Fab alternativce to staying at the airport or in Crawley

from A TripAdvisor Member
Arrived quite late had a quick and easy check in but got a lovely room overlooking the grounds. What a nice alternative to being at the airport or staying in Crawley. Good food through room service after a quick drink in the Sports Bar with the World cup. The best nights sleep I've had out of my own bed for a LONG time..

Unreliable car parking

from Rosemary21
Although we arrived initially at the wrong Copthorne ( no-one said there was 2!), we found our way to a tired and out-dated hotel.
We stayed for 1 night and used the car parking arrangements, only to arive home to find, on moving our vehichle someone had bumped both front and rear bumper on a wall !!
We will never use the hotel again.

Great service, relaxing stay

from jaldrick
My partner and I stayed at the Copthorne Effingham Park for a long weekend a couple of weeks ago and found it to be an extremely pleasant experience. My partner has recently been suffering some health problems and I thought that the location of the hotel with it's countryside setting and golf facilities would be the perfect place for a get away and I was not disappointed. Fantastic facilties, including the health centre, very well catered restaurant and friendly staff all counted towards a very easy, restful stay. The rooms were clean and comfortable, I requested extra pillows and they arrived within 5 minutes - service was always super speedy!! I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a long weekend away where they do not wish to go offsite. Very good value.

Perfect start to Christmas

from Emsy90
My partner and I booked a night here due to an early flight to the inlaws for Christmas. We've stayed at Effingham Park a few times over the past year and have always found the service consistant, regardless of who is on duty.

Our room was welcoming, clean and comfortable. There are particular things I always look for when staying in a hotel. Towels should be big, soft and really white, the bathroom should be immaculate and fittings should be highly polished and the room should be of a comfortable temperature and smell nice. Effingham Park scores highly in attention to detail.

I had to post a small last minute Christmas present and the receptionist helped me by providing tape to seal the package and posting it for me.

We attended a function in the large banqueting suite that night. The service and food were both of excellent quality. The staff were so well organised you barely noticed them as they serviced the tables.

Breakfast the next morning was its usual high standard with a good choice and a plentiful supply despite it being near to the end of service.

It was the perfect start to our Christmas break. The staff are friendly, the facilities, despite being a little dated are varied and always available and it's nice to know I'll have the same experience each time I go there. Effingham Park has always provided exceptional value for money and I will continue to return in future. It would seem silly to waste my money elsewhere.

Watch out for credit fraud

from Valcaff
We had a lovely stay at the Effingham Park hotel, really nice leisure facilities, 9 hole golf course, superb service and good food, unfortunately on returning from our holiday, it was noticed that my credit card had been cloned whilst staying at the hotel. We spoke to the Manager and the police. We can only pinpoint it to when I used the swimming pool and you have to give your key card for the room, and write your name and room number in the book, for the attendant to give you a locker key. That was the only time we let the key card out of our possession and of course the attendant could be working a scam as he would be able to advise an assailant when you weren't in your room!!! and he would know when you were heading back that. We told the police our suspicions and they said there wasn't enough information to take it any further. This was in October last year, we have just had a phone call from the police to say there have been 20 other cases of credit card problems linked to the hotel. I had not used the credit cards at the hotel or at Gatwick Airport, they did not take the cards, just the numbers off the cards out of my purse, which was left in my bag in the hotel room. Just writing this to make you all very aware and to be VERY VERY CAREFUL

tired but ok

from megaboff
I stayed here for one night with my partner for a work conference.

Check-in was efficient & polite.

The room was nice & large but very tired-looking with stains on the carpet & on the side table. The room had all of the accessories such as steam press, tea & coffee-making facilities & internet availability. There were also enough hangers in the wardrobe as these are often missing. It was nice & quiet, too. Although we weren't there to watch TV the reception was pretty poor & therefore the picture was quite fuzzy.

The bathroom was clean & well-appointed with complimentary toiletries. Hopwever, the worst thing about the whole stay was the shower. It was a dreadfully meagre flow & I couldn't adjust the temperature so it was barely tolerable.

The breakfast was plentiful (buffet-style) - even at 9.30am which was half an hour before the breakfast ended. The quality wasn't bad either. The waitresses were a bit inattentive & we had to ask for tea/coffee & toast rather than them being proactive & asking us as they should. I felt like we were a bit of an inconvenience!

In short, a hotel in need of a bit of an update & some money spent on it. I get the impression it was quite lovely in the early 1980's!

A pleasant enough stopover

from HylB
We spent one night at the Copthorne Effingham Park and were largely satisfied with the offering, particularly considering the proximity to LGW. The room was a good size, well-presented and clean. Unfortunately the cot we had booked was not in the room when we arrived, but this situation was quickly remedied.

We booked a taxi to take us out for the evening and it arrived on time, although we were not informed of it's arrival and it seemed the staff on reception were unable to give the taxi driver any information regarding the booking! (The driver then spent most of the trip complaining that this was often the case with this hotel, that the organisation was terrible and people often ended up with two taxis, or worse, none)

Breakfast was not up to the standard you would expect from this class of hotel and it was difficult to attract the attention of the staff. The lack of porters also concerned me - we did not have much luggage, but with a pram as well negotiating doors was a little tricky.

On the whole, I think I would have been more disappointed if it weren't for the area this hotel is located in.

great room, cold shower

from A TripAdvisor Member
After booking this room and then reading some mixed reviews I was a little skeptical about what to expect. Well my husband and I were quite pleased with this hotel and the room overall.
We arrived after a long train ride and bus from Switzerland and were really in a nasty mood being very tired and hungry...well after a simple check in we arrive to our room, opened the door and JUMPED FOR JOY...the room was HUGE, the bed was comfortable and the bath room clean. The only 2 problems we had with this room were 1) the shower went cold after a few minutes and never heated up again, 2) the TV kept turning off on it's own for some unknown reason
The staff in the buffet restaurant were very nice and friendly. The food was delicious and the meal worth the $$ as we were able to go up to the buffet as many times as we wanted.
We requested a wake up call at 7:30 am. We received a wake up call at 7:25 then another one at 7:30 to ensure we were up. The shuttle bus we ordered came on time and we were off.
BOTTOM line is we would recommend this hotel and we would stay here again given the chance.

Tired and Tatty - Spot on

from DeepFish
Basically a sprawling average hotel with few redeeming features. Rooms were worn to the point of being quite tatty, and we were glad not to be spending more than a night there.

On the plus side parking was OK, and the view of the golf course was nice as well. Biggest suprise was the bed which looked very well worn, but actually one of the best nights sleep i have had for a while.

Probably not much different from other Gatwick hotels. But it would be worth trying others if they were available!

Great Package, nice people

from A TripAdvisor Member
Having seen previous reviews which varied from appalling to fantastic in equal measure, it was with some trepidation that we booked a one night stay with 15 days parking (where we could leave our car when flying out of Gatwick).
The room was large, clean and well equipped and as the hotel had a parkland setting, it did not suffer from the noise of passing traffic. Although we did not use all of the hotel's many facilities, the swimming pool , grounds and public rooms all looked to be of a good quality.
We ate in the 'sports bar' and were impressed with the bar meal and prices.
Contrary to what others have said, the staff were all polite and helpful (including the driver of the free shuttle bus to/from the airport) - maybe the other reviewers don't believe in treating others the way they want to be treated themselves !
When we returned to the hotel after our trip, the car had been moved to a safe location behind the hotel.
All in all, an ideal location for a stopover hotel prior to flying from Gatwick and at a price which represented remarkably good value compared to others at which we have stayed.

Top Local Tips for Crawley

Gatwick Express Once at Gatwick Airport from the hotel and needing to get to Victoria Station to enjoy the convenience of the underground to get around London; although the Gatwick Express is a bit more money, it is well worth it to take over the other rail service. It's fast and frequent and you don't have to get your tickets until your on the train.
