Simply Dreadful

I notice that the last review was in February 2008 and so it looks like things have gone down hill since then. The only reason that I have awarded a "2" marking was for the duvet, the complementary mineral water and mint imperials. We hired three chalets and each chalet smelled like it hadn't been used or aired for an aeon. In chalet number 2 the air was decidedly foul. The checkout time of 10.00am on a Sunday was outrageous. As our train from Morpeth was at 12.40 we asked if we could possibly have a later checkout. The extremely rude person who was the house keeper stated "no!" because people check in at mid-day -what on a Sunday? The owner/manager then suggested we could all sit in one chalet or the corner of the bar. Instead we organised a taxi to get out of there asap on Sunday morning. Then there's the payment policy, all money up front 4 months in advance. In each room the soap allocation was 1 pathetic 2" bar of soap to share between 2 people (there was a bottle of bubble bath as well). The heating came on 5 hours after we checked in and so the rooms were freezing. A £50 deposit for each key was required. There were surcharges for every form of breakfast with the exception of a piece of toast and tea. Additionally, you are asked to confirm if you wish to have a cooked breakfast the night before. We had the (dis)pleasure of seeing the house keeping person on Sunday morning there was no good morning, no acknowledgement, nothing. The Swan web site says "Passionate about a warm welcome" - I hate to think what they consider a cold welcome to be?!

I have used this hotel a number of times as each time I am greeted warmly and find the rooms to be clean and excellent value for money. The food is good and once again you get value for money. Whilst not exactly in the centre of things, you are not out in the middle of nowhere. I find it very convenient for my business trips to the area.

Great food, heating problem has been addressed. Standard of accommodation now good, and being improved to be even better, lets hope the price is not upgraded to far. Would recommend.

The food and service was good, the desert in particular wonderful. However I would strongly recommend that people DO NOT use the accomodation. During the coldest part of the winter, the heating was off for most of the day and night (only on from 4-8), and there was not enough hot water to serve 6 rooms at 5pm! Upon complaint, manager refused to turn the heating on, made up story about how 4*/5* hotels don't leave the heating on at night etc... Very unprofessional, which was a shame considering, it's a nice little pub and in a quaint little village. Highly NOT recommended.
