I recently stayed at your hotel with a large group of 16 girls. I was very dissapiontied when i stayed. I work in hotels and have done all areas of a hotel. As soon as we walked into the hotel we did not get told where our rooms were. we had to wait about half an hour for service on the bar, and then most of the time we got short changed. Then there was a fire alarm and nobody rang the room or knocked on the doors of the room to let anybody know what was goin on then when we we were goin in the hotel we did not get told what had happened.

Perfect Conference Venue

from A TripAdvisor Member
I attended a conference and would like to say it was fantasic. The meeting room standards were very good, and the restaurant served fantasic food. I really enjoyed relaxing in the lesiure facilities at the end of a hard day.

Never a 4 star

from stawberrymilkshake
Upon arrival the hotel had no knowledge of my booking for a family room (made via Expedia and I had the proof with me) The receptionist was very helpful but only able to put my 14 year old son in a room on his own (room 6 bad smell in the room)and my wife and I across the stairs in a double room. We had baguettes in the leisure club bar, waited 45 minutes for them and when we asked where they were the chef´s response to the barstaff which she passed on to us was "I´m on my own and they´ll be ready when they´re ready" As this was at 4pm I would be surprised if they were busy. We checked with staff to confirm the age limit for children in the pool after 6pm, were told 14 and then refused entry to the pool by a jobsworth receptionist at 7.30, (computer says no) despite the pool being empty because she insisted the limit was 15 years. The hotel was "tired" looking and nearer a 2 star than a 4. I won´t be returning!

Avoid staying at all costs

from Compo2
This hotel isn`t worthy of me wasting anymore of my time and breath but, if this review prevents another couple/person having a similar dreadful experience then .......
How it can belong to the Best Western chain I have no idea and it certainly isn`t worthy of ONE star!!
We stayed here on a pre-christmas break in 2005.
Every single thing was too awful to think about again.
Avoid staying at all costs!!!!

does not deserve rating of 4*

from A TripAdvisor Member
after seeing the pictures on their website, my husband and I thought we would grab a night away to relax and unwind.
On arrival at the hotel, we were shocked at the appearance of the hotel, looks something between a travellodge and a working mans club!
There was an extension built to the hotel and behind it you could see what looked like the photos!
The receptionist wasnr friendly, and the rooms very shabby. this hotel doesnt deserve a 4* rating what so ever.

The bed was very uncomfortable and the walls are so thin you can hear everything that people in the room next door are doing.

Breakfast was poor.

the only good point about this hotel was the friendly staff in the gym and pool area, but would expect better from hotel staff.

On checking out we asked for head office address and the same receptionist didnt even bother to ask why we required it.

Definetely will not be staying here, and surprised they charge £131 for a double!!

Ok, but why 4* ?

I've stayed at this hotel on a number of occassions on account of a contract my company has with the chain. However, I remain underwhelmed by it on the whole. I accept that the staff are generally friendly, particularly one of the bar managers, however, the biggest gripe I have is that it takes so long to get served any sort of food. I've tried eating in the restaurant (I gave up when I found out 30 minutes after I ordered and a further 20 minutes after I presented myself to the restaurant, when I was then told that my choice wasn't available, and opted for the bar menu instead) and also the sports bar (35 minutes for a pasta dish of the day on two successive nights!) and remain unimpressed by how inefficient they are.

The rooms are basic, although clean and tidy. However, the facilities are at odds with a 4 star hotel. However, the sports club is one of the best I've experienced in a hotel, and probably the only reason I've returned.

Given that they're competing with so many hotels from the city centre, I'd have thought that they'd offer something better than this to compensate for the 3 mile trip into town. However, this is chain hotel blandness at its worst.

s sleep

Can I start by saying if they offer you Room 7 don't accept it! It must be the worst room they have got! Unfortunately for us we checked in early and were unable to view the room before leaving for the races. When we got back to our room the view of a brick wall should have told us everything but because we were tired we just flaked out until 12.00 a.m. that is! Little did we realise that the room was above the kitchen and hence the noise was abismal. After a phonecall and a visit to reception we were finally moved to another room. Rooms are cheaply furnished for a 4*, beds hard and in need of an update. The communal areas of the hotel seemed ok, breakfast good, along with the leisure facilities. If you do stay here make sure you ask for a garden view! Definitely not worthy of £120 a night!

A Great Break

from Alison012
We recently spent 2 nights at this hotel with our two young children in a fantastic family room. The "room" had a separate bedroom for the children, accessed from the main room. It had been recently refurbished and was very smart and clean.
Food in the hotel was good and reasonably priced, although wine was rather expensive. The leisure suite was good and the pool sub -divided to create safe areas for toddlers and new swimmers, although the ladies changing area could do with an update.
Staff were pleasant and the children were made very welcome.
We will definitely return.

Enjoyable Break

from Bigpants1
Stayed here for 2 nights in Feb for a leisure break. Really enjoyed our stay. Hotel is handy for getting into Chester (only £4 in a taxi). Our room was small but lovely and bright overlooking the gardens. The leisure club was very good. Breakfast on the Sunday morning was great with a huge selection however not so good on the Monday! Overall this was a nice, comfortable hotel but I am unsure why the 4 star rating!

Good for leisure break but not for the business traveller...

from Zana711
I got a Family Room (comes with two kids' bunk beds) while I paid for an Executive Double and hence no work desk. Good leisure facilities with a good size pool and gym with good range of cardio equipment. Restaurant food was ok but with extremely slow service. Hotel has weird layout and no lift - getting to my room involved one big staircase, twists and turns along narrow corridors with steps up and down along the way.

Best suited for leisure breaks - weird layout may even be conducive to Murder Mystery weekends!!

Not exactly 4 star

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I, together with our 2 children (4 and 18 months) have just returned from a long weekend in Chester. We had picked the hotel as they have a baby listening service and can arrange for a babysitter. We found that our family room was cheaply furnished and not to the standard that one would expect from a four-star hotel. Also, we had to climb two flights of stairs, one very steep, in order to get to the family room. Despite accomodating only a small number of guests on the second night, the hotel ran out of bacon the following morning. Notwithstanding the difficulties, we found the staff to be pleasant and helpful and the pool/fitness centre excellent.

Top Local Tips for Chester

TAPAS and COCKTAILS When in Chester be sure to try La Tasca for superb tapas and Bar Fiesta Havana for excellent cocktails...

parking Chester is quite expensive, especially for parking, we found that parking in tesco multistory was the best and then if you spent a few quid in the shop you get a discount or even free parking. Dont go to the zoo when its school holidays the place is just awful, with massive queues for everything.

Watch out for Chester Races weekend! If you're planning to stay in Chester over the summer, then check out via Google when Chester Races are being held, because you will have to book waaaay in advance to get a hotel that weekend. We were attending a wedding on Race Weekend, and family rooms were booked up about 6 months in advance.
