Great for the money

from Buff_G
My Boyfriend and i booked a 1 night 14 day parking package directly with the hotel for £80.00. We arrived at about 10.30PM and spent about 10 minutes waiting to check into our room, we gave our keys over for the car and were told that we had to read the recipt to see how to pick the car up on our return from the holiday. we then booked the hotel bus for our transfer to the airport which cost us £3.00 return each.

On arrivial in our room we found it to be big enough for 3 people and it was also clean (from reading the other reviews we must have been lucky!).

As it was quite late at night and we had been travelling to get to the hotel we had not had a cahnce to have anything to eat so we thought that we would order room service. We were told that they wouldn't cook us anything but would make us a sandwhich (which cost £5.00!). Also the only vending maching from which to get sancs from was broken!

On check out the next morning we went to wait for our transfer at the front of the hotel only for the bus to arrive 15 minutes late! (The hotel is about a 10 minutes transfer to the South Terminal of Gatwick and 15 Mins transfer to the North Terminal).

On return we called the bus from the airport and had to wait half hour for it then when we arrived back at the hotel I was given my car key and told to look in the car park round the back of the hotel. my car was very dirty on collection but thankfully no damage (as some other gusts seemed to have experianced!)

All in all I would reccomend this hotel to someone if they were only going to be staying a night and need only a bed and somewhere to park their car. I do agree with everyone else however that the staff attitudes do need to be worked on as they really don't seem to know what customer services is! It's not luxuary but for the price what can you expect?!

Dirty, diabolicle, disgrace,dire, dreadful !!!!!!!

My daughter and I were advised by Thomson to use this hotel prior to flying to Crete where we were booked into a 5 star hotel. Presumaby the representative must have considered that this minus 5 hovel was adequate for my needs. We arrived and had to form a queue at 9.15pm and were told that the restaurant was closed (who in their right mind would want to eat in there anyway) and that we could park anywhere. Regretably the only space available was on the hard standing next to the bar. I handed my keys in and was told that my car maybe in a different place on my return. We then entered the room from HELL. It was filthy, the bath was filthy, the taps were filthy the toilet was filthy, the surfaces looked as if they had been cleaned with a dead cat. The sheets were clean (I think) at least there were no pubic hairs visible which cannot be said for the towels. How we did not pick up impetigo amazes me. The bed was hideous the carept filthy the windows possibly had not been cleaned since 2000 and, the furniture clearly came from a bankrupt sale. Our flight required us to leave this hovel 7am, needless to say that the transfer bus was fully booked appranently this operated on a 'first come first serves' basis. Apart form the fact there was a charge of £3 per head, niether of these two points were made clear to me by the Thomson rep - WELL DONE !. Consequently we booked a taxi which I will be reclaiming the cost from Thomson. On our retrun from our holiday they had lost my car !. One fo the inadequate and intellectually challenged employees pointed to a blue 4x4 with a totally different number plate and aksed me if that was my car. My car is silver, has a personalised number plate and logos of my company on it. It took half an hour of some assertive conversation with several of the staff to orgainise a search for my car having told them that if they did not find it then the best remedy was to call the police. They offered no apology in any shape for form, they were rude and surly. My advise to anyone is - take a tent and avoid this place like the plague !.

Utter chaos

A complete shambles. We had no idea what to do when we got there as there were cars everywhere. One receptionist told me to park the car and then check in, so my partner parked (not an easy task) while I waited at reception. I then heard a different receptionist tell another couple of leave the car outside and they would park it for them.
The hotel was really shabby and amazingly there was no lift, even though the majority of guests are probably there with a large suitcase which they are taking on holiday. We were however able to leave the case in reception which was useful.
Our flight was at 7am but there wasn't a bus that could take us at 4.30am so we had to leave at 4am. Another couple we spoke to said there were no convenient time slots for their flight so they ended up having to pay for a taxi to get themselves to the airport.
Coming home was the worst though. There's a free phone at the airport so I called and gave my name and the number in our party and was told a bus would be there in about 30 mins. We ended up waiting over an hour as 3 buses came, filled up and went. The drivers weren't asking for names or how long people had been waiting, so it was the pushiest and most vocal who got on first, irrespective of how long they had been waiting!
Needless to say, we won't be staying there again....

Clean Sheets, but nothing else

from Fodamage
For me, room cleanliness is my most important criteria. This hotel did not meet it. Dirty carpets, candy wrappers on the floor, hair in the tub. Yuck! At least the sheets were clean. There were three of us for a $160 3-person room. After paying 16 pounds for the after hours taxi, then 3 pounds each for the morning shuttle back to Gatwick (I had assumed the shuttle would be free - most US hotel shuttles are), we were pretty close to what it would have cost for the Sofitel in the Airport.

Dreadful experiance - avoid at all costs!!!!

This hotel is an absolute disgrace - no wonder it has just lost it's 'Best Western' status. All I can say is that the only way this place must make money is by charging for airport parking - there are cars everywhere, and I mean EVERYWHERE. It seems the main objective to cram as many vehicles as possible onto the campus. We even had to look at cars parked bumber to bumper IN the beer garden!!

If you are planning to leave your car here whilst on holiday BEWARE!!! In addition to the cars being parked absolutely everywhere, they are also parked in very dangerous and unsafe areas. Examples include right along the top of a very steep bank (visable from my room), along BOTH sides of their SERVICE road (where vans and lorries regularly drive leaving a narrow gap for them - not supprising that I over heard a fellow guest in reception complaining that his car had been damaged), along the fire exits of a near by health club and stable yard and, you get the idea..

In brief - this hotel is run by a bunch of incompitence all round. No care is taken with cars. When you check in, you may be given the impression that your car will be parked in their car park but where it actually ends up is another matter..

Unfortunately I can't find a good word to say about this place - rubbish all around the back of the hotel (where guests have access to), food is rubbish, staff don't care and are rude and the rooms are dirty with ancient beds - there was more spring in the floor, which, was where we ended up sleeping!

AVOID!!!!!

My car was damaged

from RowleyBoy
Although the hotel was pretty much ok, my car was damaged while it was in their 'care'.

I had purchased a parking package whereby the car was left at the hotel for two weeks while I was on holiday; I wish I hadn't!

The damage was quite serious affecting 3 body panels. Due to the locations of the damage, I believe it could only have been caused while the vehicle was in motion. The only people who would have driven the vehicle would have been agents or employees of the hotel.

The general manager was difficult to contact and when eventually I spoke to him, he was polite, but dismissive of my view that his staff caused the damage. Hence, the hotel denied liability for the repair.

Maybe I was unlucky - I would not stay there again though.

poor hotel even though very cheap to stay

from A TripAdvisor Member
we found the room okay. It was very basic but that was fine for the money we paid. However we were based above a room where a wedding reception was being held which went on until 1am and we had to get up at 4am, amazingly our 8 mth daugther slept through the whole thing but we barely slept. We were very surprised that a hotel that is based near the airport would host a wedding when many people stay there in view of getting more sleep before their airline journey.

The pick up arrangements were a joke, we called for the bus and were told to wait. Other people were also waiting and so consequently there was a mad scramble for the bus which meant fellow passengers became rude and unhelpful. There should be a system of name taking not just a mad scramble.

The hotel staff seem incompetent and it seemed very disorganised.

Next time we need to stay in a hotel before flying we will pay more as we paid little for this compared to other hotels and this was reflected in the service we recieved.

The menu out of date

from A TripAdvisor Member
i was very unhappy with the menu

is this place the Fawlty Towers Management College?

from Zadok99
I hated everything about this place exept for maybe the breakfast and that is only perhaps because I was looking for a positive.

We arrived late having waited for at least an hour for the bus that 'will be along in a few minutes'. The reception was full of staff who were not interested in serving us. We were told repeatedly that someone would be with us shortly. It took my travel partner to crash her head on the reception desk in frustration before somebody decided to serve us. This guy must have been a trainee on day one. They had a record of our reservation but could not find the necessary form. This invloved a 10 minute search through several filing systems. he couldn't then work out how to allocate us two rooms for one night instead of one room for two nights.

After much frustration we eventually got two rooms for one night but it eventuated that we were what seemed like several miles apart. My room was dirty. The walls and carpets were stained. What appeared to be strawberry jam was smeared in a large dry blob on the wall in plain view.

The bed would not fit between the built in bedside tabel so it sat out into the room and I lost the pillow down the gap all night. The bed itself had seen service for long enough to qualify for long service leave and no matter what position I adopted it seemed there was a constant lump under my hip.

Calling this an airport hotel is also a bit cheeky as it is by no means close to gatwick. You have to either get a cab or catch the shuttle bus. The bus was free to the hotel but was £3 to get back to the airport.

The breakfast was the highlight in a very poor experience.

I would rather sleep on a bench at Gatwick airport than stay here again.

Friendly welcome
