A weekend Shearings break well organised, great entertainment, bedrooms need updating, carpets especially as stained badly, but clean linen and towels daily, food a bit "hit andmiss" very cheap quality veg and potatoe dishes. Not a hotel for people with walking problems as too many stairs,Staff excellent and obliging, If offered room 313 decline as it is split level and very dark.A bit of paint around would be good.A cheap Shearings break with an excellent driver as some of the roads were scary, dont go if u dont like heeights.A lovely area tho.Would not repeat but the weather made up for the dislikes.

We stayed at the hotel on an eight day all inclusive with shearings and the holiday was brilliant the hotel let it down. The rooms were outdated and could do with a makeover as we had rattling windows and mould on bathroom walls.Restaurant food was not very good breakfast juice had no flavour and toast always cold could do with going buffet style.Evening meal were not much better. The bar was good as we had free drinks in the evening and the entertainment was excellent.Mike Terri made up for us having a good holiday even though accommodation was bad. An excellent holiday because of him . Must mention our driver Andy he was excellent.

Stayed at this hotel as part of a Shearings package. The room we were given had the wash basin in the same area as the beds resuling i a total lack of privacy. The room badly needed decorating although clean - beds uncomfortable. The food was good, entertainment good, the lift was small but practical. Reception staff could have helped more in the case of asking for a room change, didn't seem interested.

We have just returned from our 3rd holiday At The Dilkhusa. We always enjoy ourselves, the hotel position, food staff are all always excellent. We wanted to say that is was great to see a new entertainment Manager, name of Simon Cain, who is far,far superior to the last one,(name of Mike Terry) Simon is excellent,he can, sing, tell jokes and has a fantastic raport with the guests,in fact he is too good for a hotel in ILfracombe, and should be on the television/stage.Every night was thoroughly enjoyable, and we cant wait to return,to see him again.

Have recently stayed at this hotel for a short break with my parents.Enjoyed myself even though I was one of the youngest there. I have been to lots of hotels around the world, but you cant better England. Excellent waiter Martin, couldn't do enough for us. Room kept clean and tidy. All staff appear happy in their jobs, and this comes across.you need to do some thing with the Restaurant Manager as said in previous messages she is very unkept, hair not tied back, and no jacket, what does this say about back of hotel,if front staff look like this.certainly not a professional look.

Very Well Managed Hotel

Having stayed at more than one Shearings hotel I can declare this to be one of the best. Yes, internally it needs a coat of paint in places, and it's not 5-star (but you know that when you book), but it's a delight to stay here.
The staff are friendly and everything runs like clockwork. The food is better than average and entertainment 1st class (except, maybe the compere should stick to compering - rather than cabaret).
Thanks for a great week - we'll be back to this ideally-located Hotel.

Not long been back from this hote, staying on a self drive holiay. The hotel does need some TLC in places, but it is clean, tidy and well run in an excellent position on the level seafront, which suited my wife as she walks with sticks. The manager kindly arranged a basket of fruit to be in our room on arrival as we were celebrating our anniversary, this was a very nice touch. All staff very friendly, kind and helpful. The only down side was the appearance of the Restaurant Manager, she never wore a jacket, tie or make up and looked too much like her staff only scruffier, come on Shearings, tidy her up.That said we have booked again for 2010.

outdated rooms

On arrival we were surprised at the pre-hostoric lift which resembled the lift in the film titanic. Things didn't improve when we viewed our room. It was very outdated and had a sink in the bedroom and not in the bathroom!! The window was the size of a mirror, the second room we were offered was just as bad. Eventually we settled for the third room we were offered, which was of the same standard as the others, poor!! The bathroom had advacardo suite which was disgusting. I had to buy bleach and rubber gloves and clean it on my first day there. The loo brush still had some reminders of the previous guests! The mirror in the room had never seen a duster, the lampshade on the bedside lamp was peeling! The resturaunt staff were very pleasant and hard working, but understaffed, as we had to wait a long time inbetween courses! This hotel needs alot of money spending on it to bring it upto date. Would we stay here again? Not a chance. I can stay home here and clean... You have been warned.

Myself, and three friends recently stayed at the above hotel. It is only 2 star, but seems much better.Clean tidy and lovely staff. As self drives,we had the option of going on the Shearings Coach trips, which we did a couple of times,Thank you to Driver Eric. Most evenings we sat in the quiet lounge talking to new found friends. The only down side,The Restaurant desperately needs a new Manager,it needs a good shake up and a good deep clean,(my wife is a retired Hotel Manager)and wouldn't employ the lady you have. Overall a well enjoyed break.
