Fantastic

What a stunning place. I have just stayed in one of the fantastic new cottages at this hotel. We had a amazing view of this great setting. I loved the dog friendly nature of this hotel even though i didn't have mine with me( i will next time). The staff were very friendly and professional at all times and made our stay great. The food was lovely and i recommend a pop into breakfast as it was great to. Thank you to all the staff we will definatley be back.
not great

This hotel has the capacity to be something special, its location is fantastic and it is quite a piece of architecture.
However we were dissapointed generally with the size and decor of our room, and the food was pretty uninspired. The pool is tiny and the service varied from average to poor, there seemed to be an abundance of supervisors but no regular staff.
At times it felt like we (the paying guests) should be gratefull to be in the place. They even post notices dictating the behaviour expected from the "guests".
All in all not very good value, I cant understand all the previous good reviews, in general we are not particularly fussy people but the headland did not live up to our expectations at all.

Cornwall at its best

We held our wedding reception at the Headland Hotel, what a stunning setting. The hotel staff were exceptional, attentive without being too imposing. We have continued to visit, for storm watching weekends and are regular visitors for the sunday lunch! If you are coming to Cornwall you should stay here, it very much deserves its 4 star status.
maria in the brassiere is wonderful and Gareth the sommelier is knowledgeable and very friendly.
The rooms are extremely comfortable and the views are amazing.

My husband and I have just returned from a weekend break at this lovely hotel, our 4th visit.
Since our last visit in March 2005, all the Headland rooms have been refurbished to a very high standard We had a lovely big room with a wonderful sea view, even when sitting in bed!!
The food was as usual wonderful, good choice, well cooked and beautifully presented. Staff friendly and very helpful without being overbearing.
Relaxed and homely atmosphere throughout with first class service, what more can you ask for? We will certainly be going back again!!

We stayed here for 6 nights, on a DBB rate. We paid extra for a select room and had great views. I don't normally leave a tip, but I did here. The food was excellent. The staff had a team approach and their friendliness and service was outstanding. Well recommended.
They really do care about their guests

I stayed at this hotel for a few days in July, and since reading some of the other reviews on this site, am amazed at various things. We had a small complaint regarding the food service in their brasserie - it took a bit of a while in coming, but was excellent when it arrived. We mentioned this on our comment slip, as well as a comment regarding the fact that not all the bar staff were very compentant at making cocktails. Within a few days of going home, the owner of the hotel phoned me to talk about my comments, and to hear my suggestions - I was amazed! I thought that hotels dont really pay any attention to guests comments - obviously I am wrong in assuming this when it comes to the headland.
I suggest that maybe the people who wrote saying that the management of the headland doesnt care about its guests/doesnt respond to feedback may be thinking of a different hotel, or are stretching the truth a little!
This place is wonderful - we shall definately be returning for a storm watching break (I think that is what it is called!) in the next few months.

We returned to the Headland for August bank holiday, after previously staying there in may and I will definetely return as soon as possible. My parents visit regularly and I can highly reccomend it. I stay away in expensive souless hotels for work and it is so refreshing staying here , the view alone is stunning ,and the hotel has (in my opinion!) a charming relaxed atmosphere. The fixtures and fittings in some of the bedrooms may not be cutting edge ,but they are clean and comfortable, and i would reccomend paying extra for a sea view . The food is lovely , and you can take your dogs if they are well behaved! and make the most of the long walks around the coastline. This is a real gem to visit and recharge your batteries.
4 Star Hotel, 4 Star Prices

I have to say this is probably my 2nd stay at the Headland but it just seems to be getting more and more expensive each time. The hotel is nice but there is with some larger hotels no real atmosphere. The staff are all polite etc but there just lacks that something extra you'd expect. Some rooms for £100+ per night are small and have a limited see view. Expect to pay a lot more for better views. All in all some what disapointed and will stay in a smaller firendlier hotel in the future.
What a relief!

We transferred to the Headland from the Watermark at Porth Beach this weekend (see my seperate review for the Watermark and don't touch it with a bargepole!).
The reception staff were really friendly and welcoming. They were aware of our arrival (having booked the room 10 minutes previously) and aware that we had had problems at their competitor. They even went so far as to check that we had had our breakfast.
We arrived at our room which was on the third floor with ocean view. The room was large and comfortable. I would say that it was looking a little tired but am aware that the hotel is undergoing rennovations at the moment. It was clean and comfortable with crisp linen, fluffy towels and robes. It was not the most amazing room I've ever been in but it was more then adequate for our needs. The view *was* amazing!
We had a wonderful afternoon using the outdoor swimming pool and having a drink and lunch on the terrace. The Bistrol serves lovely food and itself is very smart having clearly been updated recently.
We ate our evening meal there too having wonderful dishes which were beautifully presented and tasted just great! A welcome change after our disastrous visit to the Watermark. Lovely wine list. Excellent attentive service.
Breakfast in the dining room the next day was also great with possibly the most extensive range of breakfast dishes I have come across in any hotel.
All in all a great, relaxing break in an old hotel which is trying to bring itself up to date. I believe that there are plans to build a modern spa/health club in the basement which will really add to its appeal.
We will definitely be returning to the Headland and taking our two children with us.
