My husband and I thought the staff were outstandingly friendly and helpful. Our comfort was obviously paramount to them, and our four poster room was delightful. All in all, it was an excellent experience.

£185 it cost for myself and my partner to stay at the Thanington for 2 nights. I could have got more quality and peace and quiet in a travel lodge for £30 per night.

The 'hotel' is in serious need of decorating.

They call it a hotel, but really it's nothing more than a B&B at the most.

Staff that should be in reception are busy in the 'bar' area talking to the manager who clearly does not care about his or his staff's appearance.

I don't know what the floors are made of, but you could hear a pin drop no matter what room it was in.

The dining area was cold, and they're still using the cuttlery that was bought when the 'hotel' was decorated.

If you're planning on driving for the car parking spaces, don't. They have 20 odd rooms, but only 5 or 6 car parking spaces.

To summarise, it's like a big house, it even has a living room. You can see the kitchen when you're in the dining area. It's suitable for the 65+ market, but if you're any younger, don't bother you're wasting a lot of money on poor quality.

Top Local Tips for Canterbury

Dining old English style (Pub) & various other foods. Plenty of quality eateries in & around the City. Excellent Old English Inns, good beer, food & entertainment. Also very cosmopolitan.

River Boat Tour Really lovely 40 minute boat ride with a tour guide that tells you the histiry of many of the oldest buildings in Canterbury. Very informative and interesting and well as being amusing due to the sense of humour of the tour guides.Little Italy is an Italian restaurant near where the boat goes from and the food was amazing. I would recommend this for anyone for a romantic meal.

No need If you are visiting Canterbury only, everything is walking distance.
