What is so grand about this hotel?

here are a few words to describe our stay at The Grand: Carpark old, akward to park & expensive to park, Dirty room, old, small , crampt,mouldy bathroom,broken amenities, very poor customer service, over expensive food & drinks, old trays left in hallways from room -service for over 12 hours, to access the lesuire facilities you have to walk outside & then across the carpark entrance into a side door then down to an open changing room where the door when opened is where the reception are there is small pool,gym & broken jucuzzi,the steam & sauna room hold only 2-3 people, broken shower & overlooked by the gym thankfully that was empty.
We emailed the hotel to complain & they responded 3 weeks later - how thoughtful??! and offered us a deluxe double room for £50.00 as an apology - no thank you.

**The Bristol hotel (jurys hotel) highly recomended thats where we will stay again**

Worst hotel experience I have had in years

Had a 2 night stay which I can only say was the worst I have had in years the room was filthy and grubby some of the staff were quit helpful but other were very unhelpful very much over priced for what we got.

Leisure facilities were excellent as was the breakfast. Only thing that let the hotel down was the fact we had asked for a smoking room as my partner was a smoker at the time. This however did not mean we wanted a room that stunk to high heaven of cigarette smoke. We were so digested we nearly checked out in the middle of the night.

I stayed at the hotel for two nights and attended a conference based in the hotel. The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful but were fighting against the odds. The rooms are very shabby and the hotel interior cavernous and soulless. The public areas are badly designed and need new furniture.

Worst of all was the intense heat generated in the rooms without air con (more than half). I wasn't alone in having to sleep with windows open and two electric fans on full blast. Even then it was very hot and the weather outside was cool for the time of year.

Avoid.

Me and my boyfriend stayed at the Thistle Bristol for 1 night on the 22.06.06. We arrived quite late as we were going to stay at the ibis but were very dissapointed with the service and room at the Ibis so we cancelled this hotel and stayed at the Thistle instead.

Upon arriving at the Thistle we checked in and the service at reception was good, we went to our room and we were very happy with the room clean, nice decor, comfy bed, and although the room was small we found this quite cosy.

The only negative thing i would say is that although there is a nice ceiling fan i found the room very warm during the night.

Breakfast was great and the waitress service was very friendly it was a buffet and we enjoyed the variety of food. We also made use of the swimming pool, sauna and steam room and we really enjoyed this it was very relaxing.

We really enjoyed the Thistle Bristol and would stay here again.

My wife and I arrived in Bristol a bit later than we would have liked after a very busy day at the point that we were looking for the hotel were running very short of fuel, the staff of the hotel were not very helpful in the evening on pointing out a close petrol station, luckily sunday morning one member of the staff showed a positive side and was helpful. garaging was expensive in veiw of the hotel cost and state,shabby carpeting and no air con on 2nd floor, breakfast also at extra cost. I have to go to Bristol again soon and will find an alternative accommodation.

Great stay at the Thistle

Stayed at Thistle Bristol for a 2 night weekend break with friends. The hotel was chosen by one of my friends and after reading the reviews on here I thought he'd made a very bad choice and I was having second thoughts about our stay.

We arrived expecting the worst and seeing the outside of the building worried us further, but when we entered the reception area we found it to be clean and very nicely decorated. We received a walm welcome from the reception staff, checked in, and headed to our rooms 128 & 129 both standard twins. The rooms impressed us further, although they weren't massive they were very clean and well looked after. The beds were comfortable and although there was no air conditioning the temperature of the room was never too hot or cold. There was a slight stain on the wall but that was the only bad thing we could find!

Breakfast was excellent, it was buffet style and has lots of choice from hot items to fruit, pastries and cereals, and the service was good and friendly with tea, coffee and toast served to you.

The hotel is situated in a great spot for looking around Bristol. It's about halfway between the main shopping area and the waterfront area with it's bars, restaurants, theatre & imax cinema.

The only negative points we could find were:-
- Room looked out onto a roof and at a brick wall, but saying this it made it very quiet.
- Car park is quite an experience to navigate (tight multi-story) and costs £7.50 per night.
- Hotel bar was very expensive! Best to avoid (like most hotel bars!)

Overall we had a great stay and would definitely go back.

The room was not nice at all. Very small, and like others have already said, NOT clean. The bed was so uncomfortable, between that and the noise it was impossible to sleep through the night. I absolutely would not recommend this and will never stay again myself. I stayed in Jurys last week and it was MUCH nicer. No contest between the two. I would not waste my money at the Thistle ever again. Don't let the pictures online fool you.

Booked for 2 nights but only stayed 1. The only cover on the mattress was a thin sheet. Our room was a superior double so we had 2 single beds pushed together. The sheet was no barrier to the lumps and bumps of the mattresses. It wasn't big enough to tuck in properly either so I found myself in direct contact with the mattress whenever I woke up in the night. UNCOMFORTABLE and UNHYGIENIC! The sound proofing was negligible. The bathroom door was warped so it was very difficult to open and close. Our children were staying in two separate rooms and there were obvious signs of the rooms not being cleaned properly eg in one room a drawer full of the previous occupant's clothes. Yes, and they only had one sheet on their mattresses too. I repeat: NEVER AGAIN.

The worst hotel in Bristol (First impressions are deceiving)

I had heard good things about Thistle hotels and was very disappointed when I stayed here for a night. First impressions were good, the front office staff were very friendly and the looby seemed nice. The main problem was the room. The room was small, had a 1/4 of a window, it was dusty, and not well kept. I have stayed at the Ramada and the Jury's and the rooms were much better. Although the location is pretty central and the breakfast was good, I would not recommend this hotel. The beds were terrible and the rooms awful.

Good 3 * Hotel

My partner and I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in January this year.

First impressions were good, the reception staff were friendly and helpful. As our room was not ready we were offered complimentary drinks in reception.

We were offered a room upgrade for £10 per night which we agreed to. This meant we stayed in a executive deluxe room which was anything but deluxe but was acceptable.

Our board basis was dinner, bed and breakfast. However due to the restaurant having alterations done to it the only thing we could be offered was room service. The menu was ok but nothing like what should be offered for an evening meal. We had what you could only describe as a poor pub lunch!

One excellent feature (although not on site) was the leisure facilities. Just a short walk across the street was a fully equipped gym, pool, sauna, steam and jacuzzi. Staff were extremely helpful and on hand to answer any queries we had.

All in all a satisfactory stay, hotel could be spruced up as looking a little tired.

If going to Bristol again we would consider staying here.

A very comfortable hotel. Great location. The rooms we had were lovely. Superior Double with a canopy over the bed. Very clean & bright. Staff very pleasant. Seem to have had a totally different experience to other people! I would say that it's worth giving this hotel the benefit of the doubt.

Stayed in the Bristol Thistle for two nights, location was great, room very dark and shabby as was the rest of the hotel, the carpets were thread bare in places. The staff were pleasant, but seemed unable to confirm my booking and to which meals we were entitled, although this was clearly stated on the inter- net booking form which I showed them. Night-mare in the dinning room, people had collected their food from the buffet and found that there was no where to sit and eat it. Would only return for the location.

The Cathay Rendezvous This is on Kings Road and i in a very nice part of town. The food is amazing and the service is amazingly quick. There are photos of famous people meeting the manager covering all the walls. It does make you feel like your eating in a dazzling place. Utterley reccomend it.
