Well, The staff have changed and it seems the chefs have also. Previously, there was a professional head waiter who made the experience top-notch, but now the staff, although friendly enough, provided service not dissimilar from that expected at a "little chef" and not that of a four-star hotel. Secondly, the menu. On our last visit it was very well laid out and consisted of a selection of well thought-out, exciting dishes, but now, it is reminiscent of something you would expect from your local J D Weatherspoons. Dishes included, fish and chips, beef curry, Sausage and mash, blah blah blah.
I went for the fillet steak, which on the menu was spelt incorrectly as "filet", and due to it being advertised for two, I requested if I could have if for one. To cut a long story short, it was burned and I was charged the full price for two people. (Although, I did receive the single portion that I had asked for!) Upon questioning this, I was given some poor excuse and paid the full amount just to be on my way. Jo's starter of prawn cocktail, looked like it had been "knocked-up" with what they had found lying about the floor of the kitchen. But, worst of all, the small frozen prawns were not fresh enough and as a result had a very definite "fishy" taste. Needless to say, she left them. My tomato soup was very nice although, I could have done with some bread for it. on a brighter note, Jo's lamb shank was good.
The wine came in a bucket of tepid water and not ice. Everything was very overpriced for the "pub grub" we received.
Overall, I very big thumbs down... from out memorable visit two years ago, this was a bitter disappointment. If you fancy trying this place, why not go to the local "beefeater" chain instead, afterwards, go outside and set fire to £100. At least you will have something memorable.
