Having just had a nightmare experience of Travelodge, I'd like to warn other people.
I'd made an on-line booking invoice number Harlow North Weald.
The problem began with finding the Hotel as the post code was duly entered into my Tom Tom but despite arriving at the destination there was no sign of any hotel. It was 12.00 at night and raining hard in the middle of nowhere, nobody out in the rain at that time of night and no hotel. Being fairly organised I had with me the printed copy of my booking form and my invoice, but discovered they didn't contain a phone number or even address other than a post code. I called 118 118 and was given a phone number which turned out to be an automated booking line. I called 118 again was given the only other number they had and yet again the same automated booking line. So It's now around 1.00 am I have spent the last hour hunting for this darn hotel, getting wet checking out what turn out to be large private houses, I've no phone number, no one to ask and I'm tired and in the middle of nowhere. I don't know it but it's going to get worse.
By sheer luck I finally spot someone walking in the rain and get good directions from there to travel 1 and a half miles further up the road, then take a right at an island where I'm correctly assured I'll find my travel lodge. Finally I know where the hotel is and in my hurry to get some sleep I'm flashed by a speed camera doing I guess 40 in a 30mph agghh Ok I arrive, I can't find a space to park, it's around 1.30am I'm soaking wet, exhausted and frustrated, I'm told that the post code is a known issue ( although fine with some Sat Navs )and Travel lodge are in talks with the Post Office. I just wonder why they didn't mention this fact on their web site?
Anyhow now for the real bomb shell. I'm told I have no room, because despite booking and paying for it in advance, Travel Lodge have a policy of overbooking their rooms in the hope some people don't turn up. Unluckily for me everyone had turned up this particular night ( not common, I'm told ) so I had no room. This was not a mistake this was Travelodge POLICY.
The receptionist calls the nearest travel lodge which I'm told is 10 minutes drive away though was actually 20. ( Harlow ) Apparently they have a room, not one they normally use unless it's an emergency. It's too late for any alternative arrangements so I go. Other than a few minor points compared to the earlier lodge this hotel was fine but even there I get to my room and after getting undressed settle down for a cup of coffee but discover my kettle is broken. I give up and turn the TV on to see a screen telling me which button on my remote control to press, and I have no remote control. I assume that the sign on top of the TV talking about paying £6 to watch as many films as I like must also give me access to a remote control. It turns out I should have had one but they are very low on them, but as it's explained to me I can still access regular TV manually. Too late for me did I discover this.
