The Hoppa service hadn't started for the day when we needed to leave, so used a cab (having booked the previous night and was quoted £8), the taxi was over 10 minutes late. A mini bus turned up and just called out taxi for Terminal 1, picked us up and another couple and charged £8 per couple, which I thought was a bit naughty. I was too tired and anxious about the time to complain.
Mean Mean Ibis
from A TripAdvisor MemberPerfectly OK for putting your head down but don't bother having dinner.
The menu is limited and there seems to be a staffing problem. Cold soup followed by a buffet. Now why do they have such SMALL plates for the main course and yet charge £11.50 for soup followed by a buffet selection.
Big money but small plates.
Fine for a quick stay without dinner.
Worse Than Expected
from NETTSTERAvoid!
from ronneThere was a huge queue at breakfast time and they were not equipped to deal with the large party of tourists staying there (I did feel very sorry for them!). I just had time to throw something down before hitting the road.
There are a lot of other hotels around here so I would suggest trying another one if you need to stay near the airport.
Poor Try Another
from A TripAdvisor MemberWe knew the rooms were basic, but no also dirty!!
In general the hotel is not very clean.
With the emergence of so many new hotels nearby, recommend you choose another!
Horror
from SeasonedTraveler8A/C clicks out soft air. windows cnnot be opened.
No rubber mat in tub. Sign said can request from receptionist. but when called, was told too busy to deliver to room . One must go to desk.
Coffee is dispensed from a machine.probably from powder Coffee after meal time is from Bar. From same type machine, but cost 1.60 Pounds.
Check out time is 12 Noon. Got call from manager at 12:15 to ask if extra night needed. Told "permission" from manager should have been requested. Permission? Perhaps arrangements?
Good point, two ironing boards available on 2nd flloor. This is a no-frill hotel strictly enforced.
Top Local Tips for Hayes
Transport Don't stay here if most of your events are in central London. It takes way over an hour and a bus connection each end. If coming from Heathrow get a bus (free) from T2 central bus station. Buses 111, 105, 140, 555 go to Harlington Corner free whereas the Hoppa Bus H6 costs GBP6
Free local bus to Heathrow, Free New Year's Eve transportation in London We bought 3-day travelcards for London, thinking that would be the way to go. Because the local transportation in the Heathrow area was free and because all London transport was free on New Year's Eve, we really didn't use the card to its maximum value. It was useful for the buses in Central London, but we would have saved money with just the one-day cards. We never used the cards on the third day.
Getting around Get into buses leave from airport as they are free both ways. But the Hotel Hoppa buses are charged at 3 pounds.
