Just returned from a weekend break we organised for 80 people. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Staff very helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them. Will be returning with another 80 people next year.

I visited the Palm Court last month and was very pleased with our room and the overall content of our holiday. I loved the breakfast - you can help yourself to a full English plus loads more. The staff are really friendly. Terri the Receptionist was great and helped me with a last minute doctors appointment. The price we paid was real value for money and I will be returning next year.

During our stay for a week in October 2007 we found a busy hotel being run with enthusiasm and efficiency by a young Manager and his staff. The atmosphere of "nothing being too much trouble" was prevalent and came as a surprise after reading a previous review, written in 2006, before traveling to the hotel. I can only imagine that either the management has changed or that the reviewer expected 5 star facilities in a 2 star establishment. It is not luxurious, but is comfortable, warm and clean. We enjoyed the meals in an efficiently run and busy restaurant. The lift which was criticized in an earlier review was efficient and caused very little waiting. Bathrooms had obviously been refurbished and decorated. Management was extremely polite and dealt with any problems in good spirit. We would happily spend time in this hotel again, given the present conditions.
Worst hotel I've ever seen....

Stayed here for weekend, comfortable rooms, food and service was great and they have a lovely dancefloor in the ballroom. Had very good experience and would stay again!

Having read the previous on line review I was very pleasantly surprised at the Palm Court. Met by a charming receptionist called Julie, who warmly welcomed us, our room was very clean and just what we expected from a 2 star hotel. Ok so it's Victorian but boy was it comfortable ! No complaints here. David in the bar was a hoot and a great host, we had entertainment every night and the food could not be faulted. I actually went back for seconds on the breakfast it was so good. The staff could not have been more helpful and my wife and I will definitely be back.
Do NOT stay here

Initial reception was mediocre, had to pay for rooms up front which is certainly a first for me. my room was very poor indeed, plaster flaking off the walls, furniture? I've seen better at my local recyling centre. paintwork? variety of colours, not good. floor was uneven and springy, one felt that any more weight would break through the floorboards. shower was unusable and the door hit the hand basin, toilet pedestal moved when you sat on it. floor tiles very uneven. We had 4 milks to make tea / coffee, sign on wall saying that "tea coffee etc. refreshed daily, more supplies can be obtained from reception COST coffee 10p milk 5p that again was a first for me, I think things must be pretty desperate if they need revenue that much. Breakfast was certainly fast, between 8.30 - 9.00 you are not allowed in before, it reminded me of school dinners many years ago. Would I ever stay at the Palm Court again? NO WAY, It is a Victorian building and has seen little investment since. I do however see the need for them to take your money before you see the room because they wouldn't get it afterwards.
Not that bad!

Reading the other review, this hotel sounds absolutely terrible and it really isn't that bad! Ok it's hardly the Ritz, but then again you only get what you pay for! The decor is slightly dated but the rooms are serviced daily and are clean! The staff were all friendly and the food was served quickly and efficiently! Ilfracombe is a quiet place and there isn't much to do, however I still enjoyed my stay!

I do a lot of travelling, and I would have to say this is the worst
hotel I have ever had the misfortune to stay in. I almost have too
many complaints to list, but just to pick a few highlights (or should
that be lowlights):
- I was given a single room even after requesting and paying for a
double. Sorting this out took over 45 minutes of arguing with the
reception staff.
- When I finally made it to my double room, the furniture was old and
dilapidated, and the carpet actually had a hole in it which had,
believe it or not, been sellotaped up!
- When I complained about the state of the room, the duty manager was
rude and abrasive.
- To cap everything off, when I came to check out, the lift was out of order.
I can only recomend that you avoid this dump at all costs!
