I was informed on enquiry that the hotel had recently undertaken a small refurbishment of the rooms. As I don't like the clinical approach of larger hotel chains, I was willing to book a room for a trial. I often work in Derby and I found this hotel quite convenient for business. The free WiFi access was very useful. The rooms are adequate and light. The staff were polite and worked hard to accommodate my requirements. There was a problem with the WiFi at one point however a quick call and an engineer was on site within a few hours. Small hotels are hard to find now and this one should fight to maintain its clientel as larger hotels are far too inpersonal! I shall be going back.

After my last review I did some checking and found the hotel has a rating of 3 stars and should offer the following: Possibly larger establishments, but all offering significantly greater quality and range of facilities and services, and usually more spacious public areas and bedrooms. Not at all A more formal style of service with a receptionist on duty and staff responding well to your needs and requests. None just go to the bar and get left there. Room service of continental breakfast. No room service. Laundry service available. Definately not!!!!! A wide selection of drinks, light lunch and snacks served in a bar or lounge. Not at all!!!!!

I was told by a friend stay here, it's ideal and reasonably priced. How wrong can you be.... The box room I was given wasn't big enough to swing a cat if you get my meaning. I was told about an extensive menu for meals in the restaurant, including a la carte dishes, but they've stopped those now no reason. Being ignored by the staff when I was trying to order food and drinks for my colleagues is also way out of order. I asked to see the owner and was told she was away on holiday not suprising at the prices they're charging for rooms, meals, and drinks. I stayed there but never will again. The locals were fine and told me of the problems they had with the place.

Expensive, Bad Service and Bad Experience

We were leaving the hostel on a Monday. The day before (Sunday morning) I went down to the bar to pay the bill. A total of 210,00 Pounds. I tried to pay with my credit card but it did not work at that time. So I went out with my rental car to look for a cash machine. Since it also did not work there I spent 10 minutes on the phone calling my bank in Spain to see what has happened, and I found out that the rental car company had overcharge my card. Ok, no problem I can also use my second card to pay the bill and since its Sunday I'll have to wait until Monday to solve the overcharge issue on my first card. But...What is my surpirse when I come back to the hotel to pay and find out a woman walking through the lobby with our (my wife & I) personal belongings, including passports, plane tickets, Ipods, and other stuff. This woman had entered into our room, picked up all our things from drawers and closets, thrown them into our bags and just left our bags in the lobby. I think this is quite unpolite & even illegal. However, she excused herself telling that she thought we had left without paying. What a professional: She had not realized we had booked one day more and worse than all: our passports and plane tickets were still in the room. I guess we won't go so far without that. Anyway, of course nobody helped us bringing back upstairs to the room our stuff, so I did it by myself. After this, and as expected, no further excuse or polite words were offered. Really sad. Once back in Spain, I send twice a fax asking for a copy of the bill. And again, and as expected no answer at all was given. I'm really sad to see that a country as Britain has this kind of unpolite professionals. A hotel in Spain charging 75 €uros per night and doing this kind of things won't last a couple of months open. You should learn a bit of education and politeness. And last but not least this hostel (its not even a hotel once you get into the rooms) is way too expensive for what it offers.
